    Terrible Mouse

    • Written by from Fairview

I went though at least one mouse per year until we upgraded to the new Magic Mouse. Many problems with it, most common was the scroll ball not working. One of Apple's worst products and would not buy this mouse again.

    no good

    • Written by from North Hollywood

works for a few weeks tops, then the side buttons get real finicky and the scroll ball becomes useless.

We had 50 of these in the library at school and it happened to EVERY SINGLE ONE.

The trackball fails to work multiple times a session. The non-funtioning trackball cannot be disassembled to be cleaned. It's maddening!

    Poorly designed.

    • Written by

The 1st one that came with my iMac lasted 8-9 months before it started being difficult, scrolling problems. Only much later after much frustration did I search about it to find all kinds of bad comments. I bought a new one that lasted a few months, replaced under warranty, that lasted about the same time & replaced. Finally after another 6 months when it started going bad, I just replaced it with a LogiTec that has been fine. It's clear that this was a poorly designed piece of equipment that should have been recalled and replaced with a non-defective mouse. It doesn't deserve a 1 star rating and you can't do your own service on this piece of junk.

    Failure of the scroll bar

    • Written by from Laval

It seems I'm not the only one experiencing this problem! I started having troubles using the scrolling ball not even one year after getting it. I was able to get it back to normal by cleaning and rubbing the ball but the problem came back over and over and now it's just not working anymore and it's really annoying. I have to use scroll bars all the time - and for a graphic designer, it's a real pain. Cannot believe its price is so high - any 'normal' mouse would be much better than that - for like $10.

    Roller Ball Stops Working!

    • Written by from Austin

This mouse works great at first but after a few months the roller ball stops working. I've gone through two of these over the past year and a half. Also I find the side squeeze buttons stop working over time too.

I'm looking towards the Magic Mouse and hope it doesn't have all the moving part problems this one does.

    rollerball

    • Written by from Alpharetta

overall the mouse itself doesn't bother me, I learned how to use it well enough. The rollerball or scroll ball however is very bad. I use the scroll on any mouse I use and this is the WORST I have ever come across. I lost the ability to scroll down so it looks like I have to go buy a new mouse!!! It is only 15 months old...I love my iMac but shame on Apple for allowing such a poorly designed mouse to stay on the market with so many bad reviews!

agree with all comments on scroll ball, stops working within a year and can get it to work with the cleaning suggested but only lasts seconds then have to clean it again, very annoying, really makes the scroller ball useless

Clean hands but mouse still dirty

    • Written by from Ladonia

Many of the positive reviews blame the dirty mouse on the user eating junk food, having a dirty house or being picky. I have gone through at least 4 mice and found the same thing to happen every time no matter how often I clean it or my hands.
With that said, an odd thing happened once after doing some system diagnostics, the mouse worked for a day-and-a-half; right out of the blue, no cleaning - it just started working while I had an Apple Tech. on the phone. After we corrected the software problem I was having I told her about the mouse, when she asked for the symptoms, I used the mouse so I'd be able to report the problem exactly but there was nothing wrong with it.

Once again about the scrolling ball!

    • Written by from sharon

I want to share my experience with this product. I was exited to get the mouse: it lay perfectly in my hand, buttons are comfortable and it would be absolutely perfect if the scrolling ball didn't stop to scroll up at first - then stopped scrolling at all!
What a disappointment! Shame on you Apple!

    Great mouse... not!!

    • Written by from Portland

Three months use is all I got out of it, before the roller died. I am disappointed that $50 only gets you a temporary mouse.

    Design faults

    • Written by

Hi im a UK user and I got my mac after my husband desided i would get more use out of it creatively, I was also gaming a lot on it and enjoyed the panoramic views I got with my screen and high definition in wow. Then after about 1 year I got the same issues as the other users here.
    1) the mouse cable is too short to use on conventional desks so I got an extention.
    2) the roller ball doesnt work for scrolling which links in wow terms to zoom in or out and for healing limits you by 1 button.
    3) there is only one side button and only two buttons that can only be used alternatetly.
    4) I have to scrape the dust and grime off the bottom of my mouse every week!
    5) the pointer will periodically jump from one side of the screen to the other randomly!
    6) the size of the mouse means that users who are on the mac all day will get a sore polished effect on their hand where it rubs on the desk.

So to sumarise you get 3 less buttons than a £3 Tesco value mouse and half the wire length. The price tag on this mouse has got to go! Only thing is when you use a microsoft mouse you can't use the side button fuction or any other customised fuctions on the mouse. Thought that the mac was supposed to be accessory friendly but its not. (btw not just the mouse the keyboard I have is microsoft too and it wont let me use EU settings and crashes it!)

    Seriously Disappointed!

    • Written by from Midland

I purchased the wireless mighty mouse and like SO MANY other's I had issue's with the roller ball getting dirty no matter how many attempts i made to clean it, the ball eventually stopped working after only a few months! I had read the negative reviews prior to purchasing and even discussed them with an Apple Representative who assured me this was not an issue to worry about. I went ahead and purchased this mouse and much to my dismay I am out the $90 dollars I paid for it! If anyone reads this PLEASE pay attention to the overall concensus of the reviews written here and let the "majority" of opinion good or bad be the governing factor when you make your next purchase. In this case the majority of reviewers all agree this is NOT a good product and a waste of your hard earned money! I am by no means disgruntled since it was my choice to make the purchase regardless of the negative reviews. I am still loyal to the Apple products and since have purchased the new Magic Mouse which i am very happy with so far.

I've had this mouse for under two weeks and the scroll ball completely quit working! I have been using it very minimally with no greasy fingers or anything. My office is clean and smoke free. Normally I love MAC products, but this one really needs to be scrapped!

    This is Junk!

    • Written by from El Paso

This mouse is one of Apple's major flops. The scroll ball doesn't work and the thing always has gunk in it. I tried cleaning it and the scroll ball still didn't work so, I plugged in my purple OS 9 mouse in and it worked like gold. Don't buy this!

    JUNK

    • Written by from Midland

I have recently become a huge fan of so much that Apple has to offer. iPhone / iMac and such. The mouse that came with the iMac was this mouse. It was fine for about 5 months then the roller ball started to not work well. I've cleaned and cleaned and cleaned...to no avail. The side buttons became so sensitive that I couldn't grab the mouse without engaging them. I finally had to turn off the action that was associated with them. The roller ball because useless about 3 months ago. This has been the one Apple item that I could not stand. Almost as if it was the job of some summer intern to come up with this design. I look forward to using the new mouse just released today.
