Love it!
Written by EM from Kirkland

I went through several monitors before I landed here; including 30" ACD, and Dell 2707 WFP. I liked the 30 ACD but found it difficult to sit in front of it due to its size. When I sat back further it was hard to read text. The Dell was a solid monitor but a little fuzzy due to it's large dot pitch.
I was concerned about the glossy display. It has turned out to be a non issue producing sharp, brilliant images. As trivial as it is, it's nice to have the USB hub, notebook power and AV connection in 3 easy plugs.
I still think Apple should step off the proprietary wagon with the mini display port. It's great to have it but how about including HDMI & DVI too.
At the end of the day, it's the best image in the tightest package as long as you can connect it. For me image was highest priority. I have a newer MBP too to I have no conflicts with connections. I would also score the monitor very high on basic finish work and easy of adjustability.41 of 45 people found this useful

AMAZING DISPLAY...Some Might Not Like Glossy Screen
Written by AL from PHILADELPHIA
Oct 13, 2009
I purchased this display and I absolutely love it. The quality is amazing. Some people may not like the glossy screen, but I really do not care. I recommend purchasing the Apple Keyboard and Mouse...I already own the mouse and purchased the keyboard and love my new setup. The only thing I find annoying about the display is that the 3 built in USB ports only work when the display is connected to the computer. I was hoping to be able to charge my iPhone without the laptop plugged in but it doesn't work.

Short of the mark
Written by DM from Birmingham
Oct 12, 2009
The cables are too short for my Mac Pro. I have to use two video cards since Apple doesn't make a card with two Mini-DP outputs.
I can't stand the glare. I paid $1500 for my last CRT monitor in part because of the quality of the anti-glare coating. I want to see my work, not myself or things behind me. Why has this escaped Apple?
Back to the Apple Store these go. You would think they would have a good option for professionals considering they sell $5,000 desktops!
Please, Please provide a matte display and either give us cables that are long enough or give us a free set of extension cords (like on the aluminum keyboards). A modern video card with two mini-DP ports and 10 bit color would be quite nice as well.
Thanks.108 of 127 people found this useful

Apple LED Cinema Display (24" flat panel)
Very satisfied, but a couple of minor gripes.
Written by PW from WESTWOOD
Oct 11, 2009
Pros:
- Stunning image quality, check out Apple's HD trailers and be amazed
- excellent brightness, which overcomes any reflection of the glossy finish ppl complain about.
- very clear speakers (but don't expect it to match the sound quality of external 2.1 or 5.1)
- Of course, great visual aesthetics and design
- It's a nice cabling solution that sidesteps the need for a docking station and dedicated A/C adapter for the computer.
Cons I can live with:
- Advertising "3 self-powered USB ports" to me is not accurate. The ports rely on the computer USB connection for power. So when you undock, your ipod or iphone will stop charging.
- No height adjustment on stand, though there is a VESA adapter available.
- Connections are proprietary.
My suggestions:
Looking to the near future, it would be cleaner to leverage a dedicated industry-standard HDMI cable connection for the video & sound. For power & data, Apple should take a cue from it's ipod/iphone design and use a single cable connection for both. Couldn't you just expand the Magsafe connector by a couple of pins? That would enable the display to be non-proprietary, and simplify docking down to 2 cables.
For the more distant future, I'm confident Apple will get things slimmed down to a single cable, maybe based on Intel's LightPeak.32 of 35 people found this useful

not compatable and bad color photographers beware
Written by CH from Salt Lake City

This gets 5 stars in being pretty and 0 starts for working anything but the NEWEST Macpro and/or the new Macbooks. The $30 adapter does not make this work, regardless of what the under trained CS staff tells you.
Also the color is not good for printing, even after being profiled. I'm going to look for an older 23" on ebay or get a nec I guess.
Apple, you break my heart.53 of 65 people found this useful

$1800+ and you cant throw in a DVI-D Adapter???
Written by MG from Arlington
Oct 2, 2009
Purchased 2 of these monitors as dual displays for a loaded Mac Pro... yet when you select the additional monitor option you don't get the adapter that allows you to use the second display on your Mac Pro. The Mac Pro only comes with a DVI-D & Mini display video ports. The monitors only connect via mini connector.
Apple! You cant spring for an adapter when I just dropped $10,000 on your setup!? Boooo...
Truly beautiful monitors though... Stunning actually.
Are they worth the price? Not when you price them head to head with other monitors. But if you HAVE to have a beautiful fully matched Apple setup, then yes.66 of 83 people found this useful

this is easily the best looking monitor ive ever owned, i was hesitant about the limited connectivity with the monitor as it does use the mini dvi connector, but with my brand new MacBook Pro its a perfect match! my desk looks awesome with it and its is crystal clear, i use low lighting sources so i have no glare problems whatsoever, this is way easier on my eyes, so bright, and the colors are GREAT! i do photography and this monitor is one purchase that makes me just as happy as when i bought my MacBook Pro, seamless integration! and i am actually surprised by the speaker quality, i even disconnected my original external speakers i was using when i plugged my MacBook Pro into an external monitor
also, some people complained about the length of cords... but its designed for a MacBook... and aftermarket mini dvi extensions are super cheap/easy to find on google if you do want to use it with a Mac Pro or use multiple displays35 of 42 people found this useful

Best Monitor Ever
Written by CB from Westminster
Sep 23, 2009
I've bought alot of monitors and this one replaced another 24" (LG) when I got my Mac Pro. Man - what a difference. I am a designer so I need accurate even color -- this is the first monitor that actually gives me that. Images jump off the screen, text is clear, video is perfect. So don't believe people who think this is just like every other monitor out there-- it's not. If you have the right connection then get it.

Impressive quality, don't believe the whiners.
Written by AH from Berkeley
Sep 21, 2009
Just deboxed my new monitor, absolutely top-notch quality and connectivity. I have a macbook pro and couldn't be happier with the three-prong cord arrangement.
To address the two main gripes with this product-
1) The screen is not a mirror! I have a mixed brightness background and have very little visual interference issues when the monitor is on.
2) The interface cable is actually a little long for my liking. If you think the cable is too short, you probably have your desk set up poorly! (Where do you want to put your laptop, on the other side of the room?) Clutter would be a huge concern if it were any longer.
Thank you apple for sticking to aesthetics and quality.34 of 43 people found this useful

Perfect complement to the Mac Air - 4 1/2 stars
Written by SS from Delmar
Sep 20, 2009
I bought this for office use to support my Mac Air travel laptop. Not only is it a great monitor from the standpoint of clarity, sharpness, and optical attributes, the ports give me multiple USB connects while still maintaining use of the Superdrive. This is perfect for the single USB port MacAir in the office.
Having read the other reviews on the relatively short length of the connect cables I was prepared for this when I configured my office with a tray to accept the MacAir nearby.
Rated 4 1/2 so that Apple will still try to improve it - I cant think of how, though

I wanted a lcd monitor, not a MIRROR!!!!
Written by PA from Montreal
Sep 17, 2009
All right I did buy the Apple LED Cinema display after reading tons of reviews and understanding its specs. Some people said its glossy coating is a little intense but i tought it should be not so bad. I went to the store, ¨Oh it glossy, well its Apple it will be ok once at home, it because of the store¨ (I wanted it so badly), so I buy it, install it and begin working on it....
Wake up call!! I bought a MIRROR!! I wanted so bad to like this screen; amazing screen quality, amazing look, fit perfectly with my macbook... huge deception...
So returned the screen because in everyday life the glass on the lcd act like a mirror if you got ANY light source behind yourself: windows, light or white wall.
This is the worst mirror kind of LCD I have every worked with. I *really* don't understand how Apple engineers have come up with this one.
Stay away of this beautiful (the lcd quality is amazing when there no reflection) piece of junk....110 of 194 people found this useful

Great Monitor!
Written by RW from Santa fe
Sep 16, 2009
I've now had this monitor for about 2 months and am very pleased. This is connected to a 24" iMac for dual display functionality. The length of the video cable is short, but for my use, it works fine. The richness of color, the crisp image display, and the brightness are all amazing. The monitor is expensive and I did extend the warranty. The bottom line is I'm very pleased with the monitor and if I had it to do all over again, I would.

Great Monitor. But cables are too short.
Written by RC from Mississauga
Sep 12, 2009
THE GOOD:
- Brightness. The aluminum 23" I've owned previously had to idle for a good 3 minutes before it could fully brighten up. this new 24" lights up instantly.
contrast ratio went from 700:1 (previous) to 1000:1 (now)
- Works "instantly", when i mean instantly i mean "INSTANTLY" (for those of you who don't know or haven't owned an external apple display before.... this monitor has the ability for you to choose a different wallpaper background and brightness for each display)
- Three usb 2.0 located at the back. Great for your devices like keyboards, mouse, tablets, volume controllers, speakers, ipod charging dock, mp3 player, etc.
- Glossy. Those of you who love sharp, crisp, and smooth images for slideshows and or movies. This monitor is perfect because anti-glare finishes do distort that clarity.
- Built in speakers, microphone, and isight (webcam). In the event if your macbook was placed away or closed, you still can have full advantage like if you laptop was opened up in front of you.
THE BAD:
- No choice of anti-glare. DON'T PANIC!!! theres all sorts of anti-glare flims you can purchase over the web for this monitor.
- Connector cables are short, your mac cannot be more than 3 feet away. If your using your macbook as a secondary display this shouldn't be a problem. Or consider getting the "bookarc"
OVERALL:
In the past month - my old apple aluminum 23" LCD (previous generation) failed. This was an upgrade for me. Theres not much to say about this monitor, it does what every other monitor does on the market today, but of course, apple always kicks-it-up and notch considering style, weight and footprint to a count - its all worth the investment in end. 5/5 APPLE!59 of 65 people found this useful

Tech Problem with it after a few weeks
Written by KL from Rathfarnham

Worked great for first few weeks and then blank screen! Tech guy at Apple says he has seen the problem with others - Be really careful buying one of these unless you can get to Apple retailer easily - as they are bulky-I am now stuck having to transport it to industrial estate miles away - Nightmare stuff!

Good quality but a highly specialized tool
Written by WV from Wondelgem
Sep 7, 2009
The screen itself is a work of art, a breeze to setup and it performs admirably well with quick response times, accurate color reproduction and acceptable sound quality although audiophiles will obviously want to install dedicated speakers.
My gripes: a) the cables are REALLY too short an I can see this being a major issue for lots of users: I use it on my desk, connected to my macbook pro and even then there's not a lot of margin for arranging stuff just like I want it. Seriously, the cables should have been two feet longer. b) the display is glossy and reflects light, period. I happen to be lucky in having total control over lighting in my office but especially if ypu're in a situation with windows behind you, be advised that you'll either have to learn how to 'look through' the reflections (it can be done) or think about another monitor. c) For this price, connectivity should have been better. For me it's fine because I only use macbook/macbook pro but if you have pc's to connect, start stocking up on connectors or get another screen.53 of 65 people found this useful

This is an exceptional display, it does require however that for optimal use all lighting be up lighting. I work mainly on detailed image correction, and have found this to be an exceptional display. My work environment has only up lights, so no reflections.

Terrific, but
Written by BY from Cambridge
Sep 5, 2009
I like everything about this display.
The "but" has to with the inability to connect it to an older computer. This created a major problem for me that could have been avoided with a little less ego and a little more practicality on the part of Apple designers. It's a $900 monitor. How about a VGA port or something?33 of 39 people found this useful
