    FINAL CUT

Written by MC from LAGUNA BEACH

    Nov 18, 2009

Ok, i have edited on final cut pro and final cut express. If u have not previously used final cut, dont expect to know how to use it when u first get it. Its really easy to use once u know the basics and if u dont know the basics it takes a while to teach yourself. So i would definitely recommend this product but if u r used to editing on something else like iMovie, just get ready for a few days with the manual.

FCE is great, only that you should know it doesn't support 24FPS.

    It just doesn't.

Great! Just no Flip Video Support

Written by NK from New Rochelle

    Jul 13, 2009

I bought this and I love it! But there is one flaw. That is that I have a Flip Mino and you cant import it via FCE you are gonna have to go into the DVIX folder on the Flip and then copy it to another folder than import it from there. You can import it from the camera as if it was on your hard drive but your flip has to be connected to edit.Over all I would say to buy it and if you have a flip Just do what did as described above use the DVIX folder.

Put in effort to get the rewards

Having changed from PC to Mac a few months ago, I had to decide which NLE software package I would use to edit my (mostly windsurf action / road trips) videos. On the PC I used Adobe Premiere Elements, which I found very user-friendly and provided sufficient possibilities for the stuff I was doing. Of course, this package is not available for Mac (only the Pro version, which I considered too expensive and probably too complex). Putting Windows on my Mac was no option for me, as you lose the possibility to share media in between different programs.

A lot of reviews of the FCE software were quite negative, which made me doubt to actually buy it, but as some reviewers recommended, I bought a proper training book (Diana Weyand, Apple Pro Training Series) when I decided to get FCE.

After I finished the book and it's exercises my conclusions is: What a great NLE software package is FCE! It offers so many more options and control over your editing and yes, it's not as intuitive as some other Apple programs, but this is professional grade stuff.

I highly recommend this to anyone who's made editing into a serious hobby / professionals on a budget and DO get some sort of training right at the start to avoid any frustrations.

    AMAZING!!!!

    Written by MH from Broomfield

    Jun 14, 2009

This product is amazing. I like iMovie 09, but I wanted a program that would give me more editing freedom. After a few hours of playing with the software, I have learned most of the basic features ... this is a VERY powerful program. If you liked iMovie HD, you will LOVE this software. Don't let the other negative reviews steer you away from purchasing this software. Most of the reviews are negative simply because the person could not figure out how to use the software. If you have a couple hours to spend looking at Apples online tutorials, you will easily get the hang of this great editing tool!

    Don't bother

    Written by AS from Perth

This would be great if it actually worked.
I bought it, installed it, and have had it spontaneously quit and perform unprogrammed and uninitiated edits a dozen times already. This is no exaggeration.
The program looks fantastic, but so far does not deliver any of the useful features and editing control I bought it for.
If you want to upgrade from imovie '09 wait for version 5 or go back to version 3.
I am most severely disappointed with apple for the first time ever.

Very powerful video editing software, Worth every penny!

    Written by JR from Williston

I was originally going to upgrade to imovie 09, but for about $100 more I chose to go with FCE. At first I thought, "what did I get myself into" it is a little discouraging at first. But once you get the basics down, you will learn very quick. It is a pro app in my opinion. You are only limited by your imagination. I used to use microsoft movie, and this blows it out of the water. Get it, you'll be glad you did in the long run. Cause you can grow into this software. make your videos look professional with FCE. Go out and get it.

I bought a macbook with final cut express 4 and it took me about 2 days to get used to it. I had been using Adobe Premeire Elements, but final cut works like a dream, it recognized my firewire the first time around. It is such a compatible interface, although if you have movie files from final cut pro the codec isn't the same, but other than that, I highly recommend this product for editors on a budget or for people who make good edits for youtube. Get IT!

Professional Looking, and Moderately Easy to use.

    Written by LY from Pinehurst

I go this just a couple of days ago, and I am already starting to get the hang of it. I've been reading some reviews saying it is too hard to use, and harder than imovie. Well, imovie is not for professional film editing. This program does take a bit of time to get the hang of, but after you do, you will love the way your movies look!

Steep learning curve ahead. You can make great movies with it. Software has some quirks. HD editing on a mac mini with firewire works very well. Program plays nice with resources. De-interlacing is a problem. Less then perfect with HDV. General advice, not for novices unless you are willing to invest time and effort.

My Partner in my Script-to-Screen Class is very adept at using Final Cut Pro. I like the program's flexible ability to help you edit and trim films in such a professional manner.
Of course, we can't afford Final Cut Pro, but I'm sure Final Cut Express works just as well with all the transition basics.

I'm not a film maker, but I learned a lot in my Script-to-Screen Class, and I love it and how you can make yourself an amateur movie maker by using Final Cut.

I say go for it. If you can't afford the $1200 Final Cut Pro, then it's worth getting the $199 for yourself, especially if you're a film student.

    FCE is great!

I am an event videographer. I had been using Adobe Premier Elements for years. Although I liked the program I had nothing but trouble with it for years. I recently upgraded my PC to a Vista machine with quad core processors, 4 gigs of ram and terabyte hardrive. I also purchased Premier Elements 7 thinking all this upgrading will solve my problems running Premier. Well if anything it made it worse. My PC constantly crashes while working on my videos. Vista stinks and Premier has it's own issues so the two combined makes for a hair pulling experience. For years I was thinking about buying a Mac to do my video work with Final Cut Express. I had enough of Vista and Premier and purchased a 24" iMac. To make this story a short one I'll just say I love my new iMac and I love Final Cut Express 4. It is very similar to Premier, but better, so learning how to use hasn't been that difficult. But the best part is that I have had a total of zero PC crashes while working with multiple videos at one time. Buy FCE and take the time to learn how to use it and you won't be dissapointed.

I'm a bit ticked at the people that gave this negative reviews. This product will pay for itself in less than a day. After that I can double my wages and my clients will never know the difference. I upgraded from iMovie '09. It's the ability to edit the audio in the video that is saving me so much time. I spent two days learning iMovie, and it just didn't do it. After watching the video tutorials and an hour in Final Cut Express, I'm literally twice as fast. That's no stretch, my time clock doesn't lie.

I was a Premiere user and i find this Final cut program annoying and confusing.. I will really have to persevere with it to get ease of use and speed up. I realize that I need to spend allot of time with it for that to happen. If you are a beginner in film editing i wouldn't recommend this program.

    Too hard to use

    Written by JS

    Feb 27, 2009

After using iMovie HD (my favorite) and iMovie 08/09 (useless dumbed down versions of the full feature iMovie HD), I decided to try Final Cut Express. Unfortunately, I find this is too difficult to use, and was told by Apple that it is recommended that users must take a class (which are not cheap). This sort of defeats the user-friendly reputation and experiences I have had with Apple over the years.

My advice is, if you are a professional videographer or have a background in video, this software is probably fine. If you are an amateur, the learning curve will be fairly long, and require formal training. I am very disappointed in this product (which is rare, as most Apple products are of the highest standards, intuitive, and easy to use).

This program is the little brother of Final Cut Pro.
If you cant afford FCP, then go for FCE. Downpoint of all of the FC products are that they are EXTREMELY hard to handle if your new to it. Making videos takes a long time, but the outcome is usually exceptional, and thats what counts!
