    Scroll Ball nightmare

    • Written by from Woodbridge

The scroll ball will constantly become clogged with use and no longer perform. My family have gone through 10 mice in the past year. Thats right 10. We have the extended warrantee. Otherwise, it would be $49 each time. Scroll ball needs major redesign.

    COMPLETELY WORTHLESS!!!!!

    • Written by

I bought a new Apple desktop computer a couple of months ago and found myself going back to the store because the scrolling button on the mouse stopped working. They tested it in the store and it started working again. So, I took it home and it worked for about a month. Now the scrolling ball will not scroll down. It never really scrolled horizontally!!! So, back to the Apple store I go with this WORTHLESS GARBAGE!!! I'm UPSET beyond words, but take some solace in knowing I'm not alone. Apple should take this junk off the market.

    Inconsistent Scrolling

    • Written by from Santa Monica

The Mighty Mouse is sleek and efficient but the scrolling ball is just pathetic. After a few months it will not scroll either up or down. You have to clean it with a disinfectant wipe and hope that solves the issue.

Extremely poor quality - very unlike Apple

    • Written by from New York

Save your money and buy a real mouse from Logitech. The scroll ball in this mouse is so fragile and sensitive. I've had it for less than two months and the thing has stopped working. I can't scroll up anymore - an extreme annoyance. Now I've got to hike up to the Apple store to see if they can fix it or return it. Apple needs to do better quality testing.

    it's sad but true

    • Written by from Calgary

sadly, this is one of the most unreliable apple products I have ever purchased.

within only a couple of months use, the scroll ball has stopped tracking downwards, and will now only scroll up -- such a pain.

what really gets me is that this product has a fairly high price point -- all of these problems should be addressed immediately by apple. this is defective by design, and for all those of us (sad saps) who bought them should be able to get what we paid for ... a fully functional mouse :(

take a look around and see how many other people are saying the same thing

How the Mighty Mouse Has Fallen

    • Written by

In the space of four years I have had six or seven of what used to be called "Mighty Mouse." All have malfunctioned. And all have been replaced at my local Apple Store. The scroll ball stops functioning -- and nothing I do can fix it. This may well be the worst product ever produced by Apple. And I note that it is now called "Apple Mouse," the misnomer "Mighty" having been abandoned -- for good reason.

I use an Imac -- and It is very frustrating to constantly experience the same problem with each successive mouse. Can't Apple, clearly the world's most sophisticated technology company, make a simple wired mouse that doesn't repeatedly fail?

I used this mouse in journalism and photoshop classes and I cannot deal with it! The ball never works and it is not ergonomically correct at all. I would not recommend this at any price.

Been through too many of these things...

    • Written by from London

I am on my third mouse and have given up replacing it. When I get a new one it will work fine for awhile but then it will only scroll in one direction. Shortly after that it will stop scrolling all together. They have all had the same problem.

    rollerball

    • Written by from Putney

Have been having rollerball trouble for months now. have tried various methods of cleaning, soft cloth, paper towel, water, alcohol. Some work sometimes, not other times.
Time for Apple to design a new one that works all the time. And then replace all the defective ones out there gratis. Let's go guys... do it now!

    Lousy

    • Written by from Carbondale

I agree with those complaining about this mouse. The rollerball thing stopped working after three months (it now only scrolls up).

I also find the side button squeeze feature more a distraction than a help, though others may have better luck with this.

Apple ought to recall this mouse and provide costumers with a better one.

The ball that allows u to scroll up and down always gets locked up and still rolls, but you are unable to actually scroll the page! For how much you pay for a MAC you'd think they'd give u a well working mouse along with it!

    Cool, then eventually worthless

    • Written by from Pasadena

I was one of those people that was so impressed with what I thought was finally a mouse that got it right. Boy, was I wrong.

I've had two of these, one at work and one at home. The mini scroll ball constantly clogs up and even flipping it upside-down and rolling it about (as recommended to maintain it online) will only work so long.

The "buttons" are at best buggy. After nearly a year of use, I still have a high degree of accidental miss-clicks. The mouse really wants to be a one button mouse, which is fine if you're a life long Mac user, but less than ideal for those of us that came from Windows, Linux and Unix backgrounds.

The fourth button also has a tendency to go haywire too, which can be particularly awkward if you enable it for Spaces or Exposé.

Eventually the mouse completely the fails and you have to disable scrolling and right-clicking, and you'll be forced to buy another one, or just go back to a regular scroll mouse.

    Nice but...

    • Written by from Cary

I purchased this mouse so I could use it frequently with Photoshop in repairing photos and scrolling and multiple angles to check out different parts and to fix them.

However right around 40 days of use the thing just stopped working for the scrolling feature and gave out entirely. It's now completely useless and I'm very upset with it as everything is a pain to now manually go to the right and scroll bar on the right side of everything and fixing photos is now nearly impossible to do with this thing as it now incorrectly scrolls up randomly all the time messing up anything I'm doing whether it's surfing on ways to fix it or fixing my photos.

Mainly it was great at first but I don't feel the durability of this product gives up to other things from Apple and it's a great letdown. Mainly just upset as it's a fantastic product at first until it breaks; which it'll do far too fast.

    DO NOT BUY THIS MOUSE!!!!!!!!!!

    • Written by from Fairfax

IF you buy a mac and this mouse comes with your mac. Throw it away or never use. Do not buy this mouse. I have gone through two of them already. This is the absolute worse mouse to use. Apple really screwed up on this. Buy a logitech or Microsoft mouse for your mac. Trust me

    Faulty design

    • Written by from TORONTO

Apple needs to build a better mouse. This is the 3rd mouse in 2 years. The scroll button always malfunctions in exactly the same way - won't scroll down - and doesn't return to proper functionality even after following Apple's cleaning directions. I brought the last one into the Apple Store and they couldn't get it to work.

Very disappointing and frustrating. I love Apple products and I'll probably be a Mac person for life, but this mouse is flawed.

    Worst Apple Product

    • Written by from Bronx

After going through not one but three of them I am thinking it is the worst product in Apple's line-up. By the end of my experience I ended up buying the cheapest Logitech mouse I could find in frustration one night and it works to this day outlasting three Apple mice at a fraction of the cost. I missed the squeeze function but that is nothing compared to the frustration of faulty scroller ball.

The roller ball is the critical flaw, how they could not get something correct that is used so much amazes me. It will cease operating. You will clean it, it will function for a week or two and it will again sputter. On the first go around I gave it a second chance and ordered another. Repeat entire issue.

On the third go around I bought the wireless and made every attempt to keep my work area as clean as an Intel chip production factor floor. Still repeat on the roller ball jam up.

Part of me wanted to demand all of my money back on it.

I am ordering the new magic mouse with great optimism and here is to hoping Apple has finally got their mouse issue fixed. It is really the only piece of Apple Hardware that I have had massive disappointment on.
