    Failure. Total failure

First feel of this mouse is extremely sluggish. Second the scroll ball is not reliable at all. U can never expect how far it's gonna go.

    Apple Mouse

    • Written by from Hummelstown

This is a great mouse for the first month or so - then the best part of the ball stops working. I've done everything to clean it, but it's not working. This is the replacement for the first one which had the same issue. Apple needs to fix this problem!!!

    Unreliable scroll ball

    • Written by from Port Moody

I bought this because I hate the thought of tossing away all those used batteries. When it works, it works well. But after a few months the scroll ball started slipping. It would scroll up, but not down; or down, but not up. I'm sure the culprit is dust inside the housing for the rubber ball. It was really stupid of Apple not to give you a way to remove the top and clean the gunk out — PC mice have had this feature for a couple of decades.

Nice Product But last's Only So Long

    • Written by from ACWORTH

For 20 dollars I would go again with this product. Fifty, not ever again at this cost. As others have said, it is of a truth that when dirt gets into this baby & it does no matter what over time, she just shuts down. I've taken mine apart many times and cleaned it, and this is not an easy task. It would then work again for a while until dirty again. Fixed it so much that now it's unfixable. Looking for a more economical mouse now,,,,,,,Apple, lower the cost to 20 dollars & I would buy it again.......

    Worst product

    • Written by from Frederick

I wish I could rate this product with negative stars. First of all, It's a wired mouse so there are no complications like wireless mouse etc...in other words when plugged in it is always on. Scroll ball on this sucker just stopped working for no reason. Yes it is clean. Yes used rubbing alcohol.... rolled it around in every possible way...still no luck. For a wired mouse this thing is very much overpriced, which is ok if it works like it's supposed to. Is anyone at apple even looking at these complaints? Either take this junk off the market or fix it.

    My favorite mouse

    • Written by from Rowlett

This is the best mouse I have ever used. Sure it can get a little gummed up, but a once-a-year cleaning is not too bad of a price to pay. If you need to clean the ball, take a paper towel or lint free cloth, add a bit of naphtha, lighter fluid, or rubbing alcohol, flip the mouse over and roll the wheel around on the moist area. I am still using the same mouse that I got with my 2009 mac pro... I did buy a back up in case they stop making these, but it's still in the box... The ergonomics just work well for me. Every mouse I have used have me cramps after a while.. This one does not do that. I have a magic mouse that I use with my MBP, but it's not fun to use with SketchUp... We all have different needs and requirements, and this one works best for my style of computer use...

The name mighty is misleading. Be prepared for the 360 scroll to not last as long as the rest of the mouse.

    This thing works fine

    • Written by from Fairview

I've had one of these since it was released. It's been in serious use on a pro audio rig in a full-time professional audio studio since day one and is still working fine — so i don't get what the complaints are about regarding the ball. I'm buying more for my other rigs.

    Don't waste your money

    • Written by from Notre-Dame-de-l'Ile-Perrot

This has got to be the worse mouse on the market. EVER. It's expensive but unreliable. I bought it because the magic mouse does not track well on the Thunderbolt display. If you run a Mac laptop with a thunderbolt display, the magic mouse is so sluggish on screen that I ended up throwing it out of the windows (best $80 fit I ever threw). Bought this ugly expensive formless piece of plastic instead and regretted it ever since. Unresponsive, likely to stop working properly at any time (especially the scroll button AND even the one-click button). I just spent an hour writing a text in Word and the mouse won't let me drop the cursor anywere. The window is open and I'm about to chuck it out so that it can go keep company to its magic mouse brother in the ditch in front of my house. Getting mighty tired of the ccrap Apple is putting out there. Are we paying more just for what the stuff looks like? Because there's Windows hardware out there that looks good too, is less expensive and lasts longer and is more reliable.

Wish I could give 0 star, but the minimum is 1.

This is a terrible product and Apple should withdraw it.

    • Written by from Brooklyn

Today I'll be visiting my local E-Waste recycling center, and amongst the obsolete power supplies, spare cables and other oddities, there are two broken Apple Mice. A hundred bucks'-worth of mice. Both have the same problem that EVERY SINGLE USER eventually experiences, which is the Stupid Scroll Ball Thing doesn't work any more.
I replaced my last Apple Mouse with the Wireless, Stupid-Scroll-Ball-Thing-less Apple Magic Mouse. The Magic Mouse is, unequivocally, the single best electronic item I've ever bought. It's beyond brilliant. It should be the ONLY Mouse that Apple sells.

Scroll ball and the click buttons - pathetic

    • Written by

Right click never works on a single click. The buttons are placed at the bottom of the mouse which could be the reason for the pathetic performance of the mouse. Scroll ball stopped working after 5 months.
    So waste of money; $50??

    The jury is still out

    • Written by from Houston

I'm still not sure whether this mouse is going to work out for me. The layout feels a little odd - with the side buttons directly opposite one another, I feel like I'm holding the mouse at an odd angle to keep my thumb and ring finger on the side buttons. I'm beginning to get used to the right click, but I've had trouble with it sometimes - if I don't click with my middle finger far enough to the right, it's seen as a left click. The side buttons work but they take a pretty hard squeeze and offer no tactile feedback at all.

I may get used to it and I may not - only time will tell. I'll have to revise this review after a month or two.

    Destroying Misconceptions

    • Written by from El Monte

I'm hearing about a lot of scrolling problems with all of your mice. Maybe you've been treating it a little too roughly– admit it, for those who've harshly pressed the buttons and scroll to get them to work, or accidentally dropped your mouse off the desk. I've done those things, and my mouse is still working fine. Yes, I've had scrolling problems like many people here are describing, but after days of frustration, I did this: according to a WikiHow article, I turned the mouse upside down and gently rubbed it all over a handkerchief, the delicate kind used for glasses. Literally right there, I scrolled it and it absolutely worked. Possibly you've tried all of these things without success, and maybe your mouse is truly faulty. After buying my mouse from the thrift store (wonder why someone donated a 50 dollar mouse- it didn't look brand new either), I've had it for more than 4-6 months and it works fantastic. I especially love how the scroll allows you to go sideways, since I've always grudgingly scrolled my mouse to the bottom scroll bar of a window while using a normal mouse. The side buttons work fine, too.

P.S. For those you get dead skin cells and all of the gross dust in the side buttons, simply get in there with one of those sample mascara testers you get at Sephora, and all of it goes bye-bye.

    Apple Mouse $49 USB Secret

    • Written by from Castroville

The scroll ball eventually gets dirty. I have had several and they are expensive for a mouse that only lasts for an extended time before the scroll ball starts to fail. However I like the feel and performance of the mouse, and it doesn't use up batteries like some others. The secret to extending the mouse performance is to use a zero residue contact cleaner and spray the scroll ball and work it while the mouse is upside down. This will give you back your mouse performance for an extended time before you have to do it again.

    Not worth it

    • Written by from Lilburn

Good grief, this design is still around?

I've had to crack one of these apart to clean the trackball and had to use superglue to put it back together. Two years later I'm going to need to crack it apart again. It's a cool idea and feels good to use. It a nice looking mouse, but it can't be cleaned!

I can't recommend this product. The fact it cannot be cleaned really is a fatal flaw.

    scroll wheel fix

    • Written by from Indianapolis

If the scroll wheel malfunctions, just rub some alcohol over it with a cloth back and forth and it will work again because the oil that got on it from your finger will be removed. A great product except when it malfunctions, but it's easy to fix.
