    Dissapointment

The mighty mouse is fine apart from the fact that the trackball won't scroll up.

    Mighty Mouse: My Opinion

    • Written by from Surrey

I purchased the Mighty Mouse today to replace an older Apple optical mouse on a G4 tower. The first thing I noticed is how cheap and light the Mighty Mouse feels compared to the old Apple mouse. If I'm paying $59.00 plus taxes, I want the mouse to feel somewhat substantial.

Otherwise, the mouse seems to work satisfactorily. The addition of the scroll button is nice.

    Mighty "Dissapointment"

    • Written by from FPO

Any person who knows the feeling of falling in love with Apple creations also must agree that when everything works together it is even better. I bought an iMac last year for my wife to use and to work with my Macbook Pro. The Mighty Mouse was an obvious choice to buy to go with the iMac, but has only been mediocre at best.

While the design is fantastic if you are desiring simplicity, it primarily has to work. Within the first three months of normal use, the scroll ball will no longer scroll down, only up. Not only is that frustrating but it's annoying as well because it makes me not want to purchase another mouse to to replace it.

My advice, spend $20-30 on a different mouse that will undoubtedly last much much longer than this one will.

    Nice....but

    • Written by from STOW

I am on my second one of these and for the price I should still be on the first. The scrolling feature is great for a while, and then it is very touchy. Some days the scroll would work, other days it would not, some days it would only work in one direction. All in all I am not pleased with the endurance of the mouse... I love the mouse when it is working properly.

    Lasts Forever!!!!

    • Written by

I got this mouse when it first came out it shipped with my iMac G5. First of all it lasts forever i have had it for almost three years and it still works like new. EXCEPT the scroll ball nevr went down. This mouse has been through all sorts of things but it still works. I haven't even had ant trouble with the right and left clip part. All around it is a good looking mouse that will last a long time but if you need to use the scroll bar then don't get this.

Scroll ball is the Achilles' heel on this mouse

    • Written by from Churchville

I like every thing about this mouse except the scroll ball which now does not work after just five months. Apple needs to go back to the drawing board. Until they resolve this problem I am going with Logitech

    Good, but a bit unreliable

    • Written by from Northglenn

I like it and yet the scroll ball needs constant cleaning to keep working. See Apple's support site for their advice which is just water and a cloth.

The side buttons are a bit flakey. They've spazzed out on me a few times where they 'click' by themselves fairly rapidly.

It's neat how you right click by just pressing the right side of the mouse and yet it's not as reliable as just having a dedicated right mouse button. Sometimes you'll find a finger barely touching the left side of the mouse for instance and a right click won't register. Doesn't happen alot, but enough to annoy.

The short cord is nice for plugging the mouse into your keyboard.

Left clicking is what I like about the mouse the most. It just has a great feel to it and you can use all your fingers. It's why I still use the thing.

A redesign should make the scroll ball require less cleaning. It should better sense when you are right clicking even if your index finger remains touching the left side a bit (if possible.) And the side buttons should be easier to click.

    Good and Bad

    • Written by from Saginaw

I've had my mouse for about 2 years. The scroll ball stopped working after about a year, but it just needed to be cleaned. I cleaned mine with a diaper wipe, rolling the ball around a lot. It works fine now. I read on Apple support that other people used rubbing alcohol, or handi-wipes, etc, to do the same thing. So it's no big deal.

I like the mouse a lot. However, it does a very bad job on my shiny white desk. My 6 year old Logitech laser mouse works pretty well on the same desk. So that is my only disappointment.

    Be Warned...

    • Written by from Hazard

The scroll ball is HORRIBLE. If the slightest particle gets underneath it it is nearly impossible to remove it. After using it for about a year I became disgusted with the scroll ball continuously not functioning correctly and bought a regular mouse.

    Short Mouse

    • Written by from Inglewood

I recently purchased my Mac and love it, but the cord on the mouse is shorter than the keyboard and will not reach where I want to put it.

    I will try the wireless.

    Weak

    • Written by from Scotsdale

the mighty mouse is good, and it has a nice list of features, but there are some things that just aren't right. for example, every time i am in photoshop selecting or cutting at image, the sides of the mouse get pressed and it activates expose, also, the trackball is very sensitive to dirt and stops working after a while.

Sleek, good programming, but scroll ball lacking

    • Written by from Wheaton

I love how the Mighty Mouse's sleek design fits in with the rest of Apple's hardware. It especially looks great next to the new keyboard. However, as with lots of other users, I have had significant problems with the scroll wheel. I have gone through two Mighty Mouse's so far, and each time, the reason for getting another one is the scroll wheel not scrolling in one or multiple directions. Cleaning it sometimes works, but most of the time doesn't.

    Great mouse but has issues

    • Written by from Asheville

overall the mighty mouse looks like it should be flawless.
it scrolls good the 2 sides buttons are good too.
but the wheel has allot of problems most of the time it doesn't want to scroll up or down.
i'm on my second mighty mouse since I bought my imac
apple didn't wastle no time in getting me a new one though.
however my second one is already acting up I think it's a design flaw.
this is the only thing I have had from apple that wasn't great.
    keep trying apple.

    apple mouse scrolling disfunction

    • Written by from Webster

I have an apple mouse, and it to has stopped scrolling from time to time. A little cleaning will restore proper operation. I took the mouse into our Apple store, and they advised me to clean the ball with rubbing alcohol on a lint free cloth, hold it upside down while doing this, and manipulate the ball in all directions. Also, use canned air to blow dust out. Although I have to do this monthly, it works every time.

    scrollball maintenance needs some rethinking

    • Written by from Savannah

The concept behind this mouse is great. Unfortunately, Apple forgot to take into account what happens to mice during real world use, such as accumulation of that gray goo from sweat and dirt on one's mouse hand. I'd love to buy a wireless version of this because I really like the sidescroll, but not until there's a way to clean the scrollball. Yes, I've read in the support forum that you can dislodge debris by vigorously rubbing the ball back and forth and/or using a drop of clean water, which sort of does work for short periods of time ... but seriously, I'd rather be able to take it apart and do a *real* cleaning.

Why did the manufacturer not supply us with a way into the mouse

    • Written by

I got my iMac last year and was very pleased with the Mighty Mouse at first. Then the inevitable happened with the scroll ball. Apple should note that reliablity of their products is equally important as great looks. I am sure who ever designed this little rascal would have thought to incorporate some way of getting into it for cleaning, but then whose to know if they initially did and it was quashed.......!!!!! There is no way I would pay out $49 for a new Mighty Mouse, knowing that within a year the scroll ball would be useless. I have learned to use the keyboard for scrolling around websites and other than the scroll ball it works fine. I will keep this mouse until a more reliable one comes from Apple.

    Scroll ball!!!

    • Written by from Columbus

I really would like to buy another Mighty Mouse, but until the scroll ball problem gets fixed, I'm not going to shell out $50 for a 4-month product. Like so many others, my Mouse worked mightily for about 4 months then stopped scrolling up and down. It has been so long since its worked correctly that I have forgotten how convenient it must have been when it was fully operational.

Only if there was some way to keep all dust, debris, and oil out of the little ball area! Unfortunately, in the real world, dust, small debris, and sometimes oily fingers are a part of life. A redesign needs to consider this - and until it happens, I'll still be using my part-functional Mighty Mouse.
