Once again about the scrolling ball!

    • Written by from sharon

I want to share my experience with this product. I was exited to get the mouse: it lay perfectly in my hand, buttons are comfortable and it would be absolutely perfect if the scrolling ball didn't stop to scroll up at first - then stopped scrolling at all!
What a disappointment! Shame on you Apple!

    Great mouse... not!!

    • Written by from Portland

Three months use is all I got out of it, before the roller died. I am disappointed that $50 only gets you a temporary mouse.

    Design faults

    • Written by

Hi im a UK user and I got my mac after my husband desided i would get more use out of it creatively, I was also gaming a lot on it and enjoyed the panoramic views I got with my screen and high definition in wow. Then after about 1 year I got the same issues as the other users here.
    1) the mouse cable is too short to use on conventional desks so I got an extention.
    2) the roller ball doesnt work for scrolling which links in wow terms to zoom in or out and for healing limits you by 1 button.
    3) there is only one side button and only two buttons that can only be used alternatetly.
    4) I have to scrape the dust and grime off the bottom of my mouse every week!
    5) the pointer will periodically jump from one side of the screen to the other randomly!
    6) the size of the mouse means that users who are on the mac all day will get a sore polished effect on their hand where it rubs on the desk.

So to sumarise you get 3 less buttons than a £3 Tesco value mouse and half the wire length. The price tag on this mouse has got to go! Only thing is when you use a microsoft mouse you can't use the side button fuction or any other customised fuctions on the mouse. Thought that the mac was supposed to be accessory friendly but its not. (btw not just the mouse the keyboard I have is microsoft too and it wont let me use EU settings and crashes it!)

    Seriously Disappointed!

    • Written by from Midland

I purchased the wireless mighty mouse and like SO MANY other's I had issue's with the roller ball getting dirty no matter how many attempts i made to clean it, the ball eventually stopped working after only a few months! I had read the negative reviews prior to purchasing and even discussed them with an Apple Representative who assured me this was not an issue to worry about. I went ahead and purchased this mouse and much to my dismay I am out the $90 dollars I paid for it! If anyone reads this PLEASE pay attention to the overall concensus of the reviews written here and let the "majority" of opinion good or bad be the governing factor when you make your next purchase. In this case the majority of reviewers all agree this is NOT a good product and a waste of your hard earned money! I am by no means disgruntled since it was my choice to make the purchase regardless of the negative reviews. I am still loyal to the Apple products and since have purchased the new Magic Mouse which i am very happy with so far.

    Disappointment

I've had this mouse for under two weeks and the scroll ball completely quit working! I have been using it very minimally with no greasy fingers or anything. My office is clean and smoke free. Normally I love MAC products, but this one really needs to be scrapped!

    This is Junk!

    • Written by from El Paso

This mouse is one of Apple's major flops. The scroll ball doesn't work and the thing always has gunk in it. I tried cleaning it and the scroll ball still didn't work so, I plugged in my purple OS 9 mouse in and it worked like gold. Don't buy this!

    bad mouse

    • Written by from Gainesville

this mouse is great, briefly, but it is unreliable and the wonderful scroll button gets greasy and does not work properly, fast. I even tried another one, same problem.

why can't Microsoft make an ergonimic mouse that works well?

    JUNK

    • Written by from Midland

I have recently become a huge fan of so much that Apple has to offer. iPhone / iMac and such. The mouse that came with the iMac was this mouse. It was fine for about 5 months then the roller ball started to not work well. I've cleaned and cleaned and cleaned...to no avail. The side buttons became so sensitive that I couldn't grab the mouse without engaging them. I finally had to turn off the action that was associated with them. The roller ball because useless about 3 months ago. This has been the one Apple item that I could not stand. Almost as if it was the job of some summer intern to come up with this design. I look forward to using the new mouse just released today.

    Scroll Ball

These are great calendars: you know it's been exactly 13 months since you got it because that's when the scroll wheel dies.

    Great idea. Horrible execution.

    Broken Mighty Mouse

    • Written by from Banbury

I am a convert from the PC world and love my imac of 18 months. My only issue is the Mighty Mouse. At about six months the scroll stopped working. Due to it not being designed for taking apart to assist in cleaning, I took it back to the shop. They took it up stairs to the Genius Bar to blow high pressure air through it. It helped, but never really sorted it.
I have cleaned it as directed and I am not a heavy handed user, but a disappointed one, that such a small, but relatively expensive part should blight my enjoyment and conversion to the mac world.

    Scroll Ball Failure

This is the one Apple product not worth buying. Apple needs to fix the scroll ball problem, until they do, don't spend your money on this.

Advice: I would not buy this mouse

    • Written by from Takoma Park

This is the second one of these mice that I've had in 1.5 years whose scroll ball has jammed due to debris, and thanks to Apple's innovative "you can't open it" design, has turned into a $50 paperweight. Just brilliant. Off to buy a non-Apple mouse now.

Apple, I like your stuff, but this mouse is a lousy design--form before function. A real lemon.

Not at par with the Mac - very frustrating

    • Written by from Edina

I love my new Mac, however, the mouse is very frustrating to use. The ball becomes sticky frequently and it only scrolls in one direction. So, I have a cloth close by to clean it. I clean it by putting the mouse upside down and tapping gently the track ball. Then, a few days later it is sticky again!! I can't believe that Apple has not yet created a stand alone pad like it has developed for the laptops.

    Scroll ball a total failure

    • Written by from Greensboro

I like the ergonomics of this mouse, but the scroll ball is always failing. It will scroll down almost all of the time, but odds of it being able to scroll up are at best fifty fifty. I don't know if dirt gets in or what the problem is, but they seem to be good for a couple of months at best. Very aggravating.

    Useless. Unworthy of my MAC.

    • Written by from Manchester

Apple products have been exceptional for me, and I've had no trouble for 9 years now with MAC products. I'm actually surprised to be writing a bad review on this website.

This is the first Apple product I've had trouble with - but it simply isn't worth the effort. Don't get it. It doesn't work well. If you are considering getting this wireless mouse, make sure that you also get a regular mouse - you'll be using it about half the time.

Didn't work after 10 seconds of use

    • Written by from Newmarket

the mighty mouse is terrible. I love the design... but the scroll ball doesn't work. I bought a new iMac and when I plugged in the mighty mouse the ball only scrolled down not up. After a few minutes of trying to fix it I went back to return it and get a new one. 10 seconds later, ball stops working.

    don't touch

    • Written by from Ventura

If you want a mouse that is as likely to mistake your right-click for a left-click as not, and will ignore about one fourth of your left-clicks altogether (how can it do that when it claims a priority of left over right? any old click should _at least_ produce a left-click), then this is the mouse for you!
My hands are not large, and the fact that I have to move my hand a lot to avoid touching the mouse where it will confuse it sacrifices a lot of speed...why does the back have to be so tall and fat? Perhaps that is good for some hands - not mine!
Apple - "innovative" is only good when you make it WORK!

    Needs a major redesign

    • Written by from Arlington

This mouse was great when it came out, but the design really needs to be fixed.

    Pro:
-Unlike any mouse I've seen it scrolls right and left
    -White matches the mac

    Con:
-Brand new out of the box and it squeaks. A plastic on plastic squeak.
-This is my third mouse and the trackball always eventually sticks. This is not so much a bad thing, almost everyone's desk gets dusty and your hands have oils on them, but you can't properly clean this mouse. You can wipe the top, etc, but why can't you open it up and give the wheels inside a scrub down?

Come on guys, it is time for an update.

    The best and the worst

    • Written by from Perris

I have to agree that the scroll ball is one of the best inventions ever. It's tiny, unobtrusive, easy to use, you can scroll in every direction, and it's so indispensable that when it finally dies, you will want to hurl your mouse to the floor and stomp on it. We have been through 5 of them, (on three different Macs in our homeschool), and they all die in short order once the ball gets a tiny bit of dirt into it. We have three cats, so ours get plugged with tiny bits of fur and die on a regular basis. I did discover videos online that teach you how to crack them open and clean them, but it's akin to surgery, and if you don't do it just right, you will kill the mouse. In any case, I have to break into them every few months and gut and clean them, and in all of my years of Mac computing, I've never had such a faulty mouse. So frustrating! But still a wonderful design, just poorly executed.
