There are a number of problems I have with this mouse.

1. Keeping it clean - I feel that I have to clean this every other day to keep the scroll wheel to work.

2. I had to disable the side buttons and the middle button because no matter how much I tried, they were just so much more sensitive than buttons on other mice and I was always accidentally pressing one.

3. Like the cords on some other Apple products, my mouse cord began to fray right by the USB connector. The wires are coming out and though I'm trying to keep it together for the time being, it's not going to last long.

I love the mouse and especially the scroll wheel, but it gets dirty and gunky, even if you are like Monk (like me) but that's just the nature of things...

Now that would be OK as I love opening things up and cleaning them, (like the old roller style mouses, you'd have to take the ball out and clean the little rollers, this is the same, but the rollers are much tinier and you have to remove the box and ball and the 4 rollers are not mounted, but just "there" )

but no reliable way to open this and clean it without breaking open the ring, unplugging both ribbon cables, and cleaning the little bitty rollers, doesn't always go back together so nicely and you have to redo it, because one little roller is slightly off. And then you have to glue the outer ring back on. And its not always dirt, either, as sometimes these little rollers get pushed back and

I've seen all the posts about how to clean it without opening it up, but after seeing what it looks like opened up, no way any of those other methods are really truly gonna clean the rollers, a stop-gap measure at best, and with opening this thing so tedious and fragile, looks like the only way after a while is to buy a new one...

But that would be okay, if Apple didn't charge 2-3x what other folks charge for a device that didn't last nearly as long....

A big gimmick. Lousy control, won't work on desk or mouse mat as sometimes the pointer just flies across the screen for no reason and goes where it likes. Reasonable response only achieved by using a paper notepad to scroll over. It came with the iMac I just bought, and is the weakest part of the system. really annoying to use. Will be replacing it.

On the surface, Apple's mouse looks great. It adheres to the old one-button look, with having two click functionality. It introduces new functions with the scroll ball, which is fantastic.

But in these items lie its problems. The solid shell prevents a user from being able to click right and click left simultaneously, which is useful in some circumstances. The scroll ball gets dirty, and is not easily cleaned, causing it to jam and prevent you from scrolling in certain directions, or at all.

The pressure sensitive buttons on the sides, while fitting within the design asthetic, sometimes get triggered accidentally, and for some folks just get turned off altogether.

It's a step in the right direction, but ultimately it needs more time on the drawing board before it can ever be called a winner.

Like many others have said, the mouse is extremely cool the first time you pick it up and use it but a few weeks later, say good bye to being able to scroll. It get dirty so fast, it's ridiculous that Apple wants $50 for a new one. I can do everything put scroll down with this mouse. Very disappointing Apple.

Mac users are often a pragmatic, impatient breed. This latest mouse came with my 7th or 8th Mac, and insisted on making its presence felt when time was of the essence and I was bearing down hard to meet a manuscript deadline. Suddenly, the screen would light up, darken, take on its own perverse life at cross-purposes with my tasks (and sanity). Of course, the problems were due to my tightening grip, which pushed the extra buttons and nearly sabotaged my projects. I'm sure the thing does all sorts of clever things like summoning up widgets or various screen colors or favorite iTunes, but who needs the hassle. Mine sits in the drawer. Thank goodness I have a couple of fairly functional, single-shot, mono-purpose, rudimentary mice left over from jettisoned iMacs.

I have both the wireless and the wired. The problem with the wired is that on OS X 10.5.1 the cursor randomly jumps to a corner or some other mysterious place and moving the mouse doesn't make it appear right away so you have to keep moving the mouse around until you can find the cursor. On the wired mouse and the wireless mouse the scroll ball will quit working in one direction or the other or both and on the wireless mouse the right button will mysteriously stop working.

I think I have found a fix for the scroll ball and that is to spray Isopropyl alcohol on the ball and take a paper towel and work it until it is clean of oils and dirt that must get in it. Mine started working after that. I would give these units a 5 star rating if Apple would address these issues and create a better mouse.

After only 8 months, the Mighty Mouse scroll ball is giving up. I can still scroll left and right, but now, the up and down scroll ball appears to be dirty ... it only works about half of the time.
The mouse also appears to be too sensitive at times ... it does some funny stuff, like magnify the screen contents (???) I have no idea which button I pushed to do that .. then of course, I couldn't get it to stop. Probably 'cockpit' trouble ... or maybe it just has TOO many features.

I'M GENERALLY DISAPPOINTED IN THE OPERATION OF THE APPLE MIGHTY MOUSE!

The Good:
-Simple and elegant
-Multi-directional scroll ball is very helpful and fast

The Bad:
-The short length of the cord requires that you attach the mouse to the USB on the side of the keyboard. When you do so, the mouse has limited area to move because the cord is in the way. When the cord is pressed against the front of the mouse, it becomes impossible to click (either right or left) as the top shell cannot collapse to complete the click.

I purposefully opted for the wired Apple Mouse. I didn't want to deal with batteries or the sort, and I don't have any fancy wireless requirements for my iMac. Unfortunately the scroll ball doesn't scroll up anymore. I read that a simple Q-tip and rubbing alcohol does the trick - but I don't want to do that every few weeks (or months). Looking back I would've opted for the wireless (not that I know if its scroll bar works well or not), but overall - just a regular mouse whose balls are messed up. Yeah I said it.
