    Nevertheless disappointing

    • Written by from La Begude de Mazenc

I trusted it like everything else from Apple, but sadness finally invaded myself.

First, you can't count on playing game (you have only one physical button so you can't click a side without releasing the other one). So frustrating…

Then after a few months I couldn't scroll down (only up) and can't scroll up either at all after one year. (only left and right which is pretty annoying)

That's it. This mouse is perfect to browse your OS and FileSys. It's perfect for any graphical app as well as the classic - all days - MacOS use. But don't expect playing with it at all. Unless you play RTS or really slow / not action game.

I'm gonna try to clean it anyway, but two of my mates broke their doing it. So i'm gonna take my time. Magic one seems cool though. Will write a review as soon as I got one.

    Can't scroll

    • Written by from Katy

My scroll button became unresponsive to downward scrolling after about one year of frequent use. Mouse has never been dropped or mistreated. It's unfortunate because the white Apple mouse looks so stylish.

    Apple Mouse, not so Mighty.

    • Written by from Miramichi

The apple mouse or (Mighty Mouse) as some have called it, is a great little mouse. I enjoy the features it does have, the 360 scroll ball, the pressure sensors on the side really come in handy, and it just overall has a good feel.

The downside to this mouse is the high maintenance, you need to clean it every day or the ball will stop scrolling, and the bottom will collect a lot of dust.

If you don't mind high maintenance than you should get it for the features it does have. However I don't believe it's worth the price they ask (as with any apple product).

    Track Ball Cleaning Suggestion

    • Written by from Forest Grove

My MM is 4 years old. The scroll down feature quit working after 18 months. I took a Q-tip, dipped it in rubbing alcohol and rubbed it over the scroll ball multiple times in all directions. The Q-tip got noticeably dirty. I repeated it with another clean Q-tip. I let the alcohol dry a few minutes and then tested it out. It worked like a champ. I have had to repeat this process several times over the past few years. Every time it seems to work. I imagine it will eventually stop recovering the scroll feature but so far it seems to do the trick. Good luck.

NICE BUT THE SCROLL BALL DOES NOT WORK

    • Written by from Chicago

Nice, small and gorgeous mouse, but the scroll ball does not work properly, and it´s really a headache when you most need it.
Apple needs to work in the scroll ball.

It works just need some help

    • Written by from KITCHENER

Like most of the reviewers, I agree the ball does stop working now and again. I have used the same mighty mouse for close to 5 years almost daily and I would say I need to flip it over and spin it on paper or a mouse pad at least twice a month. If they ever made this mouse with the magic mouse scroll capabilities or that pad they have on the new blackberry's apple would by far have the best mouse on the market.

Pros: touch sensitive left AND right click, being able to click down on the scroll ball (great for expose) and additional side buttons

Cons: Scroll ball issues, 2 side buttons must be clicked together to work would be good if each side button could have its own control.

I will be greatly looking forword to an updated mighty mouse as the magic mouse lacks some of the mighty mouse features ie. ball click ann side buttons

so, i got an imac for my birthday when i turned 16, it's less than a month from my 18th birthday now, and the scroll ball on my mouse is giving out and has been for a few months. it doesn't seem to like to scroll down anymore. big problem since clearly every page i basically have to scroll down on. but overall it's pretty good, just needs a new way to not have the scroll break.. aka the newest mouse!

    The scroll ball fix works

    • Written by from Kearns

This mouse gets low marks mostly because of problems with the scroll ball. My mouse was acting up, too. I read the "fix" of turning the mouse over and vigorously rubbing it on a white piece of paper (in order to see the dirt coming off it). I was about ready to pitch the mouse, so I got quite aggressive in the rubbing process. There wasn't much to lose. Well . . . the process works; the thing scrolls just fine, now. I really like this mouse, and it's too bad the solution to a common problem of sticking roller balls isn't very straight forward.

Not great, but not as bad as indicated here

    • Written by from Lincoln

This mouse is alright, but the new magic mouse is better. It is true that the wheel often gets dirty, but this is an easy fix (albeit a pain in the rear). All you need to do is turn the mouse over and press down firmly while rolling the wheel against the paper to clean it; this will restore the wheel's functionality. I feel kinda bad for the people that just tossed their mice out when a simple google search would have yielded a solution.

    problematic, good when working

    • Written by from PORTLAND

When it works it is a great mouse. The scroller ball is prone to failure, although if you turn it upside down and wipe it with a tissue with alcohol on it (hold the ball in place with one of your figernails at different positions so you can actually WIPE it and not just move it around) this seems to clear up that issue. The other problem I have encountered is that the plastic coating around the wires breaks where it connects with the mouse because the coating is not flexible enough to allow more than say 30 degrees away from straight for the first 2 inches or so (!!), putting great strain on this part so that it breaks and exposes the wires.

Only a little on the 'wormy' side ...

    • Written by from Chesapeake

This product is not "flawless" as claimed by some. It's a mechanical item, just like any other and subject to having some quirks -- or just flat out breaking.
It's the scroll button that seems to go first. I'm on replacement #2.
The product does work, but eventually the odds are that you will have to replace it.

Pretty good mouse, bad scroll ball

    • Written by from Lowell

I thought the mouse was a pretty good product except for the scroll ball. It kept getting grime on it and would stop scrolling. Then I would have to clean it. I would get a different mouse if I were you.

    Scroll ball bummer

    • Written by from Tacoma

The scroll ball stops working every once in a while, so it will not scroll up or down. The best fix is to unplug it, turn it upside down on a sheet of copy paper, and rub the scroll ball with firm pressure on the paper. It will leave streaks of grime that come off the ball, but will restore the scroll function. Think of it as "routine maintenance".

    Ball Malfunction-Easy Fix

    • Written by from Philadelphia

Yes. We've had this mouse for a few months only and all of a sudden the trackball wouldn't scroll down. Up and sideways were just fine. Came across one review which recommended the rolling ball VIGOROUSLY for bit. It worked!

Mouse now works just like new. Probably accumulated some debris but was easy enough to dislodge.

    @ CS from Brantford:
Thanks. I completely forgot about turning the mouse upside down.

    Clean Fix

    • Written by from Sacramento

I went to the Apple Store to shop for a mouse, as I thought my present one had had it. I got about a year and a half out of it before it stopped scrolling up completely. Before, it was occasional tracking malfunctions that always seemed to fix themselves.

Well, before plopping down 50 bucks, I read several comments relating to actually cleaning the darn thing, and it worked! A little alcohol wipe, and less than two minutes later, my mouse is good as new.

    Great to start but......

    • Written by

I have found that this mouse stops scrolling up and down after it gets a little dirty. very frustrating for such an expensive mouse. I tried a little experiment with an alcohol wipe and cleaned the ball, rolled it in all directions until the wipe dried up and got all the gunk off. problem solved. we'll see what happens. so, looks like periodic cleaning is the way to keep it functioning. otherwise I really like this mouse, and the extra functions are really handy.

    Apple Mighty Mouse

    • Written by from Cliffside Park

The imac is wonderful but the mouse is weak. After 1 month it got stuck but I was able to clean it. What annoyed me the most is that the support pages only give solutions for the wireless mouse. But to be fair to the mouse, after a while my hands do get oily and sweaty so I expect the mouse to sense it and get stuck itself. No big deal, just dry your hands or put a bit of alcohol on the mouse and ready to go!

There is something weird about it though. Sometimes the pointer will shoot right off the page so my stuff gets messed up. Have to figure out how to control that.

    Not terrible

    • Written by from Medford

I like the function of this mouse and it seems to work for me but the real problem is the scroll ball. It gets gunked up and quits working. It is a hassle when it does not work so i disassembled the mouse and cleaned the sensors and now it works great! Just like new! All that you must do is pop off the white piece of plastic around the bottom of the mouse and then pop out the guts. It took like 15 minutes. The only problem is that when you pop off the bottom, it breaks the glue seal so you have to reglue the bottom back on. I also assume that this type of activity probably voids the warranty but it is worth it because it works great afterwards!
