    Don't kill the mouse

    • Written by from Richardson

This is a great mouse -- it is very precise and, if the scroll ball stops working, it's most likely because it has crud in it (probably because you didn't wash your hands -- just kidding); just press down hard and roll it around and it will get unstuck.

    Roller Ball Stops Working!

    • Written by from Austin

This mouse works great at first but after a few months the roller ball stops working. I've gone through two of these over the past year and a half. Also I find the side squeeze buttons stop working over time too.

I'm looking towards the Magic Mouse and hope it doesn't have all the moving part problems this one does.

    Scroll Ball Short Life

    • Written by from Haymarket

Have had 2 mouses in the past 2 years because after a few months the scroll ball stops working. With averge use (i.e. no excessive or rough handling) and not being used by a young child, it just stops working. The rest of the mouse works great but considering most web pages are longer than a screen and requires scrolling up/down, it's very frustrating to have to use the scroll bar on the browser. Considering the Apple mouse isn't cheap, I wish Apple would fix the issue or at least offer free replacement after repeated breakdowns.

Sadly one of the worst mice I have come across.

    • Written by from Moody

While it is a nice looking mouse, the fact is that once it becomes dirty it becomes garbage. Having 4 Macs in my house and having replaced every mouse that came with them at least once I cannot bring myself to give this mouse a good rating. Do yourself a favor... when your factory mouse's scroll ball gets dirty, throw it in the trash and go buy a logitech.

    Apple Mouse

    • Written by

The mouse was included in my Jan, 2008 IMac purchase. The roller ball stopped working a short time after my purchase. While cleaning my desk I decided to clean the mouse. I dampened a paper towel with Window Cleaner and kept running the towel over the ball. It now works like a charm. The only issue I have the curser jumps around quite often, not sure why.

    More functionality than Magic Mouse

    • Written by from Rockford

Yes the scroll ball get's gunked up from time to time, but this mouse has effectively four buttons which is necessary for me. I assign expose and spaces to buttons, so this mouse has left click, right click, center click, and side button clicks.

The newer mouse is nice and sleek and certainly doesn't experience the scroll ball issues (since it doesn't have one), but it loses functionality. I would like to see a wireless version of this mouse with the scroll ball issues resolved or better yet, get rid of the scroll ball, but I need 4 buttons

    Old Mouse

    • Written by from Ilion

The person I bought my Mac from had it since 2007, and had the mouse that long too. The scroll ball never worked from the day I got it which is no problem to me, i never used one on a PC either, I always just pressed the up, down, left, right buttons. But everything else has worked fine.... but now the side buttons are on the fritz. I honestly think i got something stuck in them thought. :/ But over all this mouse has been fine and it's more than sufficient especially for how old it is. All the people writing on here about having to buy a new one every 6 or 7 months, get over it? Seriously this mouse is great for what it needs to do. You don;t need to replace it :]

    Enjoy it for 6-7 months

    • Written by from Golden Valley

You will Enjoy it for 6-7 months while it's working, then you need to buy a new one :-(
There is no way to clean it without having a special tools to disassemble.

    worst mouse ever

    • Written by from Cuxhaven

After a few month the scroll wheel stopped working, and after cleaning it , it was working again for some weeks.
After cleaning multiple times, now the scrollwheel is no longer working at all how it should.

Apple should take all mice back due to bad design.

    Can't scroll

    • Written by from Katy

My scroll button became unresponsive to downward scrolling after about one year of frequent use. Mouse has never been dropped or mistreated. It's unfortunate because the white Apple mouse looks so stylish.

    Short Cord

    • Written by from San Jose

I bought this mouse to use with my 15" macbook pro, but being as all the ports are on the left side of my macbook, the cord is too short to stretch all the way around to the right side. I have to put the cord over the keyboard to use it with my right hand.
Not good! Knew I should have gone wireless.

3 years daily usage; never a problem

    • Written by from oklahoma City

I'm writing this review primarily because I wanted to offer a different perspective from some of the other reviews I see here.

I've been using the cordless version of this mouse for 3 years, ever since I purchased my iMac. I use it for several hours a day, doing a lot of work that requires me to move things around the screen. It hasn't caused a single problem. I must have the world's cleanest hands because the roller ball hasn't even clogged up.

I don't know if I'm lucky or what. But my ONLY complaint about this mouse is that it won't wear out, so I never have an excuse to try some of the new ones.

Do I HAVE To Pick A Star??

    • Written by

Right around 8 months after I purchased my iMac, the mouse started going nuts--shooting all over the screen and "selecting" things I hadn't intended. Couldn't figure out a way to clean it, so just put up with it. Now, another 8 months has gone by. Genius Bar "cleaned" it for me...lasted 12 hours. So, now I have to spend at least $50 to replace it? So stinks. One star rating coz I can't pick zero! Apple Customer since 1985 (who used to clean her own mouse!)

    Decent product

    • Written by from New Albany

There are several horrible reviews about this mouse and they all stem from the fact the scrolling ball gets messed up easily. It is true that the ball will stop scrolling and it is extremely annoying. However, if you take a damp paper towel, turn the mouse upside down and rub the paper towel over it, the ball will roll like new.

I personally love it. It is easily customizable and very precise. I would definitely buy it again.
