    Excellent Product

Written by DH from Missouri City

Recently bought this product to replace my old wireless router. It is fast, easy to set up, and takes up very little space. The effective range of this product is much greater than the router it is replacing, and there is no lag between opening my laptop and internet connectivity (I have a MacBook). I was experiencing a wait of 2-3 minutes with my old router. I highly recommend this product.

It only took me 5 minutes from opening the box to have my existing network extended and my printer port up and ready to go. Great, easy to use product. Nine major apple products in my house and I haven't been disappointed with one of them.

Outstanding device and a must if you have a large home with wireless!

This is an outstanding product. I have a Time Capsule and the wireless works great but it is on the opposite side of my house from one of the main areas were I use my MacBook Pro. I set up the AirPort to extend my Time Capsule wireless network (check the "extend network" on the Time Capsule also) and it put my network signal in that area at top strength!

I now have another one and plugged my printer directly into it and now my entire network shares that printer using the wireless AirPort!

    Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!

We bought this yesterday with the Airport Extreme Base Station, and it worked flawlessly. Today i bought another one to hook up to our surround sound, so now we have the base station, and 2 expreses that act as extenders!

    Good to a point

The airport express worked fabulously for a few months and then it began to get unreliable. I will be on my laptop using the internet and BLAM! My internet shuts down. Not only that, but my airport shows that there is nothing wrong. THe green light is on, but my internet is gone. So i have to crawl through all of the wires under my desktop computer to unplug and replug the airport in until the green light finally turns on. This usually takes about twenty minutes.
Until this started happening it worked great and was reliable. Now... not so much.
    Be carful when buying.

At first to me it was a little confusing to set up but once i figured it out, it works like its suppose to. Other than my iMac, I have my macbook pro and my itouch running out of it with no problems. The internet works great. I bought two other wireless routers in the past with no luck with it working properly but this one works great.

    Perfect for College Dorms

    Written by DW from Hillsborough

    Nov 16, 2009

This is the perfect router for college students with many wireless devices. The Airport Express delivers exactly as promised with grab-and-go convenience. Currently, my roommate and I have two laptops, an ipod touch, iphone, printer, and speakers running off of this router, and it performs beautifully. If a wireless only router fulfills your needs, then this is the right one for you! It's even compact enough to take with me to a friend's room if we want to share their wired connection.

Technical Notes: This is a wireless-only router. If you need more than one ethernet port, then consider the Airport Extreme. The only sound that can be played through speakers connected to this router is through "Airtunes" within iTunes, and by default this is not password protected, so your neighbors can play their music through your speakers (I found this out the hard way).
IMPORTANT FOR WINDOWS USERS! If you want to print to a printer that is connected to this router, you must download Bonjour for Windows.

    iTunes dropouts

    Written by MV from Coupeville

    Nov 15, 2009

Works OK as a compact router. But I bought it because it also supposedly could receive streamed music from iTunes. And it does. Some of the time.

Search Apple discussions for iTunes dropouts. It is a problem that has affected hundreds of Express users for a long time, and Apple has done nothing about it. Ridiculous. If I am going to by an overpriced piece of technology because it has extra features, those extra features better work.

Just finished the set-up of the Airport Express and did it sitting in my La-Z-Boy!!! It was all done wirelessly and it took less than 10 minutes! I tried a Linksys router and had nothing but grief so took it back and decided to go with an Apple product. We have a MacBook Pro so it made sense. It works beautiful and internet is fast. I don't know why I didn't avoid the hassle and buy this in the first place!

Exactly what they say! 10min I had wireless on my MacBook Pro and in a couple of mins on my son's compac laptop. I took it down to the dock and it worked down there two albeit a bit slower but fast and steady!! Great product apple!

    Discouraged over set-up

    Written by KO from calgary

I read the reviews on how easy this was to set-up and after 3 hours I gave up.

The installation also buggered up my existing wireless internet through my wireless modem. I have resorted to plugging my MacBookPro with a ethernet cord. The first time in a few years.

The amber light keeps blinking. Referenced the booklet, but it went as far as to say follow onscreen instructions. Pretty vague! Tried it closer to the wireless modem. Didn't work. Tried new network and existing network all failed, not that the booklet referenced what a new network or existing network means.

Who knows it could be defective.

    Airtunes: bad; Internet: good

If you are looking for a wireless device, this might work great for you. If you are buying it to send music around your house, be advised: Airtunes is EXTREMELY buggy (hard to believe Apple sells it!). Any updates to your OS, iTunes, Airport Utility, personal finance software or Web browser might render it inoperative. Or it might work. You can't ever tel;l. It's so spotty that I'm looking for the "Made by Microsoft" label!

    1. This will extend any wireless network, does not need the Airport Base Station to extend the wireless coverage.

    2. AirTunes is great! If you are not using a Airport Base Station, you'll need to disable IPv6 on your network adapter (System Preferences > Advanced > Configure IPv6 > Off).

Overall, setup is fast and easy. Great product!

I just picked up an AirPort Express this weekend and in 10 minutes I had blazing wifi throughout the house. Going to pick up a second one soon so I can set up extra speakers in an additional room. If you're looking for a good home wifi setup and don't have 10+ systems running at one time, you can't go wrong with this product.

A True Gem in the WiFi World

Its sad that most people don't know the capabilities of this little beauty. I have two: one for travel and one at the house I spend most of my time at. This is the cheapest/easiest way to have a multiple room audio solution I know of. I have a PC at the bar in my basement and one of these set up to the stereo in the living room, it really gets parties going when you have two speaker systems pumping out the same songs in perfect sync. USB printer share works well, its easy to set up, great range, Draft N speed, small for easy travel, this thing is a must-have.

I would recommend using this in conjunction with an AirPort Extreme or other 4 port router. Most users I've had on the Express at once is 4. Sometimes having over 10 users in my house at one time I use a D-Link DIR655 Extreme N router as my main networking source - my server is wired as are quite a few other devices.

This product is just as advertized. The only mines is that it doesn't share HDD through the wireless' USB plug.
Other than that, it works well. I can access my wifi from everywhere in the house.

I now have two AirPort Express Base Stations, one with g and one with n technology (the g stays pegged at 54 with my n router). We got rid of our satellite radio because I can broadcast the radio function in iTunes, which has been great. It took a bit to get everything set up, but once they are working, they do fantastic. No more skips when the microwave or phone is in use! Very enjoyable with all the radio stations (as well as my music collection) in both the living room and the basement with my computer upstairs.
