I bought this to extend my time capsule wireless network as a range extender. The location happended to be near my stereo. It was incredibly easy to set up and as a bonus I set up airtunes.
This is one of the best $99 pieces of electronics I have bought. Now, my whole house has a great wireless signal and airtunes is phenominal. I love that I can play songs on itunes and using the genius feature means I can stream music mixes throughout my house on demand.
One other feature that I look forward to trying is that since it is so compact it can be a wifi network on the go (since I take my macbook on trips) when I visit family and friends by hooking into their high-speed internet connection.

Easy setup and made even easier with iPhone app Remote. It did pose a problem with my boyfriend's PC. It took him half a day to get it working.

Airport Extreme would not see this unit using Airport Utility on a Mac G5 (PPC). Finally got the unit recognized using Airport Utility on an iMac after several resets and hours of frustration. Enjoyed iTunes streaming to my receiver for a few weeks then the unit died.

I would have had a hard time getting this to work, but my IT Guy (my 16 year old son) had it up and working in no time. He had to update our 10.4.11 Airport utility. Thanks CC. Works well throughout a large house and even outside. Now my tunes are always with us. I only wish I would have found this sooner.

I have 2 Airport Expresses connected to an Airport Extreme base station. One streams music to the sound system and the other extends the network around the house. Both of them work very well. I also have both Macs and PC connected to the network and information is shared across all computers. Sometimes the Airports can be a little tricky to set up (particularly if you have different versions of them) but the Apple help personnel do a great job in assisting. I would highly recommend this product.

Rockin' with the AirPort E

I read all the reviews and had some concerns if this would work as expected. Well cast all doubt aside, as with any Apple product I have had the pleasure of using this one wowed me. From setup to use, the experience was fantastic. My primary use was to extend the iTunes library without carting the iMac, iPod or iPhone around the house and plugging them in. I have an existing wireless environment which I added the AE to. Using the configuration software it took minutes from box to tunes. Amazing results, not only did I increase the range of the wireless environment but had crystal clear tunes being pumped to my home audio system. After downloading the iTunes remote application to my iPhone I truly had the power of iTunes in my hand. If you are thinking about buying this product you can stop. Just do it, you will not be disappointed. I will be purchasing another to connect more audio equipment in a remote part of the house. Nice job Apple.

I set this up with an airport extreme to extend my network to our church. The house is about 65 ft. from the church. This little box in conjunction with airport extreme was the perfect solution. I had previously used linksys products to achieve a similar result, but found this to be worth the extra $$. Airport was simpler, faster, more powerful and gives me the benefit of printing, storing, and listening to music wire free. Thanks Apple for a great product.

Indispensable

I'm probably repeating what everybody else is saying, but this thing is great for traveling. Here's my recent story.
I bought one for my wife to go with the Bose Wave Radio, and she loves being able to play here iTunes music that way. We just took a short trip and I chucked it in the luggage "just in case". Got to the hotel (older 5-star place) and found out the internet was wired, in the front room on the phone desk, with a 2 foot cable. I plugged in the Airport Express, connected to ethernet, created a new configuration for such an occasion, made up a WPA2 password and within 3 minutes had a secure wireless network for my wife and me. Never even had to think about it for the rest of the trip - it was always there when we needed it.
When I got back home, I just plugged it back into the Bose and the Airport Utility on my laptop notified me of a griping Airport Express. I chose the old configuration and was back in business within minutes.
It's fast, easy, intuitive, useful, and reliable. I thought it was overpriced when I bought it, turns out it's cheap.

We bought this router and got it up and running in under 5 minutes... without having to do lots of reading or any kind downloading. The security was super easy to setup, and the signal it gives out is awesome. Just buy this router first, you'll save a lot of time, money, and frustration.

I was looking for a wireless bridge and found a few online for cheaper than the express. However, the reviews were not good on the cheap bridges and finally I decided to read the reviews I on apple. I read one review where someone used the express as a bridge so I decided to give it a shot. The express wasn't advertised like a bridge so the set up took me almost 30 minutes before I finally figured it out but it works great. Now I can also play my music from my computer in any room in the house and I can move my xbox360, g3 iBook to any room in the house. Amazing and worth the extra money.

This product is totally awesome! I love how you can stream music around your house so easily with it! I loved to play around with the features on the iPod Touch and iPhone app "Remote", but it would make life so much easier if you could enter speaker passwords from the app. It's such a pain to always have to go to your computer and do it.
Installing the software from the CD included in the box took but only 3 minutes or so. Although, it took me 3hrs 15mins to set up my AirPort Express because I had realized that I forgot to plug in the Ethernet cable... Once that was done, everything was a breeze.
You just need to make sure everything is plugged in, read instructions CAREFULLY and everything will run smoothly.4 of 4 people found this useful

Wireless connection good; printing feature bad!
Written by CP from Sausalito

The wireless speed on this base station is impressive. I live in an 825 sq ft condo with cable broadband service, and am able to use my laptop anywhere in the house and get a strong fast connection...even outside on the deck! Walls, closets or any other obstacle is no problem--the signal is strong and clear anywhere. However there are two major problems with this product that are very disappointing. First, like others have mentioned, using my cordless phone interrupts the wireless signal. I cannot be on the land line phone and on the internet at the same time which is a huge pain (I prefer not to use my cell for local calls). The second major problem is the wireless printing; again, like many others have complained, the instructions are woefully incomplete. I had to spend a lot of time searching online forums and fix-it pages trying to set-up the wireless printing function. Unfortunately its a multi-step process that must be repeated EVERY TIME YOU TURN YOUR PRINTER ON! I turn my printer off at night not only because it gets hot but the fan noise is disturbing. The fact that the Airport Express can't remember that its connected to the printer is ridiculous. I don't have the time to go thru hoops every morning to set up the wireless printing function over and over. So buyer beware... if you're looking for an inexpensive router to get wireless internet then great. However don't expect the wireless printer function to be easy nor reliable.

2+ years and still going strong
Written by SS from Mokena

My one concern in reading previous reviews while considering purchasing an Express was that some reported that the Express "crapped out" around the year mark. I made the purchase anyway and have been very happy with it. But I waited on making a review to see if it would last past the year mark. I can now report that I have had my original Express for OVER 2 YEARS and it still works like a charm. I have since bought 2 more for other remote speakers in the house, and have never had a problem. I am VERY happy with my purchase.
I originally used the Express as an extension to an Extreme, but now use the Express as the main hub, and see no noticeable fall off. I was pleasantly surprised!7 of 7 people found this useful
