    Not bad at all

    • Written by from ONTARIO

I really do like this keyboard, especially the tactile feedback and short throw of the keys. Well constructed and feels very solid.

I also like the small footprint.

But here's the only reason I didn't rate it at 5 stars: It is just a wee bit too thin. That disallows me from using my USB 2.0 thumb drive plugged into its USB port. Apple, in my opinion has carried this thinness a bit to far. However, I solved this by putting sticky bumper pads along the top top of the keyboard to raise it up a bit.

Overall though, I rate it as an excellent keyboard with a feel much like that of MacAlly's Ice Key boards, but without IceKey's ridiculously long connecting cable. As good as the IceKey is, and it's darn good, it still only has USB 1.0 ports.

Between these two fantastic keyboards, I'll stick with Apple's and keep my IceKey for backup if needed.

OK keyboard, volume keys could be better placed

    • Written by from Saline

My one problem with it is that I use expose and the volume keys frequently. Expose is f-9 thru f-12, and the volume keys are mapped to f-10 thru f-12, requiring a fn key press. The previous keyboard model was nicer in that it had separate volume keys that didn't require a modifier to use them.

    Beautiful, light, but poor ergonomics

    • Written by from Houston

There is no point to repeat what many have noted what a beautiful piece of work this is, and how light and small it is in foot print. However, in order to reduce its overall profile, the keyboard is nearly flat on the desk and this forces you to raise your wrist during typing. Thus it is more tiring to type on this than on the older design. I need to put a stack of cards under the keyboard to raise it. This is one good example of forms over-take functions in the design.

Love this keyboard, but I want another color...

    • Written by from Woodbridge

Yeah, this doesn't have all the bells and whistles like other keyboards, but this amazing piece of armor (as I call it) can take its share of abuse and keeps on ticking. I love its size, its simplicity, its two USB ports (this is the main reason why I love this keyboard) and the fact it doesn't take up space. Simple as that. And, this baby can take some abuse. I have pounded on it, accidently dropped it, spilled liquids on it and had my two nieces on it (6 year olds) and this baby is still rolling along. You want fancy? Go out and get one. You want reliable, durability, simplicity and rugged? This is for you.

GREAT! but I really want small usb version

    • Written by from Kihei

This is the best keyboard I've ever used over the last 25 years. It did require a little adjustment, but, once adjusted, I'm not going back to the old big key style. One thing Apple: please please please make a usb small version (like the bluetooth model). I use the bluetooth model at home ... and love the small form factor. But, bluetooth is not permitted at work, so i have to use the large one.

I'd give five stars for a small form factor usb model.

    Incompatible with IOGear GSC632U

    • Written by from Levittown

I liked this keyboard and believe it to be a likely long lasting one - a very solid feel. It's easy and very comfortable to use. However, the IOGear KVM switch I use does not recognize the keyboard at all. Therefore it is completely unusable to me.

Nice but will it break in <2 years like my other Apple Keyboard?

    • Written by from Clovis

I was forced to get a new one when my other Apple Keyboard (white iMac ca. 2006) unexpectedly stopped working. The buttons from the "tab" key straight down and to the space bar simply didn't work anymore.

I tried everything then made an appointment with a Mac Genius at the Apple Store. He tested it and said it was broken. Mind you, I'd never spilled anything on it, my cat didn't have an accident on it, it never slid off the desk onto a bed of nails. It was simply used for...keyboarding! Less than two years? I thought Apple was all about quality.

So I resigned myself to the fact that this one was kaput. Then, get this, the Mac Genius said I could get a replacement ordered for $69. Hold on there big fella, the redesigned newer one is $49. I informed/reminded him of this and he said, "Yeah."

Anyway, the new one is quiet, easier to push each key (more shallow), and sleek. Two issues: (1) the USB ports are on the side making it function wider than the physical width of the platform (the old one had the USB ports next to the front-center where the out-going cord is; makes sense that way) and making it a tighter squeeze on the sliding drawer that houses my keyboard and (2) will this one break in less than two years? Email me in December '09.

RE: I hate this keyboard. It is awkward and inconvenient. Here's why:

    • Written by from Shreveport

I didn't know how else to help BM who wrote the above mentioned review. Go to Sytem Preferences>Keyboard and Mouse on the Keyboard tab select the checkbox next to "Use F1, F2, etc. as standard function keys". Now your keyboard is as you want it. And the new functionality of the keyboard can be accessed by holding down the Fn key.

I love this keyboard but it took some time to get used to it. The keys are great, I find myself typing better, and I'm no longer pounding on keys because since they don't travel as far they invite a more gentle touch and I like that. I think I don't like how far the usb ports are recessed. Its nice that they hide the connector for the mouse, but I have a little fat usb drive that won't fit. Its not a huge complaint, but I thought it worth mentioning.

    Only One Complaint.

    • Written by from Lake Tapawingo

I couldn't be happier about the style and performance of my new Apple Keyboard. It is sleek, easy to use, has 19 function keys, everything that I want from my keyboard, with one exception. It comes equipped with 2 USB ports (adding one overall because it uses up one), but the USB ports don't have enough power to support an iPod or my iPhone. I suppose this is not a huge problem, just my one complaint. The keyboard is a great investment. I am extremely happy with my purchase.

    Real nice, but.....

    • Written by from Los Angeles

The KB takes time getting used to after you do your typing will speed up. I'm one of those that lives behind my keyboard. I mean live. work, play, eat, drink and sometime sleep at my desk. So a lot of stuff flying around and stuff gets into the KB. Most KB's it falls inside or I can use some canned air and blow it out. The keys are so close stuff gets stuck in-between key and the base and a royal pain to get out. So little concerned how KB will last over the long run.

    Love at First Type

    • Written by from Malverne

I love this keyboard! It makes typing so much easier than the original Apple keyboard that came with my iMac, which had such sticky keys that my hands ached after only a few minutes of having to pound on the keys.

This one is responsive to my light touch, but seems durable enough to stand up to a harder typist. I haven't had any problems with the flat keys, though I know my husband is still adapting to them on his new MacBook.

Lovely, easy, quiet. Finally, my fingers can keep up with my thoughts.

I am not a power user--I pretty much just type, and have never need the function keys or the capability to program. So I cannot comment on those higher-end features.

Its too "Ultra thin", and bounces around

    • Written by from Seal Beach

It would rate five stars, except that for some reason, this is the first keyboard that I've experienced that isn't level. I find it very awkward to type on because it keeps bouncing up and down - even on a level surface.

    Perhaps if it were heavier???

    Best Apple Keyboard Ever

    • Written by from Bangor

This is the best keyboard Apple has ever produced. The Pro keyboard from a few years ago was OK, and everything else has been incredibly difficult to type on. There is just one thing that annoys me - the USB power limit. I have a flash drive that gives me a low power notice when I plug it into one of the USB ports. However, I can use both the keyboard and the flash drive when I plug them both into an unpowered USB hub, and apparently this keyboard can deliver the power when connected to an aluminum iMac, so I don't understand where the disconnect is. Other than that, it's a superb keyboard.

Great keyboard but I still like the old one better.

    • Written by from Tiskilwa

I recently bought a new mac mini and used this keyboard at the store, but i liked the look and classic key feel of the previous model of the apple keyboard better. And for those who don't know about USB, you cannot plug an ipod into ANY USB hub device that doesn't have an external power source.
An ipod uses almost all of the power from a usb port, and if this power is split between a keyboard and two usb ports then the ipod won't get enough power to charge. Don't blame Apple, that's just how USB was designed.

    Easy to get dirty

    • Written by from Largo

The keyboard is nicely engineered slim and heavy weight sturdy.
The keys seem to get dirty easy on the left & is hard to clean if you would have put a finish on it, wouldn't get dirty so easy over all its been good over the few months, but I hear that the keys tend to break but that is if you mistreat it. SO overall I give it a 4/5.

The second coolest keyboard I've ever used

    • Written by from Tinton Falls

It's not perfect, but it comes very close. The thinness and responsiveness is incredible. I have the old white version and am thinking of getting this one even though my current still works. Great design, keys feel very nice to use. Only downside is the price.

    Perfect (Almost)

    • Written by from Papillion

This is, yet another, fantastic product from Apple. The wired keyboard is fast, silent, accurate, and a pleasure to use. While I was in Germany for five months I used, and got used to the keyboard from my MacBook, and when I returned home to my Windows based PC (Which I am very displeased now that I used the Mac OS for Five Moths) the Keyboard was just not doing the trick, so I took the next logical step and purchased this fine example of a Human Interface Device. My one complaint, and the reason the Keyboard only got four stars, It is not backlit. So in conclusion, if you are used to, or like the keyboards from your or other MacBooks, I highly recommend this keyboard, and if you are bugged by backlights, then this keyboard should be perfect for you.

USB cord too short for me

    • Written by from Cotati

I don't have any issues with the keyboard itself, it's great and I really like the way the keys feel. My only issue is that I have a keyboard tray that is just right for me, but the way my desk is in relation to the distance between monitor and keyboard, the USB cable is just too short. I thought about wireless, but I use the 10-key pad often, which the wireless doesn't have. I'm open to suggestion.

great keyboard, but boot shortcuts don't work.

    • Written by from Phoenix

I love the feel of this keyboard and don't regret buying it.

But... none of the boot shortcuts work, so I can't boot with the install DVD or in Firewire Target Disk mode.

I've done some reading on various forums and this seems to be a problem with many Macs that did not come with this keyboard as original equipment.

I'm using an Intel core duo iMac, the first model of Intel iMacs.

    Designed with quality

    • Written by from White Lake

I really do enjoy this keyboard. It's slick and visually appealing, but at the same time it gets the job done and works very well. The only issue I have is that I feel there was little false advertising at play, given that the "two USB 2.0 ports [that] provide high-speed connectivity for your iPod, Mighty Mouse, digital camera, and other USB-based electronic devices" don't actually work with your iPod, Mighty Mouse, and so forth. OSX claims that the devices don't have enough power to connect. You'd think that, with these USB ports being one of the major selling points of this keyboard, they would have tested to make sure that the keyboard offered enough power to at the very least make their own products be able to connect. However, the USB ports do work with one device I own, a Wacom tablet, so they're not completely useless.
