    Good as new!

    • Written by from Sedona

After having given up on the MM months ago in annoyance and frustration, because I was unable to unclog the track ball, I just happened to read today the ingenious solution mentioned by RL:

"If your wheel does clog up try this: Put a blank sheet of paper on a hard and smooth surface. Then roll the mouse upside down on it for 60 seconds. Voilà! As good as new."

This totally worked for me. In other words, the original track ball function can be easily restored WITHOUT taking everything apart or buying a new new mouse. APPLE SHOULD HIGHLIGHT THIS SIMPLE AND ELEGANT SOLUTION TO A ANNOYING PROBLEM IN RED LETTERS, AND READERS SHOULD CONTINUE PASSING IT ON. Give the solution a try and you may be able to enjoy once more the entire range of scrolling functions you might happened to miss. I was overjoyed to have recouped my $50 investment in this useful device.

The reason for the 4 star review is that the right-click remains temperamental and doesn't always work on the first try. Nevertheless, I'm delighted to be able to use the MM again full time and happy to enjoy its unique features. It's the fastest mouse for internet scrolling and for iTunes. The ability to scroll horizontally and see everything on my iTunes view list is a great convenience and time-saver. --HP

    Using it on a PC

    • Written by

    Good:
    Great design
    Compatibility with Windows XP/Vista
    Scroll Ball

    Bad:
    Short cable
Not able to program side buttons in Windows
    Price

    Overall:
This mouse is a really nice upgrade from a Microsoft mouse that was so 2002. I bought it with the (sort of) matching aluminum keyboard. As with most Apple products, I was able to use this within three minutes of opening the nicely designed box. The mouse is so durable that it withstanded about three weeks of frustration and being slammed on the desk so hard due to common problems in Windows XP. This is such a great mouse and I look foward to using it in everyday life.

nearly perfect but not quite there yet!

    • Written by from FERRYHILL

I was ready to to give this 5 stars but its not the perfect mouse i think it has great potential the little things i find wrong with this mouse are the scroll ball sometimes sticks and the secondary can sometimes be a bit of a pain but i think the squeeze buttons on the side are great and the mouse does feel great in the hand and is feather light which is a big plus as some mice feel like your holding a brick. As usual the ascetics of the product are great it really does shout apple style.

    Love Functionality But Needs Work

    • Written by

The Mighty Mouse has excellent features such as Exposé buttons, no top buttons, and the center button placed under the ball. Most of these things work great all the time, BUT, I have had problems with the secondary button, Exposé, and every once and a while the scroll ball seems to get "jammed" and I can't scroll down. The problem with the Exposé buttons is that they seem to go on the fritz when you have a lot of windows open. The last problem is the secondary or Right-click button, as soon as I discovered it (I was a PC user previous to my iMac) I started using it. Of course all good things must come to an end, but in 5 DAYS. It just stopped working, but if you didn't know this, you can still bring up the option pane (COPY,PASTE, etc..) by holding CONTROL and pressing the primary button. I have owned this product for 2 1/2 months.

Oh woe! How picky you all are!

    • Written by from Guelph

    Addressing Complaints:
I bought my Mighty Mouse with my 20" iMac about 4 months ago. Honest to say, its a beautiful thing. Many complain of the scroll ball's failure. Well four months of my, my parent's and my sibling's use, and it still doesn't EVER get stuck, NEVER! I'm the most frequent user of it, and my hands sweat regularly, and profusely, even my scrolling finger, still no scroll ball death... One that's far less thrown around would be the touch sensitive buttons. Yes, its true you cannot click both at once. If you try, it will primary click. But it has never messed up for me. Firstly, it CANNOT click without user input, since the clicking is not touch sensitive, the choice of which button is being clicked is. Secondly, it does not fail, and can't do so, since it works on such a simple technology.

    Upsides:
Too many to mention. It looks stunning, it feels solid, the touch-sensitive buttons are cool, the 360º scroll ball is very useful, it's optical sensor is always dead-on, it glides smoothly across most, if not all surfaces...etc.

    Complaints:
Ok, i have two, this is why I gave it a four, rather than a five. !) The cord length is strange, its too short to reach behind your Mac, and its too long to be convenient with the keyboard. 2) I hold my mouse on a slight angle (most do), and it causes my index finger to sit slightly atop the right click area. If they were to fudge the sensing areas a bit, it would help.

    It's Never Stopped Working

    • Written by from Honolulu

Yeah, its a great mouse. 2 years and still no problems. the scroll ball works great, the side buttons are great, i think the only reason that the scroll ball would stop working is if the person using it has really dirty hands and the dirt would get stuck in the ball. you disgusting people, wash your hands once in a while!

Wire too short for me but otherwise nice accessory

    • Written by from Stafford Springs

I have only had the wired mouse a few days. Since this is such a short timeframe do not consider this a full review. Consider it a "first impression" review.

I purchased the Mighty Mouse for my MacBook since I do not like to use the pad in laptops for long periods of time as my hands get cramped up and even the most simple gaming is just plain painful with the pad.

It is a shame that the USB ports are all on the left side of the MacBook which makes the cord (the length of about two MacBooks side by side) is too short and doesn't quite make it comfortably to the right side of the laptop for normal use by a right hander. Forget using it on the sofa or something, it just isn't long enough.

Luckily I had an extension for some other peripheral from the distant past which I could use as an extender. Without the extension, the cord is always getting in the way of normal typing activities and was rather annoying.

I take away one star for the length of the cord. The rest I like so far and was pleasantly surprised by the "right" click which you will notice if dual-booting in WinXP via BootCamp.

Scroll ball breaks -- but is easy to fix

    • Written by from Oakland

Thank goodness for reviews. I've LOVED this mouse for two years running and just had the scroll ball feature stop working. Came here thinking of buying a new one and found out how to fix it from another reviewer -- many thanks! Thought I'd reiterate the quick fix that they sent out: "To fix this, turn it upside down and place the mouse on its wheel. roll it around in every direction. This corrects the problem." It works. Check it out before you buy a new mouse!

Innovative design and concept for a mouse

    • Written by from Dallas

This mouse, which came with my iMac, took a while to get the hang of. I like the versatility of the mouse. Great mouse to come standard with the computer.
I really like the function of scroll button, much better than the typical scroll wheel. Even though the scroll button can be sensitive and appear to malfunction by only scrolling in one direction, it is very simple to "fix."
I am considering purchasing the bluetooth Mighty Mouse.

    It works

    • Written by from Valparaiso

The first mouse I received came w/ my iMac. After awhile, the cord was threading away ( where it connects w/ the mouse). Called Apple, got a new one, it works great and it has been a year. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the mouse wheel/ball. Sometimes it doesn't work. To fix this, turn it upside down and place the mouse on its wheel. roll it around in every direction. This corrects the problem. It does left/right click, U just have to feel when U click. BRAVO Apple for such innovation!

    Great control, 80% reliable wheel

    • Written by from Marlton

The overall mouse is great and very percise. But the scroll did become "dislocated" after about a month of use. But it was simple to just pop it back into place. This mouse has amazing features. A good choice.

    Very Nice

    • Written by from Sagle

This is a great product if you are looking for something that is well designed, cool looking, and inexpensive. The mouse is very light, tracking is a breeze, and you have many options for what you want the buttons to control. However, this mouse has a mild but annoying down side. Every so often, you will barely touch the side buttons (usually by accident), and the mouse thinks that you have pressed the sides. Obviously, if you have the side buttons serving no function, this is not a problem. Other than that, the mouse is a wonderful product.

Tip for cleaning the scroll wheel

    • Written by from philadelphia

We have ~20 of these wired Mighty Mice in our office that are all about three years old and I have not had to replace a single one yet. Yes, if you have dirty hands or eat greasy food while using the mouse the scroll ball will malfunction. That is just common sense. Luckily I have been able to fix problems with scroll wheel malfunction every time by using an alcohol prep pad. Rolling the pad over the wheel does a really nice job of dissolving any built up grease, oil, and dirt that may have accumulated from use. After a good cleaning the mouse is as good as new. I have tried other methods for cleaning the scroll ball, but it is the alcohol that is key. Remember, a mighty mouse is a high tech input device, treat it like one by taking good care of it and it will last. Cleaning your mouse should be something you do anyways to stay healthy. As my computer science teacher always told me, "Its not the tool its the fool."

    great product...only a couple issues.

    • Written by from Kent

Apple has always been a company that redesigns and improves current computer products with excellence however the mouse, in my opinion, has always been a problem for them. Don't get me wrong the mouse is great with the always simplistic design however i only have one issue with it. Since they used the old tracking ball design but only reversed the problems that created demand for improvement over the old design still applies here. You see that the tracking ball getting particles from use stuck on it and the response is sometimes inhibited. I have to from time to time flip the mouse over and run the tracking ball over the mouse pad to clear it out. This usually works and it starts responding as design again. Another drawback is this is the only option with apple - wish there was more since it feels a little uncomfortable when using it.

    Cool design

    • Written by from Charlotte

I love the design of this mouse, although, I will consider the wireless version next. The wired is great for an iMac maybe but not ideal for the Mac Book that my wife uses. The USB connections are on the left hand side of the Mac Book and the cable to the mouse isn't very long. It is still enough to reach where she keeps her mouse, but there isn't much slack at all. Other than that, it's a mouse. Really hard to mess that up, but at least Apple made it look really good.

    :)

    Rubbing Alcohol Really works!

    • Written by from Edmonton

All the posts about this mouse is about how the scroll bar doesn't work after a while. I saw a review about using Rubbing Alcohol and a Q-tip to fix it. It Works! Just take a Qtip, dip it in rubbing alcohol and then scroll around on the mouse with it. After all the gunk in out the scroll will work again! thanks so much for the tip!

    Good mouse so far

    • Written by from Milan

This mouse came with a Mac Pro, but I do not use it with it. I use my trusty old Kensington Optical Elite. I do use the mighty mouse on my G3 however. It is my nostalgic classic setup, running Mac OS 9.2.1, so the scroll wheel doesn't work anyway, so I cannot comment on that. It is an optical mouse...nothing more or less. It works great on my system, comfortable, reliable.
