    Boooo

    • Written by from Belleville

I have been thru 2 of these mice and its not like I was careless with my things. The first mouse had the track ball totally stop working, which the people in the apple stpre told me happens normally, the second one kept switching screen modes like when you press the side buttons so that was super annoying. Never buying this again!!

    Great Product, 1 Major Flaw

    • Written by from Highlands Ranch

I really do love this mouse, it's a fantastic piece of innovative technology and greatly impressed me when I first starting using it. Sadly as mentioned by many other reviewers, the product becomes absolutely useless once dirt gets under the scroll ball. I've cleaned mine over and over again, on a few occasions I've been able to bring it back, but sadly now it sits on my desk broken. If it weren't for this issue, I would be singing its praises and telling you to buy this, but unfortunately I can't. The issue with the scroll ball, and no way to open the device up to properly clean it out makes this simply a waste of money.

Utter failure in execution of a great idea.

    • Written by from Brooklyn

This would be the best mouse I've ever used, but the scroll ball problem everyone mentions is unavoidable and is exasperating. When the mouse works, it is phenomenally efficient. When the scroll ball stops—and it will—you will want to murder someone.

None of the cleaning solutions work reliably. All are a nuisance. Apple not only guaranteed problems by using a mechanical scroll ball, but they guaranteed a hellish time for anyone trying to fix the problems, by GLUING the assembly shut. Jesus, what were they thinking.

I tried the Magic mouse, as an alternative and wanted to love it. Unfortunately I find it borderline unuseable. It's great for casual use, web surfiing etc,, but lacks precision for serious work and it frequently flps out when your hand brushes near it by mistake.

I'm hoping Magic Mouse 2.0 (if such a thing is coming) solves these problems, because all the other solutions on the market are frustrating.

Come on Apple. Please attend to these not so minor details with your engineering might.

    Terrible product

    • Written by from Reading

Not adding any new insights here - just want to help drag down the average rating. This is a terrible product - the scroll ball on mine got hosed very quickly and simply no longer works. Apple should have taken this product off the market years ago.

    I'm onto my second replacement

    • Written by from Albuquerque

This mouse has been nothing but a nightmare. Each lasts for a few months, but now I'm onto my second replacement (third mouse).

The dirt/roller ball issue happened the first time. Now, the replacement mouse is constantly going to Expose, not allowing me to work in the window I'm using, and the buttons often send a command for one of the other buttons when pressed. Apple - after all these reviews, how can you keep manufacturing this mouse?

    Disappointing

    • Written by from Canton

I'm on my second mouse within one year. The scroll button doesn't want to scroll down, or sometimes-up. This was the same problem with the previous. My next one will be something other than Apple. This is disappointing because Apple quality is usually right on the mark.

Poor design, Poor functioning, Do not buy this product

    • Written by from Marina Del Rey

A have both wireless and USB versions.

Beside scrolling issues there are much more:

The ergonomic is really poor, it is too small and the shape is awful. It feels unnatural and Apple coming back to the stone age with this product. Your hand will get tired working with this mouse really fast.

The functionality is also really bad. There is no right or left button and mouse is always guessing what button did you really press. I have to lift my fingers to make sure I press the right side... There is also something about clicks - they are dumb slow, some times you click but click never happens... I have to click twice, it drives me nuts!!!

I'm using Microsoft Ergonomic Wireless mouse with my iMac now, it is sooo much better...

    Track ball is junk

    • Written by from Torrance

Why would Apple put a trackball on top of the mouse and make it non-removeable?
Hands get naturally oily, and dirt and dust settle ON TOP of things.
Sealing the ball into the case has to be one of the lamest ideas ever.
I thought maybe Apple had a new solution here, but it's the same old gunked-up routine I thought was long gone.
Remember the old trackball mouse? It had a removable ball, for cleaning, and that was a hassle, back then...in the 80's.
    Very dissapointing product.

    Pain in the rear!

    • Written by from Prescott Valley

I really love this mouse...but the scroll ball often malfunctions. It is such a pain. Although when it does work I have no problems then all to soon it will stop working again, as usual. Hopefully Apple will address this as I am afraid to buy another as it will only last a couple months if that.

    Scroll Bar Issue

    • Written by from phoenix

Bought our Mac 11/01/08. Began having issues with the scroll bar within the first six months, but "rolled it" out and it would work again. Now, it's quit completely on the downward scrolling.

    Not satisfied.

    Pathetic

    • Written by

Considering Apple's supposed high quality on all their products, this mighty mouse is a huge disappointment. The scroll ball doesn't work. The Geniuses said I have a lot of gunk and dirt on my fingers (not sure how they determined that), so I have to clean the scroll ball with alcohol on the end of a cotton swab. This only lasts about a week before I am unable to scroll again. Also, the pointer sometimes goes nuts and ends up on the opposite corner of the screen. And if you scroll down (like zooming out on a map), the mouse ends up zooming all the way in. Maybe they can put this mouse in their hilarious PC commercials. Apple should provide a free, or highly discounted, upgrade to their new mouse (if it, in fact, works as advertised).

    Scroll button in disrepair

This is the third "Mighty Mouse" I have tried over the past six months. The scroll button has broken on all three now - two do not scroll down, and one does not scroll up. Obviously there is something wrong.

    Why?

    • Written by from Toronto

    Dear Apple,

While a good product in some aspects, the Mighty Mouse fails in its most important function as a MOUSE: it fails to scroll vertically (!!!!!!!!!)

How did this product pass user-testing? Why are you not improving this product already? How can you include a failed product as a standard item shipped with most iMacs and MacPros?

I am not sure you realize this product is a HUGE INCONVENIENCE for most users.

This mouse for me had a couple annoying issues. The scroll ball would only work part-time. Also, sometimes the cursor would randomly shoot to a corner of the screen.

    PLEASE REPLACE THIS SCROLL BUTTON!

    • Written by from SIMMONSVILLE

This mouse is terrible. The scroll button has clogged on me more times than I'd care to count. It is by far the worst mouse I have ever come in contact with. It's such a shame too because I love all Apple products and for something that I use so regularly they couldn't get it right. I've heard alcohol pads can help along with rubbing the scroll button on a damp towel but I've tried both ways and neither of them work. It really gets tiresome when you have to go the Apple Store repeatedly to fix this problem. I know this mouse comes with the computer but my advise to you would be to buy a different mouse because it gets annoying fast.

    Not so Mighty Mouse

    • Written by from Auberry

I have had THREE of these. None of them have lasted longer than 5-6 months at best. Huge waste of $$ I don't know why Apple can't make a good mouse. Don't throw away your $ Just get the $14 mouse they sell. It's a good buy and lasts years longer.

    Get a Third Party Mouse

    • Written by from Tucson

Scroll ball gets jammed really often, and rolling it around on a towel helps for like a day and the ball returns to its semi-retarded state. Also the single casing looks cool but I often find the mouse left clicking when I want to right click and right clicking when I want left!

    It's not worth it

    Don't Buy this Mouse!

    • Written by from Brewster

I never was very impressed with the functions of this mouse but now like so many others, I have the same problem with the scroll button. 9 months old and it has stopped scrolling down. Up is ok but no down. For the price I would have expected a lot more. Seeing as how numerous people have had this problem more than once I just ordered a Logitech at Amazon. It's silver/white so it should go nicely with the IMac. Will not buy another Apple mouse!
