    Simple Mouse gone Bad

    • Written by from FLUSHING

I purposefully opted for the wired Apple Mouse. I didn't want to deal with batteries or the sort, and I don't have any fancy wireless requirements for my iMac. Unfortunately the scroll ball doesn't scroll up anymore. I read that a simple Q-tip and rubbing alcohol does the trick - but I don't want to do that every few weeks (or months). Looking back I would've opted for the wireless (not that I know if its scroll bar works well or not), but overall - just a regular mouse whose balls are messed up. Yeah I said it.

    Scroll Ball Fail

    • Written by from New Kensington

I like the 360 degree scroll ball but it always stops working on the downward scroll. Third mouse to do this. The buttons on the side seem like a nice feature but they always get in the way more then they are useful. The right click is unreliable. Works about half the time.

    Flawed design

    • Written by from Wellesley

In typical Apple fashion the product is overpriced, over-designed and under-engineered. Scroll ball gets dirty and does not work. When set up with right click enabled the mouse has a hard time determining whether your click is right or left. Works fine for a few months then becomes a pain.

    Works wonderfully...until it doesn't

    COMPUTER USE: Above Average

All my files were Mac when I moved to Texas over 10 years ago. My new district had NO support for Macs, so I was forced to become a Windows user. Recently, I have switched back to Mac and never looked back.

We use our Mac across many applications and I absolutely LOVED the mouse. It worked like a charm and felt so good. Pinpoint accuracy and smart clicking even though there is only one surface. The scroll was absolutely WONDERFUL. I could scroll -->sideways without having to leave my documents, pictures or projects - absolutely hate that in Word documents - and could also go 360°.

So why the bad rating? It's been dirty before, cleaned and worked, but 9 months later, after cleaning it using paper, turning it upside down, even tape to catch lint (as recommended in other reviews) my mouse will NOT scroll down and therefore it is useless. Avoid the headache, INVEST in either the Smart Mouse or the Trackpad for only $20 more. Knowing this, Mac should fix this problem.

    Scroll Ball Short Life

    • Written by from Haymarket

Have had 2 mouses in the past 2 years because after a few months the scroll ball stops working. With averge use (i.e. no excessive or rough handling) and not being used by a young child, it just stops working. The rest of the mouse works great but considering most web pages are longer than a screen and requires scrolling up/down, it's very frustrating to have to use the scroll bar on the browser. Considering the Apple mouse isn't cheap, I wish Apple would fix the issue or at least offer free replacement after repeated breakdowns.

    Apple Mouse

    • Written by from Bismarck

I've had my mac for about 3 years. The mouse started acting up about 1 yr ago. The button on top was not working properly. It helped to roll it on a piece of paper, which was a tip suggested on line, but eventually this didn't help. I'm not impressed with this apple product. When you buy Apple, I'd like to think you'd get better quality, especially for the price.

    Love the mouse-hate the scrollball

    • Written by from Hampton

I love this mouse for one reason, it's ergonomically perfect for my hand and I don't have carpal tunnel symptoms anymore after using this mouse for 7 months. But that's the only reason I gave it two stars. I have been having trouble with the scrollball since within about a month of owning it and it's a real pain when you can't get the ball to work. I do work on my computer that requires a scrollball to save time and my hand and this mouse just isn't cutting it! I wish they'd have a recall on these and replace it with one that works well for the life of the mouse.

ergonomics: not & scroll ball: breaks

    • Written by from San Francisco

I gave this 2 instead of 1 start because this is the first Apple mouse that I actually like, if I didn't have to replace it 3 times in one year! I have tried other brands that were actually ergonomic and they don't always work with my computer. Other than the ball breaking way too quickly, the Apple mouse always interfaces. Apple, I know style is extremely important to you and me too, but when are you going to issue a mouse and keyboard for those of us who actually have to work them for a living?

    Avoid avoid avoid!!

    • Written by from Coventry

It is a sleek mouse with a comfortable design but incredibly unreliable. Not only does it stutter on many surfaces (the cursor jumps across the screen), the underside is also incredibly prone to scratches.

Worst of all, the scroll wheel. It stops working oh so often. Before anyone points out user fault, I have NEVER dropped or hit the mouse against anything hard. The wheel just stops working and refuses to scroll in one or more direction, after 'persuasive methods' it comes back.

    Great concept, terrible performance

    • Written by from Western Springs

what frustrates me so much about this mouse is how much I love the way it is DESIGNED to work, but I hate the way it DOESN'T work. I do a lot of audio editing and the 360 degree scroller is WONDERFUL when it works. But after one year it now malfunctions so much I've had to get a replacement (and I'm not dropping another $50 just to have the same problem come up again). Better to just get a cheap mouse and supplement it with a Contour Shuttle Xpress (I love that thing)

    Not so Mighty Mouse

    • Written by from Calgary

It looks good, but that's about it. Track ball often stops working after a couple months of use, probably dirt clogs it up. The slim profile is brutal for power users and your wrist will cramp up. The right click feature is a pain and you will often click it without intention, better to use as a one button mouse. I like my mighty mouse beside my mac because it matches the keyboard, but truthfully it's a real let down as a production tool. This is one apple product that you will want to replace.

Logitech or even Microsoft mice better

    • Written by from New York

These things break all the time. Most recently, my "left" button lost it's ability to hold (i.e. while pushing down, the OS would think I had released the button after about 3-4 seconds).

It was very good for a while, but then it got dirty very easily. Easy, but annoying to clean. Something got in the scroll ball, though, so now I can't scroll down....

    Surface Issue

    • Written by from Aliso Viejo

The roller ball is cool yet wondering when it will deliver problems like most have reported. My issue is it won't work on my desk! I have to lay a piece of paper down to get any free-flow movement of the mouse on my computer screen.
Same surface feel as the Apple store surface where the computers are displayed. And it worked at my computer consultants house on her dining table. Lame!
Apple should offer credit to purchase another mouse!

    No shelf life...

    • Written by from Mississauga

My mouse is about 2 years old, and the scroll ball has officially died. I've been cleaning the mouse religiously, even taking care to clean the ball with a q-tip, but I guess it didn't make a difference. As other reviewers have mentioned, once dust/dirt gets inside the scroll ball area, it's doomed.

    Good Idea......Too Bad

    • Written by from Ashland

I write this after my 4th mouse. If the rollerball could be cleaned then this would be an awesome mouse! It never fails, after 3-4 months the rollerball just stops working.
