    Stunning Display, Perfect Companion

    Written by MS from Roslyn

    Apr 20, 2009

I originally had a regular widescreen monitor (Samsung) and it was a hassle to set up my Macbook Pro for use with it every time. Now I just plug in the three things and my display turns on and is a desktop computer.

So easy, and also very very beautiful. I almost wish I bought a Macbook instead of the Pro, because with this screen I hardly ever need to use the laptop anymore.

The only thing I can think of that I don't like about it is it's expensive and that I can't bring it with me to show off.

    Fantastic Display

Written by RR from La Quinta

    Apr 20, 2009

I love this display! It's everything I expected with absolutely error-free compatibility with my new MacBook Pro! The two are a perfect match. The setup was flawless and the performance has also been excellent. I've had this new gem for 4 months and have never had any problems whatsoever. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

    Good Panel with Poor Interfaces

    Written by DB from Eatontown

    Apr 18, 2009

I have tested one of these to see how it was and I was disappointed , not by the panels itself, but by the poor design (not casing) but the poor amount of display interfaces, the short cables, and the cost benefit of this screen. I hope apple is reading this and takes a look at what Dell, HP, and Samsung have to offer in their IPS and S-PVA models as they IMO are much better products and they could learn from them. There is definitely hope for this model if they can revise it with better connectivity and longer cables.

    Black is back

    Written by GB from Arlington

Great as always and expensive as always.
Of all the wacky designs Apple has had over the years, nothing beats the classic silver and the black trim is a close second and always in style.

    I want my money back!

It worked fine the first couple of weeks. After that, the display is not recognized by my MacBook Pro. It only shows one resolution: 640x480. Nothing close to the promised 1920x1200. I hate it! I want my money back!

    Needs Longer Cord

    Written by EB from Franklin

Works great on my Laptop. I would love to attach this to a new Mac Pro, but alas, the cables is way too short and there is no extension available. Apple needs to fix this pronto...

Big, Beautiful Display with Short, Ugly Cables

    Written by SC from STAFFORD

    Apr 13, 2009

I just purchased the 24" LED display to go along with my new Mac Pro.

Little did I know that the customer target for the display was MacBook Pro users (I have one of those as well).

My choice was either a 30" Cinema Display (non-LED) or this one. I'm not sure why Apple is doing such a poor job in this arena.

The screen is incredible. I have a back-lit Cinema Display next to it for a second monitor and the differences are stark. The LED display is bright and extremely crisp.

The major flaw in the monitor is, -- as other reviewers have posted -- the cables. You cannot connect the monitor to a Mac Pro unless you design a custom desk setup or place the giant Mac Pro on the top of your desk, next to the display.

I had to place my Mac Pro on a pedestal behind my desk. I have to walk around my desk to insert a CD, or access the Mac Pro.

    VERY, VERY, annoying.

Hopefully Apple will resolve this issue shortly.

If the cables had just been 12 to 18 inches longer, this would have been a five star review.

short cable - ugh! bad apple

    Written by CN from Brooklyn

    Apr 13, 2009

Just bought a LED CInema display and Mac Pro.
The display looks beautiful and works like a dream ... BUT only with my MAC BOOK PRO. !?#%^&?

I can't use it with my Mac Pro because the cable for the display is too short and there are no extenders available. The add says the display will work with Mac Pro but does not say they have to next to each other.

I'm very disappointed. I have two friends that that will delay their purchase of this same set up until the problem is resolved. The LED display should come with an extension cable for use with MAC PRO. They should offer free extensions to all that purchased the display.

I'm all for clean desktop with connecting MBP to LED CD but this short cable is such an obvious oversight.

    HENCE, 1 star.

Unbelievable Image Quality, Really Short Cord

    Written by JB from Lemont

    Apr 12, 2009

Bottom line, this is an absolutely stunning monitor. The mini display port connection works great with a macbook pro. The only downside is the short cord. I don't know how they could be this dumb. I just got the new mac pro with the mini displayport and I have to crawl under my desk to switch between mac pro or macbook pro. Did they really think that 4 feet of cord is reasonable. When you spend nearly $5000 on a system, you'd think you would be able to put the computer where you want it to be.

    Hoping the extension comes soon.

You pay for an excellent monitor.

    Written by RH from Murray

    Apr 11, 2009

I'm using this monitor with the latest Mac Pro. I have a son with a Mac Book and can use it with his computer as well (not at the same time of course). The picture quality is astounding. The sound could use a little more watts - I have it at full volume most of the time. The price is a bit hefty. Interestingly the same monitor is used in new IMACs starting at some $700 more. The screen is highly reflective but I find my consciousness of this is minimumal - the trade off being a gorgeous picture. Look at it before you buy and if the price is worth it to you then buy it, enjoy it, and don't complain. I had one little problem out of the box. I inadvertently used the Mac Pro power cable on it and its power cable on the Mac Pro - the computer worked but the screen showed no sign of life - so pay attention and you won't feel like a fool.

Everything considered... one of the best displays available!

    Written by KK from Toronto

    Apr 9, 2009

I purchased this display as a companion to my Unibody Macbook 2.4 Ghz. The first display arrived and had a few speckles of dust under the glass. I immediately called Apple and they agreed to replace the item (though this was after they tried to have me take it into an Apple Store to get it fixed).

All in all this is a great display with lush colours and excellent cable management for the latest generation of Macbooks. The display has an excellent contrast ratio. The blacks are very black and white is very white.

The only drawback is that the screen is reflective even with a little ambient light in the room. However, if you can look beyond that then I highly recommend it.

    Great resolution; hopeless cable

    Written by PD from TOORAK

    Apr 8, 2009

It is either a stupid design fault or irresponsible marketing. I just bought 2 displays. Nowhere did I discover prior to purchase that they are almost impossible to use with a Mac Pro because the cables are so very short. I've moved my Mac onto my desk and just managed to connect them, but I have to stand up to use the CD/DVD tray.

The image quality is great, but one of the displays first ran with a vertical purple line that has now turned pale yellow. It is back to the reseller for a dispute tomorrow. This is my first serious Mac Grump in 25 years.

    Glossy Screen is Distracting

Written by DF from Oak Park

    Apr 6, 2009

Beautiful monitor as far as resolution and crispness, but the glossy screen is very distracting. It's like staring into an aquarium all day.

As a graphic designer and Photoshop retoucher/color corrector, this makes it difficult to do my work. There wasn't an alternative choice for my new Mac purchase, other than buying a third party monitor, or an older (used) 23' Cinema Display. But, I would rather stick with Apple in the long run, having been a long-time customer and supporter.

Last note: You don't get much of a stereo feeling with the built-in speakers, as they are fairly close together. If you want a true stereo "spread", and deeper bass response, I would recommend purchasing external speakers with a subwoofer.

I'm a serious retoucher and there is no way I can work with such a glossy screen. TOO reflective even in total darkness the is reflection. Not that its a bad thing but not I just not for serious Professional. Already loosing to Samsung and Eizo in terms of direct control and profile with ONLY brightness control and now with a glossy scereen?? Will have to get Eizo now although is more expensive but worth every cent.

Nice monitor / cable is too short

    Written by PM from Woodside

    Apr 5, 2009

I just bought a new Mac Pro and this monitor. The monitor is great and the built in USB offers (3) extension ports, webcam, mic and speakers. But, the cable is too short!!

It seems that it was really targeted to new Macbook Pros where the laptop will be on the desk with the monitor. If you are a Mac Pro user and want to place the Pro under your desk it is likely that the the cable will not reach. And, as of this writing there is no way to extend the cable.

There are already a fist full of Apple adapters available for mini display port. Seems that Apple missed the boat by not providing for a way to extend the cable for Mac Pro users.

    WOW

    Written by PJ from Montreal

This display is beautiful. no. gorgeous. My jaw literally dropped once I had it set up and turned on for the first time. The speakers are great, and its nice to have extra USB ports on the back. A BIT on the pricey side, yes, but once you set this thing up, youll see it was worth every penny. My only complaint is that the MacBook has to be OPEN to have the screen on. Unless I'm doing something wrong....

    Apple's big misstep

Written by DS from North Hollywood

    Apr 3, 2009

I've owned nothing but Apple products since the early 80's. I was hoping to purchase 6 new 24" monitors for my creative agency, but was stunned to find that Apple only makes these monitors with glossy screens. These are impossible to use at a design studio for reasons mentioned numerous times below. The only option they've left designers is to pay $1800 for the 30", which is too expensive and overkill, size-wise.

Apple has really dropped the ball on this one by ignoring what has been its core demographic for a very long time. For the first time, I'm left with no choice but to purchase monitors from a third party, and Apple drove me right to their doorstep. What in the world are they thinking?

    Glossy screen is very distracting.

Written by AN from San Francisco

    Apr 1, 2009

I didn't purchase this monitor for the sole reason that the screen is so glossy that I found it to be very distracting. I actually purchased one of the older models of Apple 23" monitors (which I love) because it is so important to me to not have the glossy sheen. When you are designing on a monitor all day long, the last thing you want to be able to see is your own reflection staring back at you from your monitor. I am a long time user of apple products, and this is the first time I can remember that Apple did not offer users a matte screen option. I really hope that Apple re-thinks the glossy screens on both laptops and displays as soon as possible.

    Excellent Display

    Written by HV from Dartmouth

    Mar 31, 2009

The image quality is excellent. I am using this with a new MacBook Pro, both of which are a pleasure to use. From a functional standpoint, it would be helpful if the height was adjustable. I consider this to be a significant design flaw and an inappropriate choice of form over function. Otherwise a beautiful product in every respect. Giving a low score to a product which does not perform well in situations for which it is not designed is not a sensible or helpful way to use a rating system.

    24" GLOSSY screen

Written by JM from ORMOND BEACH

    Mar 30, 2009

This would't be a bad display if it had two options.Matte screen and additional input connections. As it's currently offered its unusable in professional applications due to the glossy only screen. GLoss screens unnaturally boost contrast which of course does not display on finished printed materials.
