    Issues with the scroll ball

    • Written by from Indianapolis

The scroll ball works great when it works, but it is very unreliable.

    Flimsy, overpriced junk

    • Written by from Friday Harbor

The scroll ball worked for about a month. For the price, this should win some sort of award for the lowest possible value for money.

    not very mighty

    • Written by from Darlington

this is only subjected to home use the scroll ball stopped working properly after 3 months. Apple replaced it. After 6 months the scroll ball started playing up - now its broken again. Unfortunately, its style over durability. Larger scroll ball required

Worst Apple Product (From an Apple Specialist)

    • Written by from Lima

I work at an Apple Reseller, and in my experience, this is by far the worst Apple product ever. I have used several through years and none has worked good enough. On our store, this is the ONLY product I just CAN'T recommend, and its painful, since I love everything Apple. Do yourself a favor and don't invest on this product.

    I'd rather have real mice!

    • Written by from Beckenham

This is THE most irritating product I've ever used. It's so frustrating, when this product is working well - it works like a dream, but when it's working badly - you want to throw it out of the window. The little scroll wheel simply stops working when it's dirty. (and I'm not talking about extreme dirt - I'm in a very clean design studio with clean hands!).
Seems as though apple have neglected the function for the style in this product, and i am a huge mac fan ordinarily. Maybe it's more frustrating because when it works well, it's great.
    Either way, it's simply unforgivable.
Apple tried to re-invent the 'scroll' wheel that's been doing fine for a decade! Please sort this issue. Either dump the little ball, or give us a way to clean it. Until then, I'd stay well away!

    Too short

    • Written by from alskkd

This mouse is nice and all, but the cord is ridiculously short. You'll have to have an extension if you want to use it on the Macbook Pro. I guess Apple is trying to save copper and cut an extra foot off the cable. Get the wireless model instead and save yourself the trouble of an extension.

    Do Not Buy

    • Written by from cincinnati

Looks good and it's a cool design. But you cannot clean the "Innovative Scroll Ball and button" without destroying the mouse. The "Force-sensing side buttons" click constantly when you do not want them to. I had to disable them. Almost any mouse is probably better than this. I just trashed mine and am using a seven year old Microsoft mouse.

    Why?

    • Written by from Toronto

    Dear Apple,

While a good product in some aspects, the Mighty Mouse fails in its most important function as a MOUSE: it fails to scroll vertically (!!!!!!!!!)

How did this product pass user-testing? Why are you not improving this product already? How can you include a failed product as a standard item shipped with most iMacs and MacPros?

I am not sure you realize this product is a HUGE INCONVENIENCE for most users.

Mouse needs to be replaced after 8 months

    • Written by from Holly

Boy am I glad the Apple Store Genius recommend I keep my old Apple Pro Mouse when I got my new iMac. The Mighty Mouse that came with my new computer has failed after only 8 months of use. The cord is fraying and splitting where it leaves the front of the mouse (and I don't have animals so there is no possibility of something chewing it). Not to mention the countless problems I have with it sometimes being too responsive, sometimes being unresponsive and sometimes moving clear across the screen on it's own.

WORST APPLE PRODUCT I HAVE EVER OWNED.

    Might mouse STINKS!

    • Written by from san diego

This is my second mighty mouse, and like all negative posts, the track ball stopped working after several months, both of them! I will not be buying another until Apple takes care of this issue. It is, obviously, as serious engineering FLAW! THE MIGHTY MOUSE STINKS!

    Don't bother

    • Written by from Dulles

Just like everyone else here, the scroll ball stopped working properly. At least ours lasted awhile (just until the warranty expired) and then stopped scrolling down. And as much as you think, "...aw, no big deal, I can live with it." It really is a pain. I thought it was a fluke and was going to get another one but I'm glad I looked here first and saw these reviews!! I'm not wasting my money and will get a different one and I hope anyone else will do the same.

    Not useful, plain and simple

    • Written by from Providence

Apple mighty mouse is a money trap. I only used it because it came with my iMac and I had convinced myself that certain difficulties I was having with it was due to fact that I was simply not used to using it. After approximately 8 months, I had to use an ordinary mouse for some reason and it felt like heaven.

Not useful with a lot of games, non-ergonomic design, difficult or impossible to clean the ball, touch sensitivity and response time is simply terrible. The seemingly valuable features (such as 4-direction wheel, side buttons of expose etc) or not irreplaceable as one would think.

In short, go for a Logitech or Razer. For this very same price, you will not believe what you will be getting

    The scroll ball is horrible!

    • Written by from Denver

I've used Macs since the Plus, but the Mighty Mouse is the first Apple product that I truly HATE. Within a month of purchase the scroll ball was only scrolling in one direction. Compressed air, while hard to control, cleaned it. But it is constantly going back to the dirty erratic performance. Now that is no longer a reliable fix. Friends have tried turning it upside down on a cloth with rubbing alcohol, with water, dry - doesn't help! This product is so poorly engineered. Lot's of "fabulous" features that few people use, but the scroll ball is inherently bad. Apple: YOU NEED TO FIX THIS PRODUCT!

I've had a few, Not "Apple" Quality

    • Written by from Chicago

Actually, its a great mouse, especially (of course) with Mac OSX - the problem is build quality. Any mouse I've purchased form logitech at half the price has been bullet-proof and lasted for years. With this mouse, I've been through a few.
First, my wireless mighty mouse completely died after about 7 months. So, because of the cost, I went to the wired mouse, and that one died after about 8 months (first the scroll ball and then two days later the tracking started fritzing).
Tried carefully cleaning etc but no love.
For now I'm using a $5 dell mouse and going to shop around for a very OSX friendly alternative to apple.

Didn't work after 10 seconds of use

    • Written by from Newmarket

the mighty mouse is terrible. I love the design... but the scroll ball doesn't work. I bought a new iMac and when I plugged in the mighty mouse the ball only scrolled down not up. After a few minutes of trying to fix it I went back to return it and get a new one. 10 seconds later, ball stops working.

    Horrible!

    • Written by from Vineyard Haven

Sorry folks - but cleaning it doesn't work. Alcohol, WD-40, lint-free cloth, rolling upside down on bond paper... I've tried all the suggestions but the scroll ball is irreversibly non-functional. Another $49 for more of the same frustration isn't worth it to me. Save your money and vote with your dollars for a NON-Mighty (although functional) Mouse from any company OTHER THAN Apple. I can't believe Apple hasn't re-designed and re-issued this product - it's shameful.

this thing is not worth it...

    • Written by

ive had this one and the wireless one in hopes that one of them would be worth the 50 or 60 bucks i spent on them, and they dont last at all, i use my macbook every day and to have a mouse is very handy cause no one wants to use the trackpad all the time, but this is not the mouse to have or to get to replace the track pad its way more annoying then the trackpad in every way its slow and stops working after a few hours of cleaning it sometimes it just doesnt live up to what were all used to, apple let me down on this product :(

Extremely poor quality - very unlike Apple

    • Written by from New York

Save your money and buy a real mouse from Logitech. The scroll ball in this mouse is so fragile and sensitive. I've had it for less than two months and the thing has stopped working. I can't scroll up anymore - an extreme annoyance. Now I've got to hike up to the Apple store to see if they can fix it or return it. Apple needs to do better quality testing.

After normal use the scroll ball stops functioning even with regular cleaning with provided cloth.
