    Great Mouse, Easy to Clean.

    • Written by from Cambridge

If your scroll ball stops working, you can easily fix it by making a Que-Tip slightly damp, rolling the Que-Tip around on the ball, then flipping the mouse upside down on a blank piece of paper and pressing on the scroll ball as you move the mouse around.

Search on YouTube for :"how to clean apple mouse" and there will be loads of videos on how to clean it easily WITHOUT taking it apart.

    A great mouse...

    • Written by from Albany

I use this mouse for a variety of applications, both on a PC and a Mac. Whether gaming, browsing or doing design work, it's never let me down. As for those who've experienced roller-ball issues: just give the mouse a good cleaning, and it'll be working like new again. I've found that a microfiber cloth will clear just about any jam - if it's particularly bad, lightly damp the cloth. I've been using mine since the Mighty Mouse was released back in 2005, and plan on using it for many years to come.

    Love it!

I have 3, 2 at home and 1 at work. Occasionally the scroll ball will stop working in one direction or another, but all that is needed is an alcohol swab. Rub over the ball in random directions until it starts working again. This cleaning usually has to be done maybe every 6 months.

    Mighty Mouse remains mighty!

    • Written by from Rochester

Don't give up on the Mighty Mouse if you think the scroll ball is dead! Just get a damp cloth, turn the mouse over and rub the ball vigorously across the damp area of the cloth (these instructions are in the apple knowledge base). Viola! Your Mighty Mouse will roar once more!

I never really thought much about computer mice until I started using this one. Now I find it hard to use others, especially if there is no horizontal scroll. It is hard to believe how intuitive it is to use the scroll ball. Another design success for Apple - looks great and offers great functionality.

    Great Mouse!

    • Written by from Lyme

Works great, best mouse I've every used. The scroll wheel does get clogged but you can clean it out with rubbing alcohol and it works like new afterward. Lokks great and works great. So what if you have to clean it every few months?

Cleaned the scroll and it works!

    • Written by from Burnaby

I was having a problem with the scroll button until I stumbled upon an advice on this page to clean it with alcohol. I used my facial toner instead with a cotton wipe and viola! My scroll button is working again. I was about to buy a new mouse. Thanks guys!

    Terrific Minimalist & Functional Design...

    • Written by

It may not be everyones opinion, but personally I find the minimalist design, ergonomics and functions first rate. The reliability has also been excellent.

The scroll ball is obviously a tight tolerance design and likely sensitive to any foreign matter that may enter around it's periphery so I always make sure my hands are clean before sitting down at the computer. This also keeps my keyboard clean.

Just a casual look at the "mice" available from other companies ( which to me often tend to look like running shoes), the Apple Mouse (and virtually all other Apple products) are clearly in a class by themselves. It's obvious Mr Jobs is more than an engineer and businessman. Firstly, he's an Industrial Designer.

    Very Nice!

    • Written by from San Antonio

This mouse is sweet! I just upgraded from an Apple Pro Mouse that I used for 6 years. The scrolling feature is great. The Mighty Mouse takes a little getting used to, but once you do it really speeds up productivity. I can't believe so many people are complaining about the scroll ball, it works very nice for me. If you keep your hands and your mouse clean, you shouldn't have any problems. Just be aware of where your pointer is when you're using the scroll feature and it should be smooth sailing. I found, that if you put the pointer over specific areas in some applications this allows you to move sliders. In iTunes, if you put the pointer over the volume you can scroll it up and down. Also the ability to scroll through my whole iTunes Library with one small motion is very nice! The Mighty mouse is another great product from Apple.

    My favorite mouse

    • Written by from Rowlett

This is the best mouse I have ever used. Sure it can get a little gummed up, but a once-a-year cleaning is not too bad of a price to pay. If you need to clean the ball, take a paper towel or lint free cloth, add a bit of naphtha, lighter fluid, or rubbing alcohol, flip the mouse over and roll the wheel around on the moist area. I am still using the same mouse that I got with my 2009 mac pro... I did buy a back up in case they stop making these, but it's still in the box... The ergonomics just work well for me. Every mouse I have used have me cramps after a while.. This one does not do that. I have a magic mouse that I use with my MBP, but it's not fun to use with SketchUp... We all have different needs and requirements, and this one works best for my style of computer use...

    Great mouse

    • Written by from Esmont

This mouse is very good, I prefer it over the mighty mouse as it has far more functionality with the side buttons particularly if you have a lager monitor and many windows.

For those who find the track ball too prone to failure, I recommend washing your hands more often. I have many of this model mouse which have been used in the field, some five or more years old, and all I do is clean the ball, blow a little air and back into service they go. It's not the mouse that defective, it's our dirty hand and work areas. Don't use hand lotion on you finger tip, Frito's and other greasy food are the devil for these devices. If you what to work that what buy one of the many PC tank mice and be on your way.

    Some common sense please

    • Written by from Vancouver

Biggest complaint about it, the track ball stops working. A. maybe wash your hands from time to time. Oil and dust from our skin is unavoidable but 1 month or even 6 months and already having problems is on you. B. If it acts up, flip it over and start doing figure eights on a blank sheet of paper and watch as the eight starts showing color....ewwww. I love these mice (the plural for mouse previous reviewer) and pick them up all the time for next to nothing because of "problems" with the scroll ball. I have a box of more than twenty spares at my office all of which were fixed this way, 100% success rate. You can perform this quick fix or just take it apart and thoroughly clean it which takes all of a whopping three to five minutes. These concepts can't be escaping you people, its' common sense. I would take once of these over the horrific Magic Mouse any day of the week. My only complaint, where is the aluminum?

I have had my Mighty Mouse for a couple years. Only maintenance it has every needed is an annual touch of the scroll ball with an alcohol wipe to clean it off (takes a few seconds) and recharge of batteries every couple months. I love it!!!

    Great Mouse!

    • Written by from Roann

I've read a lot of bad reviews, so I thought I'd put in my two cents. I've been using this mouse with my Mac Mini 1.66 Core Duo purchased back in 2006. I have never had any issues with this mouse. It's gone through several studio albums using logic pro, lots of final cut hd videos, and never once had a problem with the scroll ball. I love this mouse and will probably buy another one, when the time comes.

    I love this mouse

    • Written by from Bluffton

So far, I really do love the mouse although I did debate a lot about getting it after all the negative reviews I read on here. The mouse is beautifully designed and beautifully made. It has worked very well for me. I have the Magic Mouse for my MacBook Pro and use that most of the time. I got the wired mouse to use with the Windows partition on the MacBook since I couldn't get the Magic Mouse to work with that. I do prefer the Magic Mouse but am very happy with the wired mouse. The scroll button works very well although I don't do a great amount of scrolling. It fits my hand well. For the button to get really dirty, as so many people complain here, and for a lot of black gunk to be in it, seems really strange to me. Do all those people live in really dirty houses or do they ever wash their hands? Things, including mice, do need to be cleaned and Apple described in the booklet accompanying the mouse how to clean the mouse and the scroll ball.

    Exactly What it says

    • Written by from Savage

This is a great product and does exactly what it says it does, it has a lift and right click you just need to go into settings to change it from a single click to a double click, so people think it is only a single click, also it is very durable, unless you have a defected product or you just don't take care of it

    fantastic mouse...bad rating undeserved

    • Written by from Bloomfield

Before buying the wireless version of this mouse (identical, but using a bluetooth connection instead of a wire), I was unsure whether or not I should make the purchase, because I saw many dissatisfied customers.
However, trusting Apple as I do, I decided to buy it, and it has been well worth the expenditure. I use it daily with my Macbook Pro, and have not regretted buying it once. It tracks very smoothly and is quite forgiving as to where I place my fingers on the shell for right and left click. The side buttons are a great alternative to Expose on the trackpad, and the functionality of the trackball is astounding. I have rediscovered the mouse.
I have noticed, in general, that complaints arise around Apple products when either the user is rough on the equipment, or does not understand the interface. Recommendation: learn how to use what you buy, and treat your tools with care.
Simply wipe the mouse with a soft cloth every week or so, and rub the trackball against a clean pant leg. Stow it in a dust free place if you are not going to be using it for a while, and you will have years of use out of your Mighty Mouse.
