I don't see why everyone is complaining. It says right in the description that this is made for the Macbooks, not for the Mac Pro. The cords are not meant to be super long because you can just set your Macbook on your desk and plug it in.

I have one for my Macbook Air and I love it.

5 Star Features, 1 Star Glare

    Written by DJ from Star

    May 21, 2009

I tried one of these out extensively at my local Mac distributor and after 1/2 hour of working it over I came to the conclusion that one aspect alone will keep me from getting this or any other new Mac. TOO MUCH GLARE. As a photographer and designer, I rely on my computer screen for the bucks in my bank account and having a screen that I constantly have to tilt and turn my head to see the details on was annoying. The monitor was even in a low lit section of the store, but I felt like a boxer; duck, dodge, and shift. I am aware that the 17 inch pro has an antiglare screen option, so put it on the rest of the machines. I love the all in one charger, USB, and Firewire. The features of this were made for a digital artist like myself with a MB pro, but the glare will keep my money in my bank account until this gets fixed. Dido for the 15 inch pro and the iMac. It may be easier to clean, but its too much effort to work with.

    Simply Awesome!

Written by SE from Cadier en Keer

    May 21, 2009

I am very happy with this monitor and feel it's well worth the price. the design is beautiful and it works perfect with my early 2008 Mac Pro and Nvidia GT 120 graphics card, which by the way, works perfect with my '08 Mac.

I had originally bought the 30 inch cinema display but returned it because of some uneven backlighting and a couple of hot pixels. I was a bit hesitant to go with the LED because of the problems some had complained about on the forums, but, I took the chance and it payed off. No dead pixels, no dust and the colors, sharpness and contrast are amazing. this monitor is perfect in size and performance.

Some people complain about the short cable. For me the length is not a problem. My Mac Pro resides under my table about 6 inches away from my left knee and there's still plenty of slack on the monitor's cable. PERFECT!!!

I love everything about this monitor and just have to say that if your Mac Pro sits underneath your desk and as close as I have it, you won't have any problems whatsoever!

    Apple, you can do better

    Written by SB from Prescott

    May 20, 2009

We buy several new machines per year from Apple, and this is the first product that I have purchased, and been genuinely disappointed with. The 24" LED monitor and new MAC Pro were purchased together, yet the LED cinema display comes with a monitor cord barely 24" long. This requires us to put the Mac Pro on the top of the desk (creating clutter and inefficiency), and even then, the monitor needs to be at an angle to keep the cord from being over-stretched. There was no extension cord supplied and when we called Apple support, they acknowledged the design flaw, yet still referred us to a third-party vendor to resolve the issue. You can do better...

Bad Design .... What is apple thinking?

Written by TJ from North Yorkshire

    May 20, 2009

Do not get me wrong, it looks fantastic and has good quality. But what was apple thinking when they fitted it with a "fixed" 1 meter cable that has a mini-DV plug at the end of the cable which does not even reach my PC case. How are you gonna design a new format plug that you do not bother to put accessories I.E extension cables etc. on the market. Have you ever thought that if you put 2 x 24 cinema displays on your desk .... that one of your displays cables will not reach to plug into your Mac Pro? The 24" cinema display has a "Male mini-DV" plug on it, the only device that you have made with a "Female mini-DV" socket is the video card ... So how do you "Brainiacs" suggest your clients bridge the gap to get the second display connected other than placing your Mac Pro directly behind the displays which is about as stupid as this design.

    Great Display

    Written by JM from Wheaton

    May 19, 2009

Okay, this is an awesome display. I was at the Apple Store the other day and was checking it out for quite some time, and I'm going to buy one as soon as I can. For all of you people who keep complaining that the cord is too short, please stop, because Apple has clearly stated on all its advertisements for this display that this is "made specifically for the Macbook family". This means that its designed with Macbooks and Macbook Pros in mind (which can sit on top of your desk without taking up too much room). This means that its NOT specifically designed for desktops (Mac Pros etc...). If you're looking for a display for your desktop, then either buy the Apple 30" display (which is awesome) or buy a Samsung or something else. For the Macbook or Macbook Pro, however, I think you couldn't find a better solution.

    Beautiful Display

    Written by MM from Canton

    May 12, 2009

Display is flat-out amazing, and allows you to work in the 17" MBP's native resolution, which is very handy. Colors are accurate, crisp, and rival that of the actual MBP itself. Great for graphic designers. I can't say enough good things about the picture. The speakers, however, are VERY tinny/high in treble, so if you're concerned about sound quality, I'd recommend using external speakers. Overall, great product. Tough to spend the $800+ on a display JUST for the MacBook/Pro, but worth it if you need a high-end desktop display.

Here's what you want to do if you own a MacBook...
buy this display, a good mouse, and the Apple wired keyboard. Now you have a desktop "docking" station without compromise.

This display is so crisp and detailed you'll be pinching yourself every time you fire it up. Glossy is great, and easy to clean...much better than that old-school matte junk that gets clogged up with microscopic dirt particles when you clean it.

You know you like the best. Quit dinkin' around researching on the web, reading reviews, weighing $$ options, and just get it!! You WILL NOT be disappointed!!

...and did I mention the LED technology?

Great monitor, rich colors, SUPER BRIGHT, but needs a longer cord!

Written by AT from NEW YORK

    May 3, 2009

Turning it on hurt my eyes, even with the room already well lit, I have it just under medium which is fine for me. Colors are vivid. speakers, isight and extra usb ports are so so nice to have, especially since I'm using it with a Macbook Air (nvidia graphics and it plays 1080p flawlessly). If you're just ichat-chatting or doing very light internet browsing the fan doesn't spin up (at least not so audible). But anything more and it whirls harder, which isn't a big deal, but thats a MacBook Air thing, not a LED cinema display thing. Lastly, yes, the cable containing the power, USB and Display Port is short. They should add another foot to make customers happier, but since my laptop is close by I'll easily fine a work around. 5 stars for the display, minus one for a short cable.

FOR LAPTOP, NOT FOR DESKTOP: Cable too short and startup issues

    Written by SS from Pittsburgh

    Apr 30, 2009

AGH! The cable length on these new 24" displays is like a meter: great for laptop users who will use only one monitor and want a nice neat cabling system (even comes with a passthrough MagSafe power adapter; i.e. save your existing charger for your travel bag).

BUT alas, I bought two for my MacPro and had to cobble a solution: drilled a hole in my desk exactly between the two monitors--couldn't use existing corner hole or go straight back over the desk--and then have the back of the MacPro directly under that hole. Also note, Apple doesn't sell a mini-displayport extension cable (opposite to their realizing they needed one for their keyboards).

ALSO, fired up my MacPro for the first time and nothing came up on the monitors, and they don't have a power button, this is a huge issue I'm still dealing with!

FINAL THOUGHT: Go with the 30" if you have the MacPro (or can I say another vendor for 24", one with standard DIV connector?)--save yourself the trouble!

    Nice Display with 2 issues

    Written by JD from Anjou

    Apr 30, 2009

    Good
    1-This is a great display

    Bad
1-but mine had some ticking noise near the speakers and that might drive people nuts when their are in a quiet room. The problem comes from a faulty power supply .

2-People had mention about the color shifting problems but i had not experience it yet .

Both are common issues , so wait for refresh or get a replacement each time the problems occurs .

    Nice monitor with some drawbacks

Written by JB from Little Elm

    Apr 28, 2009

As a long time Apple user I recently upgraded to this monitor paired with a Mac Mini. I used a 23" LCD Apple Cinema Display for 7 years prior to this switch. Out of the box it looks impressive with the black bezel. The first thing I noticed is that this LED monitor is bright...way too bright. It's like staring at a light bulb. You can turn down the brightness thankfully but that is the only setting.

On the default color setting colors appear to be washed out compared to a recent iMac or other Apple Cinema Display. My other issue is that I can hear a very high pitched humming sound while sitting in front of this monitor when it's quiet at night in my office. It's very distracting like a ringing in my ear. Maybe I am sensitive to this but I never had a problem with the old LCD Apple monitors.

Otherwise it has a very high contrast and incredibly sharp image. The sound from the speakers is mediocre and lacks the low end of the iMac. If I could afford the 30" LCD Apple Cinema I would much prefer that or even the previously discontinued 23" Apple Cinema if I could purchase one. I didn't have an issue with the cord length as it's sitting right next to my Mac Mini. As a long time Apple fan it's disappointing for the price overall.

Great product - but not enough info from Apple Phone Sales

    Written by JT from LAKEWOOD

    Apr 23, 2009

I've had my MacPro and 24" Cinema Display for a week now, and could not be any happier with the stunning display! Like many other MacPro users, I was not aware of the short cord issue (read the reviews, duh!) Fortunately, my current setup works very well, but now I have a new problem. My once-satisfactory desk, next to my shiny new MacPro and under this incredible monitor, looks really shabby. I'm finding that the short cord of the Cinema display, without tha availablility of a reasonably-priced extension, limits the options for a new desk. I'm not complaining here, since I'll enjoy the process of looking for a suitable desk to show off my new hardware - just letting others know what I found out after I made the purchase. I am still VERY pleased with the display, and have no problems with any glare (light in room comes from north and east windows). In any case, great product, Apple! Just please help us MacPro users out with an extension for the mini-display cable (USB cable extender was included).

    Awesome Display

    Written by JV from Litchfield

    Apr 22, 2009

I love this display!! It works great for my Macbook and my son's MBP..!!! Not being a graphics designer/re-toucher.. I don't mind the glossiness but can see where that may be a problem. Also, this Monitor is not marketed to Mac Pro's or desktop computers, it is specifically marketed towards Apple Laptops (Macbooks/MBPs) hence the short cord. This is probably the reason why so many people are having problems with the short cord. While I agree that the cord should be longer, the target market for Apple I believe is the laptop market.

I love Apple and have been a diehard user for the past 18 years....but the new Cinema Display's cable is ridiculously short. You have no choice but to have your Mac Pro on your desk right next to the display. Any further than that and the cable won't reach. Forget about putting your Mac Pro on the floor....what were you thinking Apple???? I'm going to start looking for another monitor and return this sucker.

    Another great product from Apple

    Written by JS from Miami

    Apr 21, 2009

Another expensive Apple product as always but nonetheless worth it. I am purchasing another one for a second home. I am actually using a Macbook now as my main computer and I am selling my two iMac 24"s. I work on Excel forms that are two large for a 13.3" screen and this does the trick. No more file sharing between computers as it is now all in one portable notebook.

The cords could be longer but it doesn't bother me. I use the bluetooth keyboard and mouse with the notebook closed. I travel a lot and this makes life easier coming home to my two home bases.

As with everything in life, I would like to see this display offered at a less expensive price but compared to an ordinary display of equal size it is twice as expensive but the quality is more than double that.....so you get what you pay for. How can you go wrong with a extended warranty? Two more years for $99....well worth it.

    Stunning Display, Perfect Companion

    Written by MS from Roslyn

    Apr 20, 2009

I originally had a regular widescreen monitor (Samsung) and it was a hassle to set up my Macbook Pro for use with it every time. Now I just plug in the three things and my display turns on and is a desktop computer.

So easy, and also very very beautiful. I almost wish I bought a Macbook instead of the Pro, because with this screen I hardly ever need to use the laptop anymore.

The only thing I can think of that I don't like about it is it's expensive and that I can't bring it with me to show off.
