Has this product been shelved yet? It's quite telling when Apple employees even tell me not to buy it. The big problem, as you've read, is the scroll wheel. Any microscopic debris that gets into the wheel renders it ineffective. And worthless as a mouse. Right now it's sitting on my shelf as I used an old PC mouse until I got the Magic Mouse. Spend the extra money for that - yeah, it has battery life problems but it's at least functional.

I am on my 2nd mouse in 1 1/2 yr of having my computer. The scroll button does not always work. There is no making sense out of when it will decide to work or not.

Am I the only person who really likes this mouse?

I understand that there are some trackball issues, but if you are a clean person and work in a clean office, then dirt and grime will not build up inside the trackball area, and if it does it can be cleaned with an alcohol prep pad easily.

Everything else about this mouse is amazing, especially the way it works with Exposé & Spaces. The "center mouse button, right-click button, and side squeeze buttons" are features not available on the Magic Trackpad. Those features make it more powerful. It is also much easier to control and more versatile than the Magic Trackpad in terms of navigating the Mac OS.

I own the Magic Trackpad, and it sits on the corner of my desk unused, unless I want to do mindless web browsing for fun.

The Apple Mouse is for serious work and productivity and won't let you down. It's a classic.

This mac device is NOT dependable after three months of use. The scroll ball does NOT operate properly. For a company of Brand Image and Quality it is surprising that this one necessary piece for a home computer fails.

Simply put: BITE ME!

This is a fantastically designed mouse. Potentially, this mouse operates like a dream. I purchased the magic mouse and got rid of it because my macpro had to be within 20 inches for it to work properly so I went back to this mouse. It worked for a short time until the ball got dirty. Then I had about a month of intermittent function. After that month the mouse was useless so I ponies up the $50 for another one. Now THIS ONE is going bad on me. I wouldn't be so upset it's just $50 is no joke! That's alot of money for a freaking mouse Apple. And I do not keep a dirty workplace. REGULAR wear gives this mouse a 1 year maximum shelf life. Terrible.

The scroll ball is intermittent at best. It often only works in one direction and sometimes not at all. i'd get a magic mouse if it came in a wired version, but the one i have on my other computer has its batteries die every few months, often just when you don't have any spares on hand.

i thought that i would revisit the apple mouse after 5 years. nothing has changed!
i had the wireless first and that was horrible..
now the cord on the non-wireless is so short - it doesn't reach around to the right side of my macbook? what moron designed this?
i mean really - didn't you test the length?

My college has multiple Mac labs that have around 20 iMacs per lab. Each of these iMacs use this horrible mouse. It's like winning the lottery to find a mouse with a scroll ball that works properly.

Not only is the scroll (or lack thereof) frustrating, but the buttons on the side are too sensitive. If you have large hands or a tight grip, you will keep pushing those without meaning to. I've seen this happen to many people many times.

Here's another problem: The cord is far to short. When using on the iMac, you have a limited area of where your hand can go. When using on a Macbook Pro (with USB ports on the left), a right-handed person doesn't have the cord length to use the mouse.

And another: The bottom gets really gross and may scratch up the surface it's on. It's like a dirt magnet.

All in all, when I'm at my college, I prefer to work on my Macbook Pro simply because the trackpad is amazing, and the Apple Mouse belongs in the trash. I've ordered an iMac for myself, and you better believe I chose the Magic Trackpad...


I do not own one of these (nor do I ever intend on owning one).

The 1st one that came with my iMac lasted 8-9 months before it started being difficult, scrolling problems. Only much later after much frustration did I search about it to find all kinds of bad comments. I bought a new one that lasted a few months, replaced under warranty, that lasted about the same time & replaced. Finally after another 6 months when it started going bad, I just replaced it with a LogiTec that has been fine. It's clear that this was a poorly designed piece of equipment that should have been recalled and replaced with a non-defective mouse. It doesn't deserve a 1 star rating and you can't do your own service on this piece of junk.

This mouse seem to work sometimes just fine but most of the time at least for me its laggy and the scroll doesn't work that good at all. Put your money on a better mouse!
