    Take it off the market!

    Judging by the echoes in these reviews of my own experience with this mouse I think it is time for Apple to admit they have a less-than-acceptable product here and should do a favor for all of us who prefer a wired mouse to the wireless and pull this one off the market and design and build a better mouse (trap, unnecessary).

    Smashed Mine Against A Wall

    this mouse is a total piece of garbage. The scroll ball inevitably gets gunked up and is not possible to clean. Unofficially, you can pry the mouse open and clean it, but you void your warranty and stand a good chance of destroying the mouse in the process.

    Way to make me pay $75 for the "magic" mouse after wasting $55 on this one.

    Junk!

    Scroll ball not scrolling anymore... no way to take it out or clean it. It scrolls up fine, but not down.

    disposable mouse that works well for few months

    used it for few months, the ball stopped working, after a clean up it was good for few weeks, then i had to clean it again every once in a while, finally it stopped scrolling in one direction no matter how much cleaning i did,
    save your money, mouse design is not apples strong suit

    Not worth the price

    While this mouse does have a few interesting ideas in button functionality, it's a pain to actually use for any extended period and has several other glaring flaws. The cord is much too short, the scroll ball is difficult to properly use in any extent, and any kind of extended use makes the fingers hurt quite a bit because of how small and poorly shaped it is. The optical LED sensitivity leaves quite a lot to be desired, and accuracy takes a nosedive at anything about the default, extremely slow setting. While I appreciate the attempts at innovation, it's punishing for any power user and hardly worth the $50 price tag.

    I like the wired mouse. Needs no batteries. I like the scroll ball. It scrolls horizontally beside vertically.

    cleans up GREAT!

    Lately, I've had increasing trouble with the track ball on my (original) three-year old mouse. After reading suggestions here, I cleaned it first with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser, then with rubbing alcohol on a clean cloth. Afterwards, I rolled it around on a clean sheet of paper. Voila! It works like new! No need to spend $50 on a new device; this one is back to like-new condition!

    Very good mouse, if you keep it clean

    The track ball is prone to pet hair and gummy hands. Take a clean sheet of paper, roll the mouse upside down back and forth on the track ball, to clean it. Do this on a daily basis and the mouse will last a half dozen years with good results. My mouse of choice.

    A Mr. Clean Magic Eraser...

    ...works best to clean the scroll ball. Using scissors, cut off a small piece of the Magic Eraser (because you don't need to waste an entire one). Dampen it, lay it on a flat sturdy surface and then turn the Apple Mouse upside down and roll the scroll ball along the Magic Eraser horizontally and then vertically. Then use a paper towel or a lint free cloth to dry it. I did this with the wireless version and it worked great. I gave it four stars because it's a really good mouse, wired or wireless. It would have been five stars if the scroll ball had been a touch sensor instead. Then, like optical mice, they wouldn't need to be cleaned on a regular basis.

    Not a good accessory for the MacBook Pro

    If you're a right handed person this is not the mouse for you. The cord is too short and with the usb ports on the left side of the computer you have no maneuver room.

    disposable!

    Ok, I love this mouse—when it's new. Great feel and sensitivity, aesthetics, etc. BUT, I have to buy a new one every 3 months. As others have noticed, the scroll ball gums up and the thing becomes useless, as there is no way to open it up without a hammer. And as if this weren't bad enough, usually before its inevitable demise the mouse begins this rapid ghost clicking thing. Without me pressing anything it spaz-clicks over items I'm working on. click-click-click-click! screws up my work!

    Thus far my solution has been (to Apple's delight) to buy a new mouse every few months but this is ridiculous for obvious reasons. Can someone either slap Apple or tell me a good alternative to their mouse? Or just do both?

    I love this mouse! Don't know what everyone's problem is

    I love this mouse, I'm addicted to using the buttons for expose (desktop, and all windows). I'm having a hard time wanting to switch to the new magic mouse or trackpad.

    All you have to do to keep the scroll ball working well is get the mac cleaning cloth, turn it upside down and rub back and forth on the scroll ball to loosen any dirt/dust.

    Scroll ball doesn't work!

    I'm on my second mouse. Both had the same problem after a month: The scroll ball doesn't work. I've had this one for a couple years now and I've become so used to scrolling manually on everything. Really slows down my internet browsing, and design shortcuts in Adobe products.

    Scroll ball

    I got this mice with my iMac 20 inch late 2009. The mice worked pretty well in the beginning. After a couple months the scroll ball gets stuck and doesnt scroll well. Cleaned it but doesnt work properly anymore. I wont recomend this mice.

    After 4 years... Great! (And it works with Linux)

    Works as advertised- great with my iMac. The assignable side buttons are a real timesaver if you set them as "Show all Windows"
    Also works very well on my IBM laptops running Ubuntu Linux.
    Wish the cable was a few inches longer, as all of the USB ports on my laptop are on the left side or back. I can use the Apple Mouse left handed just as well as right handed though.

    The only issues I've had is after 4 years of (constant) use are the cable wearing at the USB plug, and the scroll ball becomming so gummed up that I could only scroll up and left. After dissasembly and cleaning (not easy, BTW) scrolling works just fine again.

    I wish that Apple would make a BlueTooth version of this mouse, rather than just the BT magic mouse...

    scrollball makes it a nuisance to use

    i have had this mouse for 1 month, the scrollball stopped functioning after a week. it helps when you roll it over your shirt or pullover, but be prepared to do this every couple hours... a nice mouse with good click feel becomes a complete nuisance with this frequent problem. i would not buy it again and cannot recommend it.
