Like wired mouse as well or better than wireless Magic

    • Written by from Cedar Falls

I have a near new (12/'10) G5 with the wireless so called Magic Mouse. My trouble free 5 year old former G5 had the wired optical mouse. Other than having to occasionally clean the roller ball (not difficult, just dampen clean finger, or use lintless wet cloth - turn it belly up and roll the ball around a bit. Picks up skin oils over time) I much prefer it overall. Also - no batteries to change monthly or so. :-)

The new wireless is a PAIN due to excessive sensitivity in navigating the cursor, and it being nearly impossible to comfortably and reliably grip the side with out inadvertently touching some part of the full sized top sensing cover. Using Excel it's easy to jump several lines, rows or even windows and not even know it. It might be OK if there were a touch sensitivity adjustment - but there is none.

I'm about ready to buy the wired mouse again. Way easier to use most of the time, and has the side squeeze buttons missing on the newer wireless. Wish I had let them keep the wireless and me take my old mouse at trade in. I did keep my extended keyboard. Need number pad and nav keys as I do lost of Excel numbers work. Bummer they now charge extra for what was standard keyboard.

    My Favorite Mouse!

    • Written by from Ellicott City

I've been a Mac user since the first Mac was introduced in the mid-1980s, and this is my favorite mouse of all. I keep my Apple Mouse working well. How? I squirt a bit of compressed air into the ball each time I finish using it for the day. It ALWAYS works, and it works well.

    Great Product

    • Written by from Columbus

Overall, the mouse is a great product. It provides great functionality with the pressure sensitive sides and still works well even after two years of use. Those people who bought new mice because of the scroll ball issue could have done simply flipped the mouse upside down and rubbed the ball with a piece of printer paper. That information is easily available on the internet and Apple's website.

    Great Mouse!

I've read a lot of bad reviews, so I thought I'd put in my two cents. I've been using this mouse with my Mac Mini 1.66 Core Duo purchased back in 2006. I have never had any issues with this mouse. It's gone through several studio albums using logic pro, lots of final cut hd videos, and never once had a problem with the scroll ball. I love this mouse and will probably buy another one, when the time comes.

    Apple Mouse

    • Written by from CHICAGO

My experience with the Apple Mouse has been a pleasure although. I haven't mastered all its features.

I bought my computer in 2006 and on April 3, 2010 my nephew broke the mouse. I am reordering a replacement today

    I love this mouse

    • Written by from Bluffton

So far, I really do love the mouse although I did debate a lot about getting it after all the negative reviews I read on here. The mouse is beautifully designed and beautifully made. It has worked very well for me. I have the Magic Mouse for my MacBook Pro and use that most of the time. I got the wired mouse to use with the Windows partition on the MacBook since I couldn't get the Magic Mouse to work with that. I do prefer the Magic Mouse but am very happy with the wired mouse. The scroll button works very well although I don't do a great amount of scrolling. It fits my hand well. For the button to get really dirty, as so many people complain here, and for a lot of black gunk to be in it, seems really strange to me. Do all those people live in really dirty houses or do they ever wash their hands? Things, including mice, do need to be cleaned and Apple described in the booklet accompanying the mouse how to clean the mouse and the scroll ball.

    Exactly What it says

    • Written by from Savage

This is a great product and does exactly what it says it does, it has a lift and right click you just need to go into settings to change it from a single click to a double click, so people think it is only a single click, also it is very durable, unless you have a defected product or you just don't take care of it

    fantastic mouse...bad rating undeserved

    • Written by from Bloomfield

Before buying the wireless version of this mouse (identical, but using a bluetooth connection instead of a wire), I was unsure whether or not I should make the purchase, because I saw many dissatisfied customers.
However, trusting Apple as I do, I decided to buy it, and it has been well worth the expenditure. I use it daily with my Macbook Pro, and have not regretted buying it once. It tracks very smoothly and is quite forgiving as to where I place my fingers on the shell for right and left click. The side buttons are a great alternative to Expose on the trackpad, and the functionality of the trackball is astounding. I have rediscovered the mouse.
I have noticed, in general, that complaints arise around Apple products when either the user is rough on the equipment, or does not understand the interface. Recommendation: learn how to use what you buy, and treat your tools with care.
Simply wipe the mouse with a soft cloth every week or so, and rub the trackball against a clean pant leg. Stow it in a dust free place if you are not going to be using it for a while, and you will have years of use out of your Mighty Mouse.

Can't go back to the wheel

    • Written by from Toronto

Love this mouse and the wireless version. Have used them both since their release and have had NO issues. How dirty are you people who have the scroll ball seize up all the time? If it's not running smoothly, just turn it over and quickly run it up and down the front of your jeans, the length of your thigh. Takes ten seconds and it's working again. I have also used a can of compressed air to blow out the dirt, when I've had a can handy, but usually this isn't necessary 'cause it works fine and every six months I use the jeans trick.

Once you get used to having a mouse that will activate Exposé and the Dashboard, you won't want to use anything else.

    Excellent mouse for all users

    • Written by from Pella

I hesitated upgrading my mouse due to the negative comments. The time came for my old mouse to go, and I have been happy with the change. Right-click works with a mouth stick, a rarity for Apple products, and has worked well in the few months I've had it.

The scroll button takes a little getting used to, but works well.

Second to none in my book

    • Written by from SAINT CHARLES

I have no idea what these people are talking about who have given this mouse anything else but stellar reviews. This mouse has only one short coming and it is that you might have to do some periodic maintenance (i.e. compressed air on the track ball). I have had this mouse for about 2 years now and absolutely love it. If you treat it well then it will treat you well.

Good mouse, works fine for me

    • Written by from Aurora

I bought this mouse about 3 years ago. Its been working great for me. I am a heavy computer user, and I use my mini just about all day. I originally bought the Mighty Mouse to replace a cheep MS mouse that quit. Only once have I had an issue with a gunked up scroll wheel, you basically tip the mouse over and work the grit out by gently rolling the ball over a shirt or something, works for me. Have not had a problem with it sense. The only issue that I have noticed is left clickers who do not lift their index finger when left clicking find it perplexing and frustrating when they don't get the action they expect. This wasn't an issue for me, and the other person using the computer was able to curve this so that it would not be a problem. It works great, its a solid product, I love the scroll-ability of the mouse, and the side buttons expose and the center click on the scroll wheel for widgets. Oh just out of curiosity, I did wet my hand and try the scroll ball, it did temporarily stop working, so if you have extremely greasy hands or wet hands or something I suppose that could be an issue, probably should be washing and drying your hands before and after using the computer anyhow if thats the case ;)

Do you guys wash your hands?

    • Written by from Naples

First off, I keep my apple equipment as clean as possible at all times. Guess what? I love my mighty mouse. Never had a problem with the scroll bar. Try washing your hands before you use it because whether you believe it or not, gunk builds up. Hope this helps.

    Love it....!

    • Written by

Okay, so I have read a lot of bad reviews on this site and many others. Quite frankly, I don't understand what the problem is. I love this mouse. It is designed for Mac OS X and is a joy to use. I easily was able to get started. You literally just plug it in and voila! Also, I had no problem switching the primary and secondary functions to make it a left-handed mouse.
I guess the biggest complaint people have is with the scroller ball. Honestly, if you keep it clean by cleaning it once a month, you'll be more than A okay...

I purchased the Mighty Mouse over a year ago and thus far, have encountered zero problems. It functions the way it is supposed to and never sticks or gets sluggish. I prefer the tail rather than the wireless because there are fewer problems that can occur. I'm planning on buying a second one for my other computer. Stay away from wireless and you should be OK.

    still working

    • Written by

My whole family uses this mouse regularly and it still works fine after 18 months. I see no problem with this product and it has operated just like new for as long as i've used it.

Its simple design has no negative impact on it's performance and I like that you can customize the function of each button in System Preferences. It has been very reliable. Thanks Apple for another great product!

    Incredible Mouse, 100% Cleanable

    • Written by from Doral

If you see any negative reviews from this mouse, ignore them. I had this mouse for 7 months now and the scrolling stopped, BUT with a damp cloth, I was able to make it as god as new again. It's also great because of it's 4 programable buttons. The design is also great, and it works with ANY surface, rough, smooth, or even glass. This is an awesome mouse.

    I like it . . .

    • Written by from Blanchester

I've had mine for 1 1/2 yrs and is still working. Today, however, it seemed that I could only get the roller ball to scroll up but not down -- go figure. I did the paper cleaning idea and now it's working fine.

I do think there should be a redesign to make it even better. Other than that, it's "a good thing."
