worst mouse I have ever owned

    • Written by from Johnstown

I've owned many mice over the years and all worked beyond when I decided to upgrade them. This one, however, stopped scrolling properly after a few months. Then the bottom under-body became cracked through regular use and would not stay in place without tape. By the time I decided to return it, my warranty was up. I just expected SO much more from a mac product.

And, not everyone wants to use bluetooth or wifi products all the time. Because I work long hours at my computer, I choose not to be exposed to so many wireless products for long periods of time. Thumbs down to mac for not giving me more options.

    perfect

So I purchased this mouse because I have two PowerPc G3 imacs (one slot one tray). My problem was I needed a mouse for my slot loading model because my tray loading was using my puck mouse. I went to best buy and picked it up for $49 and six months later still works. Great product. Good value.

Simple cleaning tip for the ickle bally

    • Written by from Ramat Beit Shamesh

All these people that complain about the ickle bally not working, here is a way to make it all soft and fluffy again - get a baby wipe and rub it backwards and forwards and side to side over the ickle bally (in the same way you move your fingers) and it gets all better. Alternatively chuck it in the bin when it gets dirty, personally I'm not that rich :-)

    Waste of Money

    • Written by from Denton

I bought this mouse less than 6 months ago and it just completely failed. The trackball has always been a little sketchy but the whole thing just stopped working. I replaced it with my 7 year old logitech mouse and it works great. Apple seems to occasionally forget that form is supposed to follow function. Total waste of money.

    wired mouse disaster

    • Written by from Cold Lake

Worst designed mouse I've encountered. The trackball sticks and after a while only works in one direction. The trackball design prevents cleaning and the work arounds such as rubbing on white printer paper etc only gives temporary relief. I am back to using my old Dell mouse which while not as ergonomically pleasing does work as required.

Good mouse but hard to maintain

    • Written by from Seattle

I really like this mouse. The short cable, the ball, and the size of it is perfect for my hand. And I love how you can customize all the functions; there are a lot of options that make life in my design world easier. Sadly, however, its not designed for long term use. The designers needed to include an easy way to clean and maintain the mouse and they kind of forgot that part. The ball rollers inside the mouse get all gummed up with lint and kludge like all mice do. But you are unable to clean the inside like you used to be able to on older mice. Its nearly impossible to open and so you're left with a ball that barely functions and frustrates you. I need a wired mouse here at work since we don't have an endless supply of batteries. I think I'll be shopping for a replacement soon.

    Good mouse

    • Written by from Schenectady

I bought a new iMac and stupidly decided to get the "Magic" Mouse. Go read the reviews for that...I should have. That mouse is complete garbage. I had to swap the wired keyboard and wired mouse from my mini to the new iMac (the wireless keyboard is fine, I guess, if you like the layout which matches the laptops).

As far as this mouse goes, I like it just fine. After a few years the ball got gummed up and I had to take it apart to clean it, but no big deal for me. I would get another one.

    Not For MacBook Pro's

    • Written by from Chaska

Bought this mouse last week and went to use it. I plugged it in and realized the short cord rendered this mouse useless (Im Right Handed). You shouldn't have to buy a USB extension to use an Apple Mouse with a Macbook Pro (Bought Feb 2013). Or Apple should at least add a single USB port on the right side of MacBooks.

    Have LOVED IT

    • Written by from Danville

I have been using this mouse for almost 7 years and I have LOVED it. Yes, the little scroll ball does get sticky from time to time, but a good cleaning with alcohol and a q-tip works wonders. I've owned 2 Mighty Mouse(s?) and loved those even better because they were wireless. One quit working after several years and the other broke in pieces when it was dropped on a hard floor. Apple replaced these with the Magic Mouse, which is more awkward, too thin and doesn't have the two buttons on the side, which I programmed for Expose. I wish Apple would bring back the WIRELESS Mighty Mouse, I really miss that one!! Guess I'll have to use a hardwired one or get a Magic Mouse...not that magical. :(

    The best mouse. Period.

    • Written by from Dartmouth

Yes scroll ball will be unreliable if you are riding in dirt and not keeping it clean.

I have two of these and am getting a third. Simple. And 4 button mouse is absolutely needed if you use your Mac for business. Expose and Spaces (need Total Spaces now for Mountian Lion). I have a Magic Mouse and do not like it - it is missing the side buttons and the 3rd mouse button.

Nothing but thumbs up on this. And the main reason I only give it the 4 stars is the fact that the scroll ball in the mouse with about 100K on it will become unreliable - so go get it fixed/cleaned...!

    It's a $45 dollar mouse, not $90.

    :)

Bad mouse, no cheese for you

    • Written by from Cranston

This mouse looks slick, I'll give it that. And the scroll nub is pretty nice.

What's terrible is the clicking of the buttons. Without a clear left or right demarcation, the functionality is abysmal. Clicking is always imprecise with this thing. Left clicks are hard to achieve, and right clicks are impossible.

Lastly, the cord is far too short.

    Don't buy this mouse!

    • Written by from Garrattsville

This is the most frustrating and infuriating piece of junk I've ever encountered. The stupid thing makes pages fly all over the place zooming in and out and sending out crazy commands and never doing what you want it to do. I work in Logic and Photoshop and need to do precise moves but it always misreads my slightest touch and sends all the pages on a zoom out and then back in and then out again... relentlessly. It does it at the most inopportune moments and basically freaks out constantly, upsetting any kind of flow I have and messing up important info I am trying to click. The sad part is, I bought this to have as a backup to my wireless mouse which constantly gets cut off from my bluetooth and won't reconnect. So, now when that happens, my back up is an even worse piece of garbage. Apple mouses are complete junk. I'm about to chuck them both out the window and try another brand. Sad they can't get their act together on these very basic products. And sadder still that others are doing such a better job.

Terrible - scrolls only one way

    • Written by from Hong Kong

Depending on the settings, it just scrolls up or down - NOT BOTH ! The left / right scroll works fine. Feel kind of cheated since you pay a premium for quality products from Apple.

Why is the cable so short?

    • Written by from Brisbane

Why would you design the mouse with such a short cable when you've also designed the previous Macbook Pro with all the usb ports on the left hand side? really apple, that's your definition of a great design?

Great mouse but cable too short

    • Written by from CHIPMAN

I love this mouse, have had it for years without any problems whatsoever -- but doesn't Apple know that some of us use desktop computers with pull-out drawers?

In order to use it with the standard cord I had too have the monitor much to close, and I suffered like this until I ordered a USB cable extension. (Am I the only person who didn't know such extensions existed?)

    Scroll wheel never works properly

    • Written by from SHERMAN OAKS

Nice design, but i've had to replace the mouse 4 times over a two year period. Why? The scroll wheel stops working after a couple of months, due the the poor design of the small ball. I am a clean person, do not use food, or have dirty hands when using keyboard/mouse, yet even the smallest amount of natural accumulated dirt will render the scroll wheel inoperable.

It's all about that scrolling ball

    • Written by from McKinney

The Good: The rest of the functionality of this mouse is great. Meets all the needs that a designer could ask for. Have been using it for years now.

Like any mouse with a scrolling ball, it gets dirty. That's not the issue, the issue is finding a way to clean it. I had to pry mine open with a letter opener, unfasten two electrical strips, three screws and a clip that holds the ball down. If it wasn't for the spare mouse (one that had the same issue before) I wouldn't have a mouse right now.
