    Dragging Long Distances

    • Written by from Draper

I love the look of my Mighty Mouse. I also love the scroll ball, even though I've had the same issues with it that others have had and have to clean it often, I'm still spoiled by its action.

My main complaint is this: it lacks basic mouse functionality. If I need to click and drag something a long distance, since my very first mouse I've been able to click, drag, pick up the mouse while still clicked and move it over, then drag some more. Because of the Mighty Mouse's no button design, this is nearly impossible.

I still give it three stars. If they can figure out a way to fix click-and-drag and make the scroll button work better, I'll give it five.

Scroll ball not scrolling anymore... no way to take it out or clean it. It scrolls up fine, but not down.

Worst mouse ever. It lasted all of 3 months and started to die. First it started right-clicking EVERYTHING and now it won't scroll downward. Spend the money and just buy the Magic Mouse instead.

Do yourself a favor and replace this mouse

    • Written by

I've been struggling with my mouse since I got it. For a month it wouldn't scroll up. Then it started working fine again. Now it won't scroll down. The left click and right click aren't responsive and I regularly have to click an item multiple times for it to register. So, if you're having trouble with your mouse, don't waste your time. It's not your imagination or your fault. It's a poor product. Get a new, different mouse right away.

I have loved this mouse ever since i got it, and was just about to replace the mice on my old computers with these new ones when I noticed it stopped scrolling!! DARN!! I was flabergasted, then I came onto this site and saw all the bad reviews and my heart sank... THEN !!!!!!! I did what the OTHER reviews said which is to rinse the scroll ball with rubbing alcohol on a Q-TIP and WHAMMO... IT WORKED PERFECTLY again!! So my faith in Apple is restored once again. I just wish there was someway for the other users to find out that this Rubbing Alcohol + QTip works like a charm. Dip the Q-Tip in alcohol and rub the ball around in the solvent for about one minute (maybe less will do) then rub the scroll ball with a dry Q-Tip and when the solvent dries, the scroll wheel works agaiin like a charm. Its faster and easier than the old mice that had to have the dust cleaned out of them, this is much less of a hassle, so don't despair, just pull some rubbing alcohol out of the medicine cabinet and your problem is solved!!!!!

    Scroll Ball nightmare

    • Written by from Woodbridge

The scroll ball will constantly become clogged with use and no longer perform. My family have gone through 10 mice in the past year. Thats right 10. We have the extended warrantee. Otherwise, it would be $49 each time. Scroll ball needs major redesign.

I bought a new Apple desktop computer a couple of months ago and found myself going back to the store because the scrolling button on the mouse stopped working. They tested it in the store and it started working again. So, I took it home and it worked for about a month. Now the scrolling ball will not scroll down. It never really scrolled horizontally!!! So, back to the Apple store I go with this WORTHLESS GARBAGE!!! I'm UPSET beyond words, but take some solace in knowing I'm not alone. Apple should take this junk off the market.

    The Mouse that works

    • Written by from Kaufman

Read several reviews as the scroll ball would scroll up but not down. Then it would scroll down but not up. The first time I used canned air to spray everywhere around the scroll ball and it started working again. After several weeks it stopped scrolling up. I did the spray a second time it stopped hoping it would scroll up. No deal. After reading about the paper method, I did that, and it works like a charm. Yes it's a hassle, but regardless how clean you keep things, including your finger, stuff does get on the ball. I don't intend to wear an exam glove on my 'mouse hand' to prevent the natural oils and don't plan on building a mini clean room in which to stick my hand to operate the mouse. But the paper solution does work. for those that don't or cant scroll to see the entry, I unplugged the mouse, got a clean sheet of paper and rolled the scroll ball in every which direction and plugged it back in and it works great. I don't work for Apple, and am a recent convert from Windows.

    Inconsistent Scrolling

    • Written by from Santa Monica

The Mighty Mouse is sleek and efficient but the scrolling ball is just pathetic. After a few months it will not scroll either up or down. You have to clean it with a disinfectant wipe and hope that solves the issue.

    Hand Sanitizer

    • Written by from Troy

I have the same problem with the mouse as everyone else. Whenever my ball stops scrolling I take a paper towel with a generous dab of hand sanitizer on it and roll the ball in the hand sanitizer until it starts working again. Sometimes it take a couple of tries but it works for me every time. I only rated it 3 stars because I'm getting sick of having to do it all the time.

Extremely poor quality - very unlike Apple

    • Written by from New York

Save your money and buy a real mouse from Logitech. The scroll ball in this mouse is so fragile and sensitive. I've had it for less than two months and the thing has stopped working. I can't scroll up anymore - an extreme annoyance. Now I've got to hike up to the Apple store to see if they can fix it or return it. Apple needs to do better quality testing.

    Good, but not so good.

    • Written by from Orange

The mouse itself is good looking, and fits the hand nicely. The only problem(s) I have with this product is that:

    1. The side buttons get accidentally hit a lot. (well for me)

    2. The track ball stops working over time.

Going to #1, usually when I'm surfing the web, running an application that requires the mouse, I always hit those two side buttons. I know you can reprogram them to nothing, but I like to use it for expose and find it difficult to get used to.

Going to #2, the track ball does stop working over time. I've had the mouse for approx. 4-5 months and the track ball cannot scroll up. This is from the ball attracting dirt, therefore the dirt goes into the tracking system and disconnects the ball from the tracker. (Sorry If I didn't explain it thoroughly; I did the best I could)

The mouse works fine other then those two flaws. The touch case sensitive buttons are perfect, the DPI is nice, and it looks like a good, reasonable glamourous Apple product.

Great Invention — Squeak noise kills it

    • Written by

Overall this is a superior product. My problem is that it squeaks EVERY TIME I CLICK! AHHH! Annoying to say the least.

However the track ball rolls as it should. Optical is precise. Easy to keep clean. You can program it very easily via OSX and it's a pleasure to use.

However I'm not the first that has stated that these MM's are squeaky. :(

For overall use I'd say 4-1/2 stars but due to the annoying squeak I have to rate it a 3.

    it's sad but true

    • Written by from Calgary

sadly, this is one of the most unreliable apple products I have ever purchased.

within only a couple of months use, the scroll ball has stopped tracking downwards, and will now only scroll up -- such a pain.

what really gets me is that this product has a fairly high price point -- all of these problems should be addressed immediately by apple. this is defective by design, and for all those of us (sad saps) who bought them should be able to get what we paid for ... a fully functional mouse :(

take a look around and see how many other people are saying the same thing

    Love it / Hate it

    • Written by from rochester

This is one of the most annoying products ever made.

It generally works great and is easy to use... When everything is working.

The annoying part is that the scroll ball gets dirty and is almost impossible to clean. The mouse is not designed to be opened for cleaning. There are a host of do-it-yourself solutions out on the web. I've tried them all and they all work---- to some extent, but never to give a really great result.

I'm surprised Apple has not revised the design to make it easier to clean or to reduce it's sensitivity to dirt.

I'm about ready to buy someone else's mouse and trash this one. It's worked for a couple of years, but requires constant attention. It's just too annoying.

    Keep 'em clean!

    • Written by from DULUTH

I understand the frustration of all those who have had trouble with their "mice". I have both wired and bluetooth and both quit scrolling down at almost the same time. However, since I've cleaned them with a homemade window cleaner, both are working once again. So, before you panic and throw that mouse away, clean it. And then, always be aware of what you have on your fingers. It's going to end up on the scroll wheel.
Could it have been designed better, sure. But you can keep it working if you keep it clean.
