    Dragging Long Distances

    • Written by from Draper

I love the look of my Mighty Mouse. I also love the scroll ball, even though I've had the same issues with it that others have had and have to clean it often, I'm still spoiled by its action.

My main complaint is this: it lacks basic mouse functionality. If I need to click and drag something a long distance, since my very first mouse I've been able to click, drag, pick up the mouse while still clicked and move it over, then drag some more. Because of the Mighty Mouse's no button design, this is nearly impossible.

I still give it three stars. If they can figure out a way to fix click-and-drag and make the scroll button work better, I'll give it five.

    Decent

I bought this mouse yesterday and when you click it is sometimes squeaky and the trackball gets pushed out of place sometimes. But overall its a decent mouse.

Cleaning mouse/no scroll down or up?

    • Written by from missoula

People. this mouse can get dirty like any other mouse. Take some rubbing alcohol along with a rag or sock and really clean this sucker. Wipe it in all positions for about a minute. My mouse quit scrolling down completely and I really cleaned the scroller with alcohol and got it to work again with no problem. I just now periodically clean it more since the scroller picks up dirt and other material.

    could be great....

    • Written by from CHEPACHET

When you first get it, it's amazing, then it just dies. The wheel stopped working after three months. It's a almost - perfect mouse, but the scroll ball thing always stops working. Even if you try cleaning, the down scroll just dies.

    Not that good

    • Written by from San Juan

I had a Mighty Mouse for 6 months and now it's dead. About 2 weeks ago it started to give me problems and now after some seconds of being plugged in it freezes and nothing works. I tried using it on my other Mac and on a PC and it had the same problem on all. I did enjoy the extra features like the 360 degrees scroll ball and the squeeze buttons and the mouse looks great.

    argh!

    • Written by

Still better than any other mouse, since I'm now spoiled by the 360° capabilities of the scroll ball, but I've had my second Mighty Mouse for a mere month and already the scroll ball is messed up. I JUST fixed it myself--by mashing it into submission, which is not a way anything should be fixed. The scroll ball is too sensitive, especially for someone who clicks it as much as I do! Steve Jobs, help!

    a little tail

    • Written by

i have worked with a variety of these mouses as all the computers at school have them

some squeeze buttons are so touchy i have to turn that option off entirely! and some track balls are sticky, but thats to be expected for the amount of use it gets in a school setting. but not all of them have these problems. some work like magic.

but they all have one HORRIBLE thing in common: the tail. I loved them at school so much, i bought my own for my MacBook. What a mistake. No one told me the tails are only about 25" long.

I am right handed and the USB ports are on the left side. Once plugged into the left side and brought around the back of my MacBook to the right side, there is only about 10" (if even that) of cord left!! Giving you limited mobility and never ending frustration.

About 100 times a day i wish my ports were on the right hand side, or i pray to wake up and find my mouse has grown a longer tail.

Not the best. Apple Could have done a lot better. the problem I have most is the scroll wheel. I had it for a month with my iMac, and then the scroll wheel stopped working. I tried cleaning it and everything, but it didn't work. Now i have to chick and drag the slider down on the side when I'm on the internet.

    Stickie Mouse

    • Written by

I found the same problem with the scroll ball. I tried the canned air first before taking it apart, and it seemed to work. I will keep using it, until it sticks again and keeps me from scrolling up/down, left/right. Just direct the spray nozzel of the canned air, or air hose from compressor(low psi) and it dislodged whatever was jamming the ball.

    way to fix your mouse

    • Written by from Arlington Heights

Ok guys listen up first of all I think this is an all around decent mouse. I've had it for four and a half months and it done fine. If you r having a problem fixing your scroll ball do this-clean the roller ball on the top with alcohol wipes or a q-tip soaked in alcohol. that should fix it. If it doesn't fix it (in the unlikely circumstance that it doesn't) you can always have it taken to the apple store and be fixed.(oh and i really think that this mouse is four stars not three)

    Love it but...

    • Written by from Boutiliers Pt.

I'm on my second one because the scrolling ball stops working after awhile. The first one was on warranty and I've only had this one a few months. It doesn't appear to be dirty. It's too bad because the little ball is my favorite part.

    Cord

    • Written by from Monkton

Ok great idea with the 5 Buttons but the cord is too short and the right click has too small of a surface area. I would say 3.5 if i could.

Not the greatest mouse I've used...

    • Written by from New Brighton

This mouse is... okay, at best. The tracking is smooth, the mouse fits comfortably in my hand, quick and painless to set up. A couple of issues that I have with it are the scroll ball, the "right" click and the squeeze feature. First, the scroll ball can become gummed up over time, even if you have reasonably clean hands. Second, the right-click is not programmed by default. You have to turn that on yourself. Third, the squeeze function I find sometimes gets in the way, especially when you have to reposition the mouse, and accidentally activate the squeeze function. Even during normal use, that can become annoying, so I turn that feature off. I find Apple's trackpads easier to use than this mouse.

    Not bad, needs work

    • Written by from Scottsdale

The trackball construction needs work. I've cleaned and rehabbed it a few times, but it required popping off the lower flange and regluing afterwards. (I'll try the paper trick next time the scroll-up wheel fails.)

The side buttons are too sensitive or in the wrong location. It is all too easy to accidentally trigger the default feature, Exposé. I've adjusted my grip further down on the mouse, but even then I unintentionally trigger the pesky thing all too often. It is triggered with either button, not both simultaneously; requiring both to be pressed might help.

Positives: size, shape and weight are comfortable; left and right buttons work well for me; good adjustability through system preferences. Fix the trackball and side buttons and you've got a winner.

    Partial solution!

    • Written by from Saint Louis

So, I have had this mouse for a bit over a month (using it with a Macbook Pro). I was having some problems with the mouse skipping (i.e. the pointer would suddenly jump to a corner of the screen and I had to disable Expose because it was making me craaazy!). Some people were saying that even mousepads didn't fix the problem. I found one at Office Depot for $9 - it's by Allsop, it's very thin and flexible and can double as a screen protector when your computer is closed, and the surface is some kind of microfiber. Anyway, poof goes the problem!

As for the scroll ball, I fully expect it to give out eventually, but at least the tracking problem is fixed!

    OK, except for scroll ball

    • Written by from Madison

I use my Mac several hours a day, and the scroll ball has become gunked up beyond repair. None of the techniques---the paper, the air blast, the wet cloth, the toothbrush, the alcohol---work any more. It only scrolls left and right, and not in the other two directions. My only option left is to take the thing apart, and it is not designed for that. Well, I have another option, which is to buy some other model.

    Scroll wheel wont scroll down...

    • Written by

I've this mouse for a while but unfortunately I can't scroll down. I can scroll up and to the sides BUT NOT DOWN and this is extremely frustrating considering it's less than a year old and it's already not working. I've tried holding it upside down and rubbing it around with a damp cloth like apple suggests on their support page but nothing helps. Otherwise a great mouse.

Nice mouse but scroll wheel gets messed up easily

    • Written by from Mountain View

This would be a great mouse except that the scroll wheel gets gunked up easily. I read that you could clean it by flipping it over and rubbing the wheel on a piece of paper. That seems to work but it just broke the last time I did it. Now the buttons don't even work.

This mouse is too expensive to have a flaw like this.

Great Invention — Squeak noise kills it

    • Written by

Overall this is a superior product. My problem is that it squeaks EVERY TIME I CLICK! AHHH! Annoying to say the least.

However the track ball rolls as it should. Optical is precise. Easy to keep clean. You can program it very easily via OSX and it's a pleasure to use.

However I'm not the first that has stated that these MM's are squeaky. :(

For overall use I'd say 4-1/2 stars but due to the annoying squeak I have to rate it a 3.

i do and dont like this mouse. Yes, it may scroll both ways, but sometimes, it wont scroll up, its a easy fix, but even the left clicker stops working and acts as the right clicker.
