great for my steaming music
Written by LS from Williamsville

I was able to eliminate my 5 CD changer and now exclusively play all music through the Airport express from iTunes... My only complaint is occasionally I get a temporary interruption of music. but only for a few seconds and it is very sporadic. My Express is one of the earliest versions maybe 3 years old(?). I am now working on playing my Sirius Radio through this system.

At first to me it was a little confusing to set up but once i figured it out, it works like its suppose to. Other than my iMac, I have my macbook pro and my itouch running out of it with no problems. The internet works great. I bought two other wireless routers in the past with no luck with it working properly but this one works great.

quality-sound:medium;install:excellent;usage:excellent
Written by ET from Amsterdam

The product was installed in 10 minutes. (*)
The iTunes integration is perfect
The sound is medium-poor quality; can be improved by using the equalizer of iTunes instead of the adjusting knobs of the amplifier.
The design is as usual - perfect.
(*) I used a different setup by connecting the airport with an existing WIFI network by means of a wire instead of wireless. In this way the network is used more efficiently.3 of 4 people found this useful

It's a great integration piece for the speakers, phone and iPod touch.
Efficient with the use of the speakers printer and MacBook. Just think: No Wires!
and even when I have guests they can use their iPod touch at my place. Very much recommended.6 of 7 people found this useful

Great but not so great when playing itunes
Written by AR from Sarnia

This product is great, easy to hide not pricy and the overall wireless functions works to perfection, but sometimes when I play my itunes from my macbook threw my stereo it will stop playing, then start, then stop again, and its not because of my stereo system because it is of higher end, a little weird but overall it a great product.

Sweet Wireless Music Stream
Written by NB from Marion
Oct 23, 2009
Purchased my AirPort Express to use with the AirTunes wireless audio feature about 6 months ago. Is a great purchase for streaming music to your home audio system, is compact and is easy to hide. I gave it four stars because my house is a mix of PCs and macs and it did take me a little time to get the firmware set up and I did have to call Apple for help, but they were wicked helpful like they always are. Although, they are hesitant sometimes to give you advice on fixing bugs with Apple products when you are using it with a PC, even though you know these kids know how to fix the problem. The other reason for the 4 stars is because I think you should be able to stream audio to this device straight from your Iphone. I mean, how fat would that be? The ability exists for the Iphone to do this they just need to build it into the software, but why haven't you yet Apple? Buy Apple stock.

Works as Advertised

I'm very pleased with my new Airport Express with 802.11n
My primary reason for buying this product was to be able to stream my iTunes music to my living room stereo. Since my iTunes collection lives on a Vista PC, and my wireless router is a Linksys Wire G setup - I was prepared for a few wrinkles in the installation.
Setup took about ten minutes. One (minor) complaint is that the included documentation didn't fully explain the process of installing and correctly configuring the Airport Utility to allow iTunes to stream music to the Airport Express. A little more detail in the installation manual would have been helpful there.
Since the network I'm running is Wireless G, I suspect I'm not getting the full benefits of the latest 802.11n technology. I do notice the occasional dropping of the wireless signal, although this may be improved by tweaking the location of my wireless router, the Airport Express, and the antenna of my PC. I'm also using my iPod Touch as a remote control, which may be placing additional load on the network.
I'd have paid $99 for the simple ability to stream iTunes music to my living room stereo. The additional capabilities f the AirPort Express (like the ability to create a wireless network "on the road", or create a wireless printer location) are simply extra benefits.12 of 16 people found this useful

Wish it would auto-connect to extended networks
Written by RP from Cedar Park

The Airport extreme solved my coverage problems. The only issue I have is my microwave oven (or Direct TV) is causing dropped reception, then the wireless devices connect back to my main Apple Extreme network, rather than the extended network. I have to then reconnect my network services on the laptop and Squeezebox, to get the optimum connection via my extended network.
Apple, can you re-write the firmware / software to do an auto-reconnect via the extended network (if in range) as a priority rather than reconnecting back to the main node?
Also, please extend the software to view more than 5 min of connectivity in the log file. This is in serious need of an update to help us pin-point root cause issues with interference issue and timing.19 of 21 people found this useful

NO WIRES!

I am using this with an airport extreme for a completely wireless home network. I use the airport extreme to handle an external hard drive (keeps my itunes library) and printer and the airport express to stream music to my stereo.
This setup is excellent and exactly what I wanted. If the airport extreme had the audio output... that would be phenomenal. Sadly it does not... the express is perfect if you don't use an external HD for music.
Drawback: does not hand external hard drive27 of 34 people found this useful

Product works well, but I was mislead
Written by RB from Chicago

My 500GB time capsule, which is only 16 months old stopped working the other day (simply won't power up). Rather than spend another $300 on the 1TB time capsule, I thought I might save some $ and go with an external drive and separate the two components so I don't lose both if I have problems again. I was lead to believe that the USB port on the Airport Express would accept an external drive and allow Time Capsule to back up on it. This is not the case. The USB appears to be ONLY FOR PRINTERS. Other than this error in information the Apple employee provided, I am pleased with the Airport Express. The internet speed is fast and the signal runs through my entire condo. Unfortunately, I will be taking it back to get the more expensive Airport Extreme so I can back up my computer wirelessly again.

Missed the boat

The Airport is great for itunes from your Mac only. It works like it says it does and does it well. I also like it because I can print wirelessly from my MacBook using the USB output to my printer.
BUT... I feel Apple dropped the ball because I feel it should allow any audio, regardless of which software, be it on the mac or iPhone, to be played wirelessly. One should be able to select, in system preferences, the Airport as an Audio output. I also feel it would be an excellent way to facilitate printing from the iPhone.32 of 37 people found this useful

What can I say? You plug it in, attach the cords, restart your cable modem, pick a name for your network and it works!
I would have given it 5 stars if it had allowed for the sharing of hard drives as well.18 of 21 people found this useful

I bought this product over a year ago. I have had no technical issues with it, and it was very easy to get started using it for the features that I bought it for (wireless printing and airtunes.)
If you think it is to expensive, do not worry. With all the features that it has it is priced very competitively. Have no fear, it is a great product.9 of 9 people found this useful

Works very well

I am a college student living in an apartment where the wifi is less than reliable, but the ethernet port works fairly well. For convenience, I decided to create my own wireless network using the airport express.
This is really good router, that produces wifi signal. It's performance is near excellent. I can tell know difference between the speed I get when I plug my lap top straight into the ethernet port and when I'm connecting via the airport's wifi connection.
The aiport express does have some limitations though. For one, the usb port is not powered, and is only really intended for printing. Also, it will only work for printing, no other data transfer. That means that you cannot use it with a hard drive, and it will not work with any other functions of your printer (i.e. scanning and faxing). It will not charge an ipod! Secondly, the 3.5mm headphone jack only works with powered speakers (of course you wouldn't expect it actually power any speakers for you), and only works with streaming itunes. No other media player will work. I have an aluminum body macbook (I got it in the six months before they all turned pro :-( ), and use mostly apple software. Oh, and incase this is the only review you read I did ask one of the sales people if it can be used to create a hard ethernet port where one is not available, to plug products that are not wifi compatible but need an internet connection. Though I haven't tried it yet he said yes.37 of 42 people found this useful

A Solid Piece of Equipment
Written by MR from Aurora
Aug 14, 2009
I've had this little white box for over a year and a half now and it's still working fine. Price aside, there are very few complaints I have making this a solid investment for the wireless network in my single bedroom apartment. Streaming music via itunes and surfing the net is simple to set up and rarely is maintenance required. The only problems I have encountered have been when the summer heat has caused it to seize up. My environment is frequently upwards of 35 C which causes it to stop working, but if you're not living in such a heated climate or if you have the A/C running you need not worry of any problems. I highly recommend this product.
