    More functionality than Magic Mouse

    • Written by from Rockford

Yes the scroll ball get's gunked up from time to time, but this mouse has effectively four buttons which is necessary for me. I assign expose and spaces to buttons, so this mouse has left click, right click, center click, and side button clicks.

The newer mouse is nice and sleek and certainly doesn't experience the scroll ball issues (since it doesn't have one), but it loses functionality. I would like to see a wireless version of this mouse with the scroll ball issues resolved or better yet, get rid of the scroll ball, but I need 4 buttons

    Old Mouse

    • Written by from Ilion

The person I bought my Mac from had it since 2007, and had the mouse that long too. The scroll ball never worked from the day I got it which is no problem to me, i never used one on a PC either, I always just pressed the up, down, left, right buttons. But everything else has worked fine.... but now the side buttons are on the fritz. I honestly think i got something stuck in them thought. :/ But over all this mouse has been fine and it's more than sufficient especially for how old it is. All the people writing on here about having to buy a new one every 6 or 7 months, get over it? Seriously this mouse is great for what it needs to do. You don;t need to replace it :]

    Enjoy it for 6-7 months

    • Written by from Golden Valley

You will Enjoy it for 6-7 months while it's working, then you need to buy a new one :-(
There is no way to clean it without having a special tools to disassemble.

    Decent product

    • Written by from New Albany

There are several horrible reviews about this mouse and they all stem from the fact the scrolling ball gets messed up easily. It is true that the ball will stop scrolling and it is extremely annoying. However, if you take a damp paper towel, turn the mouse upside down and rub the paper towel over it, the ball will roll like new.

I personally love it. It is easily customizable and very precise. I would definitely buy it again.

    Not bad, keep it clean.

    • Written by from Petaluma

I started my new job, and the CPU I was assigned to had the mighty mouse. I was told that it worked great, yet the scroll function didn't work. I used the white paper trick, with a tiny bit of saliva. Works like new. Expose is great; right click works well just not at the same time as left. I don't recommend this mouse for any serious gaming. Otherwise good little mouse. You'd be surprised at how quick people are to write things off as bad products when they just need to take a little better care of them.

I love apple product and this is a very nice one. It is also a lot more comfortable than the new magic mouse. I'd say, Valuable.

    Awesome mouse

    • Written by from Somerville

Despite what ergonomics experts say about this mouse, it feels comfortable in my hand and the scroll ball has spoiled me. I'm primarily a PC user and I find this a dream to use in Windows. I have three of these mice and use them on all of my machines. I'm fairly certain I'm the only person who walks into a Starbucks and pulls out an Apple mouse to connect to a ThinkPad.

The side-squeeze button defaults to behaving as a 'back' button in browsers, which is really quite useful. I wish the BootCamp drivers allowed that action to be customized, but I'm fairly happy with its utility either way.

My only gripe with the mouse is the inability to simultaneously left and right click or go immediately from right click to left click. This just means I have to connect a second Apple mouse or use a different mouse if I want to play an FPS.

i know of 2 different versions, they look close to the same.

    • Written by from Southfield

Flat out, the only issues that plague this mouse are

    1) Scroll Ball and Filth/Grease/skin oils

    2) Right Click and Left Click at the same time
Magic mouse has the same issue, but with the Magic mouse
there is a software hack to make the right and left work, not sure
if that software works with the mighty mouse.

I am not sure what revision deals better with skin oil and a gummed up scroll wheel, but there are some versions of the Mighty Mouse, Aka, Apple Mouse, that are less sensitive to dirt oil in the ball.

some professionals have seriously been using the magic mouse for many years, with out any issues with the scroll ball.

so i don't know... i personally had (1) mighty mouse back in 2007 where the scroll ball stopped working, You cant service these things, they are glued together.
it would be one thing if you could replace the scroll unit for like 6.95 + shipping.

i just found some new old stock Mighty mouses for 10 dollars each... so i bought 3, so far the wheel's are all working like they should, I will try that white paper trick, and if that doesn't work i may lick it ... ( if these stop working ) they may not.

i had the version that stopped working at home... i compared it to the 3 i just bought and the one from 2007 was labeled a little different, might have been manufactured by different contract. Made inTaiwan VS made in china, pretty sure if my memory is correct. one thing is for sure they were a hair different.

    Make it scroll again

    • Written by

I just had the experience of the mouse not scrolling down. I washed my hands, inverted the mouse and rubbed it on a new piece of white paper. Tried this several times. No luck. I was getting desperate and a little annoyed and was thinking about buying another mouse. Then I thought hey maybe if I dampen the wheel it might clean better. You guessed it. I licked the wheel and went back to the white paper. Presto! It worked like a charm.
If you can't join them, lick em.

    Great, but one catch

    • Written by from Romeoville

This Mighty Mouse Is Great. I Tried working it with my old 2002 iMac (With runs Mac OS X 10.2.8 Jaguar), and it actually works. As of right now, Im using it with Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger, and it works great except for one thing... The track ball sometimes doesn't scroll up or down, but works in any other way. If I where you, i would get the Magic Mouse, that seems to work allot better then this mouse.

Need to learn to disassemble & clean

    • Written by from Lanham

Once you learn to disassemble and clean the ball, it's a workhorse. I've done it three times in the last three years (feels like new every time), and it's been without any problems at all. Expect to spend 30 minutes or more. Of course, there's something to be said about why one is forced to clean it in the first place ...

    like it!

    • Written by from AGANA HEIGHTS

The good: It's better than the bluetooth version because is not heavy to use and move.

The bad: price. it's too expensive!.

Recommendation: for those who says that the scroll get screwed just turn down the mouse and scroll it against a piece of paper. it works like a charm again!.

Just experienced the scroll ball issue

    • Written by from Huntington Beach

And resolved by using a recommendation from another user...

Disconnect the mouse from the computer, (I used a VERY lightly damp paper towel), turned the mouse upside down and rub on towel vigorously, on the damp side, and then the dry side. Worked like a charm :) Thanks!

Ball sticks but it's easy to clean

    • Written by from West Palm Beach

Remove the mouse from computer. Turn the mouse upside down and, on a clean sheet of paper, rotate the ball quite vigorously. Less than a minute should do it. That will disperse any buildup of oil or dirt that came from your finger, and the mouse is as good as new. I almost threw mine away. I'm so glad I didn't.

Great mouse! But the wire is too shot for right-handed people.

    • Written by from 山口市

The reason that I gave it only 4 stars is the mouse's wire connect to USB slot on Mac somehow too shot for right-handed people (at least for me) since the two USB slots are located on the left side of the computer. I hope Apple will improve this in the near future.

    • Written by

So my roller ball on my mouse quit working and has been driving me nuts to the point I don't even get on the computer much( I'm a single mom so I have to save up to buy a new mouse) So I was on here looking at prices and I read this one persons thing about wash your hands then turn the mouse upside down and roll it around on a plain white sheet of paper. So I try it and I am pleased to say it worked!!! Thank goodness I was not looking forward to shelling out $60 for a mouse.

    Great Mouse

I've had this mouse for over a year and still love it. Yes, the scroll ball gets dirty but all of the trouble shooting tips on the site have worked for me. I would definitely buy it again.
