    Disappointing compared to the competition

    • Written by from Littlehampton

I'm usually a fan of most things Apple, but I'm afraid I don't get on with the Mighty Mouse. Firstly, it looks like a bar of soap. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but the shape and size also makes it uncomfortable for those of us with big hands. Secondly, the scroll ball wears out very quickly - on mine I can no longer scroll down web pages etc. Thirdly, the right/left button action is imprecise compared to a true 2 button mouse. Fourthly, the side buttons are awkward to use to bring up Dashboard. And lastly, it is very overpriced for what is just a wired optical mouse.

I will be interested to see what the Mk2 version looks like!

Mr. Clean fixed my bad mouse

    • Written by from Marietta

My roll ball has not worked for months. I was frustrated and was gonna buy a Logitech since this is my third Mac mouse that has developed the same problem. I use a slightly damp Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Many rolls of the ball on the magic eraser with slight down pressure on the ball and it started to work. I then rolled it vigorously on a clean piece of paper, then the eraser then the paper again. It now once again works like new.

I love the mouse when it works and hate it when it doesn't, so I gave it a pretty low rating, but maybe you can fix yours as well and the rating might increase.

    Beware of the trackball!

    • Written by from PHOENIX

This is a beautiful mouse! But keep this in mind, While it may look like a brilliant mouse, consider the following:
    - The sensors on the side that usually enable expose spaz out often
    - ANY dirt that gets under the trackball, you might as well buy a new one rather than trying to fix it.
    - $49.99 to replace the mouse (especially if your trackball fails.
    - (Have I mentioned the trackball ?)

The Bluetooth wireless version of this mouse lasts better than the wired version. Food For thought.

If it only worked all the time

    • Written by from Colorado Springs

Since everything is still under warranty I will keep replacing it. I have had my system a little over a year and I am on my 4th mouse already. The previous 3 stopped scrolling, and none of the little tricks I read about did anything to fix the problem. I have had no problem with Apple in getting a replacement. I hope they realize the scroll ball is susceptible to failure and are developing a more suitable replacement.

After a few months the wheel wont work

I really enjoyed using this mouse since i first bought my laptop but just in a few months the little ball wouldn't catch the little rail to scroll down or up.

Apple Wireless Mouse needs an overhaul

    • Written by from DENHAM SPRINGS

I've had this mouse for about 9 months now. At first, it worked great. I've cleaned the scroll wheel as per apple instructions. I wash my hands regularly when working at the laptop to try and remove any oils or other debris from my fingers. It's no use. If there was a way to take it apart and clean it properly, might be a good investment. The buttons work great, no problem there, just the scroll ball. Too much trouble. I'll see if MS or Logitech makes something dependable. You would think that with the technological resources at Apples disposable, that their engineers could fix this "little thing".

Ok, but keeps not scrolling down

    • Written by from Georgetown

My mouse at work stopped scrolling down after about 3 weeks of use. I switched it with a mouse from our older mac and that one just stopped scrolling down. The first one now appears to be working, but I never cleaned it. So I'm not sure if cleaning will help, but this has never happened with my logitech optical mouse.

Also, scroll is way to quick, even when I modify my device settings on the mac it still scrolls way to quick for the proofing work I need to do.

    Not a great mouse.

    • Written by from New Braunfels

My biggest headache is the scroll ball. After a month of working, it stopped working. I think it is the dirt on our fingers. I have to hit it on my hand and hope that it breaks free any dirt inside. So far I have had to do this about once a month... starting to bother me. I may ditch this and get the newer super mouse.

    The scroll ball problem

    • Written by from San Diego

I had the same problem as everyone else. I didn't realize it was a common problem and thought my mouse was broken. Took it to the iStore and they cleaned it. Brought it home and within a day and it was broken again. Now for the DH (and that isn't dear husband) who said wash your hands etc. there is no way the scroll ball would get crapped up in a day or two. I didn't have any rubbing alcohol handy as I read all the reviews and decided that vodka ought to work ...and it did. I guess it gives me another reason to keep vodka in the house (like I needed one!).

    Another mouse with fleas

    • Written by from Littleton

This mouse has some good features, but overall it stinks. The right click button is impossibly unreliable for me. It drives me crazy. Also, the mouse is a bit too flat and small. Clicking and holding while lifting and repositioning the mouse is also difficult.

When the ball killed the mouse!!!

    • Written by from San Fernando

As many of the reviewers on this page, I must agree that this mouse was a very nice mouse. It was slick and very nice to play with and did many tricks that other mice didn't do. Unfortunately, with time, this mouse gets sick and tired of doing tricks with the scroll ball. The ball gets dirty, and there is no easy way to clean it, and the mouse won't be attracted to play with it any more. You will get mad at the mouse and probably kill it for not playing with the ball... and that is the end of the story.

    It's just the pits.

    • Written by from Eugene

This mouse has cool aspects to it, but the scroll ball is completely useless after a few months. You can clean it a little, but not very well, and the amount of time the cleanings work for get smaller and smaller until they just disappear. The mighty mouse scroll ball is hands down, my biggest complaint about apple.

    disappointment

    • Written by from Buffalo

This mouse came with my IMac. Honestly it is so agravating that the mouse ball is always sticking, only scroling down or up ONLY. I like the feel of the mouse, the way it works over all is good but the ball sticks!

Works best left in its little plastic bag

    • Written by from MISSISSAUGA

As other reviewers have said, the scrollball is the main Achilles Heel of this product. It gums-up and requires cleaning almost daily in active use. It frustrated me to the point of actual physical abuse. Unfortunately, whacking the Mighty Mouse causes it to develop more problems so is not recommended.

But in addition to the scrollball issues, the mouse is extremely sensitive to how you hold it. It can easily confuse a left-click for a right-click and vice-versa. More frustration! And while attempting to scroll with the scrollball it will very happily register a random right or left-click too. More whacking ensues ...

I'm off to get a Kensington mouse tonight because I'm developing a tick and scaring the pets by loudly swearing while trying to deal with all the annoyances of this thing. Life is too short -- just leave it in the little plastic bag it came in if you got one with an iMac. It works best that way.

Was great until the scroll ball gave out

    • Written by from Markham

When i first got this mouse i wondered how i ever lived without it, that was until after several months the scroll ball started acting up - not scrolling in certain directions. After several cleans - q Tips, rubbing it on paper, jeans, using alcohol, etc. it always ended up crapping out again and this time no amount of cleaning was going to make it work again. My mighty mouse lasted a whole 1 year! It was great while it lasted but i don't want to go through that again so I'm on the search for a better mouse.

    scrolling problem

    • Written by from homosassa springs

I have had my second mouse in 8 months and will not have another.
Both times the mouse failed to scroll......up or down. I have cleaned
and babied it for the last time. I feel that Apple is aware of this problem
and is avoiding the issue. I recently purchased a logitech at my own expense
from the Apple store to put an end to the aggravation of this badly designed
product. Shame on Apple for not standing up this.

    Great idea, poor reliability

    • Written by from Austin

Functionally, this mouse is an excellent idea (the right/left sense is cool, the side "squeeze" button I use for expose, top click I use for dashboard, and the scroll up/down/left/right is great).

However, two problems: it is too easy to improperly right click.....often it senses a left click or top click....but maybe that's me.

Inexcusable: After a few months or so, the scroll wheel doesn't work. What is most disappointing is it is a known issue, for many months and Apple has not corrected or changed the mouse. For $15 I can see it, but $50? and more for the wireless version. Boo! Don't buy one!

    Needs Work

    • Written by from Providence

This mouse had all the right ideas, but it definitely has some flaws. After 6 months of light use my roller ball died, like everyone else. The buttons on the sides also vary in sensitivity. Some days they click when I barely touch them, its very irritating because the button clicks at random times as I work. Other days I have no problems at all with the side buttons. If Apple could work all the bugs out of this product and make it reliable, I would be very excited about it, I love Apple products.

    Not worth the price

    • Written by from Boise

While this mouse does have a few interesting ideas in button functionality, it's a pain to actually use for any extended period and has several other glaring flaws. The cord is much too short, the scroll ball is difficult to properly use in any extent, and any kind of extended use makes the fingers hurt quite a bit because of how small and poorly shaped it is. The optical LED sensitivity leaves quite a lot to be desired, and accuracy takes a nosedive at anything about the default, extremely slow setting. While I appreciate the attempts at innovation, it's punishing for any power user and hardly worth the $50 price tag.

Ball Does Not Work After a Few Months

    • Written by from Allentown

I have gone through two of these. Works great out of the box but after a few months, the track ball only seems to work in one direction (usually up). Not at all happy with this product, apple should discontinue and have only the Bluetooth/wireless mouse available for purchase.
