Like most of the reviews I've read, I too have had trouble with the scroll ball on my second Mighty Mouse. The last one only lasted a few months before it quit working, and will be my last. You can't even take it apart to clean it without prying it open and taking a chance of tearing it up for good. It's a shame such a great computer comes with such a P.O.S mouse.

Just threw away my third mighty mouse with trackball. They only last about six months. Maybe I should use this as an excuse to my wife for a new computer with a new mouse? Haha.

Anyways, wouldn't recommend this mouse if you need to do a lot of scrolling.

I am a recent convert to Mac from a PC. I was extremely pleased with my Mac. I found it easy to use and the software is great. My system came with a wired mouse and it soon stopped working so I purchased a wireless mouse and again a few months in it stopped working. I did all the quick fixes they worked for a short time but the scroll wheel would stop working again. I turned to the internet and found that you had to take the mouse apart to fix it. The base is glued??? so you have to break that seal and after that the rest is easy and it worked. I had to use hot glue on the base ring so I could get into it again when needed. Come on now guys lets stop with the software advances and make a good mouse. Make a mouse with a removable track wheel so we can clean it when needed. Why would you glue the base ring on when you know it needs to come off to do a cleaning, do you think we are made of money and buying a new mouse every few months is your idea of a good product? I hope this is the only hardware issue I will have, time will tell. Software 5 out of 5 , Hardware 1 out of 5. Makes Mac look bad when you have something good going on. Lets not let this be your down fall.

I can't believe Apple designed this mouse.

Every Apple product I own is AMAZINGLY well designed - even down to the lowly Apple remote.

But, this mouse is TERRIBLE. The right click never works properly, and the scroll wheel... oh the scroll wheel... I have nightmares about it.

The reason we switched to laser mice is because wheel mice kept clogging up. So who in the F thought it would be a good idea to essentially use an upside-down wheel mouse instead of a scroll wheel?

After a couple of months and a few cleaning attempts I bought a white Microsoft Arc Mouse for $38 and it works beautifully with Snow Leopard. The only functionality that I lost was the (useless) horizontal scroll.

Please apple, redesign the mouse...

I love Apple hardware and Mac OSX. But I have to say the negative reviews on this particular mouse are true. In less than a year the mouse became a malfunctioning irritating annoyance. So bad, I went out to the back yard and threw the thing as far into the distance as I possibly could. One day it just went bonkers and out of control as far as point and click non-cooperation. Went to a Dell track ball mouse I had on the shelf. Will dig out my old imac mouse once I remember where I put it. I definately will not buy another one of these.

I am a major Mac fan - got it all: macbook, imac, iphone, ipod, you get the picture. The mouse that came with my imac started to booger up about 6 months after purchase: scroll ball becomes temperamental. Eventually stopped working all together. Got a second one ... now 8 months out, same thing. I'm done with this "Not-so-Mighty Mouse"! I'll be getting a different mouse. It's the only Apple product I've had problems with, but geez, after searching, this is a chronic issue with this product - FIX IT PEOPLE!! Why would you want us to have all these fabulous electronics and get a lame mouse to ruin the experience! Needs a redesign, that's for SURE!

I've owned my imac for 5 months... add me to the long list of defective scroll balls. My mighty mouse no longer scrolls up. It's a shame a company that puts such a high price on quality products has missed the mark with such a critical component.

I am on my third mouse and have given up replacing it. When I get a new one it will work fine for awhile but then it will only scroll in one direction. Shortly after that it will stop scrolling all together. They have all had the same problem.

This is by far the worst product in the Apple Line, and has been since the last generation of Apple products! First of all, unless your wear latex gloves whenever you use the mouse, your natural hand oils WILL (not might, will) clog the scroll ball within as little as four months. Second, and this makes me hate the mouse even more than the first reason, is that the contour of the mouse is totally not ergonomic, and honestly really uncomfortable. I don't know who's hand a mouse like this is supposed to fit, but it you do any design or precise computer work (hell, even if your browsing the internet), this mouse will make your hand uncomfortable. Also as a third point, has anyone else noticed that this mouse matches NOTHING in the current Apple product line?

I own two of these things, one at work and one at home. Both of have exactly the same problems.

First, reliability is bad. Wwithin a month they start loading up with dirt and you have to clean them regularly. By the year mark, both had lost one direction on the ball - one won't scroll left, the other won't scroll up.

Second, the error rate for right click vs left click is too high. If you don't have your fingers fairly precisely positioned, you'll get left when you want right or vice-versa. The design of the mouse does nothing to ameliorate this, as the front is a smooth fixed-radius curve.

Frankly, I'm giving up on these and going back to a real two-button mouse, with a real scroll wheel, with real ergonomics. Apple should be ashamed of making a poorly designed failure-prone product. That they charge a premium price for it is just adding injury to insult.
