Outstanding

I am running Snow Leopard and iTunes8 on a Mac Pro 2x2.8 core. The installation went without a glitch and took 5 minutes. Just make sure that your firewalls are configured to allow for the access of the Apple Remote software if you are using your iPod Touch or iPhone to control iTunes. Also ensure that you update its software to the latest version, that took another 5 minutes. The Express is connected via optical to my Denon AVR 5803 receiver and I have absolutely no drop outs of any kind. The audio quality is very good considering I am streaming compressed iTunes 256K files. Typical bit rates over the network are peaking at about around 170KB/s.
I understand that many users have had drop outs when using the optical connection, I have none!
So far I can totally recommend this product for wireless audio streaming.20 of 21 people found this useful

Before buying the airport express, I bought a Belkin router and my internet connection was pretty sluggish. I returned the router for the Airport Express and it works great. I connected my Airport Express to my Bose sound dock with a 3.5mm cord and I am playing music wirelessly as we speak. You can as set the Airport up to wirelessly print documents. I could not ask for a better wireless solution for my apartment.

This is a great product! I just moved into a new apartment and needed a new wireless router. I was going to get the Time Machine but i didn't have that much money at the time. For only 99 dollars, it takes 5 minutes to set up and you're good to go! Not to mention that the 802.11n is great especially if you have more than one mac sharing a lot of files! The USB port is awesome for my printer as well! Would recommend this to anyone, even PC users.

What can I say? You plug it in, attach the cords, restart your cable modem, pick a name for your network and it works!
I would have given it 5 stars if it had allowed for the sharing of hard drives as well.18 of 20 people found this useful

my advice: stay away
Written by TO from New York

AirPort Express is simply well below Apple standards for quality and simplicity of use.
I've been struggling to get it to set up a wireless network at home to get online. After several dozen attempts, I succeeded, but after only a day of work the router lost internet connection. I spent several hours(!) to get it to work again, but failed. I can get online via Ethernet if I plug the cable directly into my MacBook Pro, but not when the Ethernet cable is plugged in the AX. (AirTunes and wireless printing work fine.)
Apple must recall this product.7 of 47 people found this useful

I bought this product over a year ago. I have had no technical issues with it, and it was very easy to get started using it for the features that I bought it for (wireless printing and airtunes.)
If you think it is to expensive, do not worry. With all the features that it has it is priced very competitively. Have no fear, it is a great product.9 of 9 people found this useful

LOVED... but then was confused.
Written by OP from Flower Mound

I LOVED my AirPort Express! I used it to connect my printer and my laptop wirelessly, so I could be downstairs and print all the way to upstairs.
Unfortunately, my good experience did not continue. I proceed to move into my college dorm and try to set my AirPort up there. I am not super technology-savy, but neither I nor my computer-genuis-boyfriend, nor my accounting-major-father could get it to connect to the printer again!
If you have any ideas on ways to fix it let me know! Until then, my AirPort shall be sitting in its neat little box.18 of 29 people found this useful

Works very well

I am a college student living in an apartment where the wifi is less than reliable, but the ethernet port works fairly well. For convenience, I decided to create my own wireless network using the airport express.
This is really good router, that produces wifi signal. It's performance is near excellent. I can tell know difference between the speed I get when I plug my lap top straight into the ethernet port and when I'm connecting via the airport's wifi connection.
The aiport express does have some limitations though. For one, the usb port is not powered, and is only really intended for printing. Also, it will only work for printing, no other data transfer. That means that you cannot use it with a hard drive, and it will not work with any other functions of your printer (i.e. scanning and faxing). It will not charge an ipod! Secondly, the 3.5mm headphone jack only works with powered speakers (of course you wouldn't expect it actually power any speakers for you), and only works with streaming itunes. No other media player will work. I have an aluminum body macbook (I got it in the six months before they all turned pro :-( ), and use mostly apple software. Oh, and incase this is the only review you read I did ask one of the sales people if it can be used to create a hard ethernet port where one is not available, to plug products that are not wifi compatible but need an internet connection. Though I haven't tried it yet he said yes.37 of 42 people found this useful

Networking Made Easy

I have a pc set up in a different room from my iMac and wireless router, and needed and easy way to link the pc and a usb printer to my network. The AirPort Express couldn't have been easier to set up! After about 15 minutes, the pc is up and running on the 'net. Thanks Apple for continually making life easy for your customers!

Horrible from the second I plugged it in. It seemed to work well at first, but it will not hold a connection for more than 3 minutes tops. Needs to be constantly rest or you have to wait 5 minutes to find the connection again. I was extremely disappointed, I thought Apple was better than this. Buyer BEWARE!

My old AE lasted almost 5 years

I had the previous version of this product and it finally died during a recent heatwave. Up until then it had been one of my most reliable pieces of apple hardware besides their keyboards. Be careful where you plug it in, as the case isn't designed for cooling (I had mine near the ceiling, I have no air conditioning). Just based on how long my first one lasted, I will pick one of these new ones up. Very nice design and ease of use.

Become Your Own DJ!!!
Written by NN from Fenton

I purchased the AirPort Express a few days ago for the purpose of streaming music all over my house. I have to say that I am VERY pleased with the results. Not only was it easy to setup but it is also very functional. After a quick download of the Apple Remote app, I am now able to DJ my entire house all from my iPhone by selecting which speakers i want to play my music through. Guests can even voice their opinion and request songs (if they have an iPhone and the Apple Remote app) when playing music from the iTunes DJ playlist!!!

A Solid Piece of Equipment
Written by MR from Aurora
Aug 14, 2009
I've had this little white box for over a year and a half now and it's still working fine. Price aside, there are very few complaints I have making this a solid investment for the wireless network in my single bedroom apartment. Streaming music via itunes and surfing the net is simple to set up and rarely is maintenance required. The only problems I have encountered have been when the summer heat has caused it to seize up. My environment is frequently upwards of 35 C which causes it to stop working, but if you're not living in such a heated climate or if you have the A/C running you need not worry of any problems. I highly recommend this product.

2 months and TOAST!
Written by LC from Baton Rouge

This was a brilliant, useful product to send music to my classic two channel system with big Boston Acoustics window rattlers - living large, I thought! The thing went nuts and then gave up the ghost in two months; I expected better. Given the layout in my 18th century brick house it would be practical if the Airports had music capacity - we have four to cover the house and office and get around heavy brick walls and they're bombproof.
Probably good for dorms and traveling, but for some of us it's an irritating extra C note wasted. Well, two hundred now, had to go buy another one.27 of 56 people found this useful

I just purchased my second Airport Express so I can stream music all over my home. I use it to extend the range of my Airport Extreme and run everything on 2.4 N-draft mode.
Too bad it doesn't support the 5Ghz mode the Extreme is capable of.
Best thing about it is it also works with my AppleTv so I can stream music from the AppleTv without having any of my laptops on.
I have recommended this product to many of my friends and they have all been happy with the ease of setup and price and performance.

When they say "easy install", they are not kidding!
While I'm not "tech ignorant", I'm not really "tech saavy" either-this took me 10 minutes to set up. That's it. The install disk walks you through each phase of the setup. You can set up your own network and password protect it. It's really amazing.
It is so easy to use-I'm WiFi in less than a minute of turning on my Mac.
Thank you Apple for making this so user-friendly. I am an Apple fan for life!45 of 47 people found this useful
