    Fragile little thing

I only bought this because it had the number pad and I could not type without that. I also use it if my mouse dies on me and I need to charge the batteries.

Overall, it's a decent product. It feels pretty good to type on in the fact that my wrists don't hurt afterward and the buttons are all of nice size. The function keys are very helpful to someone who likes listening to music while they work. The fact that they can be made into the regular F keys with the special functions accessed with the FN key is nice too. 19 function keys are great for the person who sets up a lot of shortcuts.

On the flip side, the buttons that feel so nice to type on don't feel good once they've broken off. My "B" key is missing (broken off) and so I have to hit the little plastic nub underneath. My left control key is also only held on by it's top half. The space bar doesn't always recognize a strike and the shift keys don't always work without a bit of force either. I bought this wired keyboard over another brand's Bluetooth model because it had the USB 2.0 ports on the side. At least, I thought they were until I found out that only works with the newest Aluminum iMacs. That means no syncing my iPod from my keyboard. Or using my flash drive on the ports either. In fact, my digital camera is all that I really have that can plug into the ports and be useful because the device needs to have it's own power supply (batteries in the case of the camera). Even a simple SD card reader won't work. My F5 key also cleanly broke and won't even register a strike and I have no idea as to why or how to fix it. It's easy to get confused as to what key to hit in a dark room and the buttons are too easy stroke.

Overall, it's a very fragile keyboard that didn't live up to the hype. I can't easily recommend this unless you absolutely have an Apple keyboard.

Whilst the new keyboard is great for typing, the Function keys have been reprogrammed. If you're like me and are working in InDesign or Quark and turn the guides on and off on your layouts a billion times a day, this shortcut is now a two button action (fn>f7 instead of just f7) slowing me down considerably...WHY does Apple have to go changing things for no good reason, there's now a bunch of f-keys sitting largely redundant (and Quark or InDesign won't accept reprogrammed f-keys) so f13 - f19 aren't being used....sigh!

    What the F -- keys??

I went back to using my original "white" keyboard based solely on the F key layout. exposé is, for me, a very handy feature for quickly switching between programs and documents. Now I find myself accidentally ADJUSTING THE VOLUME??? Bring back fully functional F9 thru F12 keys and we'll talk. Looks good though!

Really flimsy - the wireless keypad that is included with the imac is better. Numeric keypad is great for excel, but otherwise not such a good product.

    Great Keyboard, BUT...

Apple hardware is sexy. We're all aware. This keyboard is no different. Very thin, lightweight, in a shiny silver aluminum shell. The USB ports on both sides are a very nice touch, since Apple put form over function with my 24" iMac, putting the USB ports on the back where they are not easily accessible. The thin, modern key design is pleasant and a nice change from the standard chunky keys that have been around since before disco.

Enough flattery. When I purchased my iMac in 2008, I opted for the bluetooth wireless keyboard and mouse. Aside from the fact that the keyboard had no numerical pad and the mouse is a stupid one button design, I was very happy with their function and form. That was up until a few days ago. My wireless keyboard wasn't working. I assumed the batteries had died, so I charged them all day while I was at work. When I got home, I put in the fresh batteries. To my surprise, the keyboard still wasn't working. Apparently it was only good for 3 years worth of use. Very disappointing. It wouldn't hurt to mention that it was never dropped nor had any liquids spilled on it.

I made the logical decisions to save myself $20 and buy a new wired keyboard this time around. Paying less and getting the numeric pad made a lot more sense to me since I don't NEED wireless. I plugged in the new keyboard, updated the software, and and was faced with yet another keyboard related challenge. NONE OF THE FUNCTION KEYS WORK!!! I had no idea that I needed Mac OS X 10.7 or later, according to the owner's manual that came with the keyboard. So now I'm expected to spend another $30 to upgrade my operating system? What a friggin' rip off. This brings "built-in obsolescence" to a whole new maddening level. Now I have a prematurely dead wireless keyboard and a brand-new one that I can't use to adjust my screen brightness, volume, or use its audio/video player controls. Not a happy customer! It's not like I could buy an older model keyboard that would be compatible with my 10.5 OS. They don't sell them anymore.

It's lovely, as are all Apple products, but I'm constantly shocking myself with static electricity every time I come back to my desk after walking even a few steps. Also, because the keys are so flat, I can't locate my hands relative to the keyboard and regularly transpose one hand or both one key to the left or right. Overall, this keyboard is just terrifically annoying.

I like the bigger keys, but that's about it. The keys have no tactile response. Also the whole thing is too flush to the desk top. Really uncomfortable to type on.

Great design and feel, but spacebar and caps lock keys don't function well

    • Written by from Denver

The space key often does not insert a space despite being hit vigorously. This is particularly true if you are typing fast. A real slam is sometimes (but not always) required - much harder than other keys. When typing fast the sound demonstrates the problem --- click click click click SLAM click click click click click SLAM (you get the point). This takes a lot of getting used to. Same for the caps lock key - sometimes a hit activates it, sometimes not. Very annoying. The feedback and feel of the keyboard is however outstanding. Great design and feel with one serious flaw.

    Apple keyboard

This keyboard looks stylish and sleek to behold. The main problem arises once you start typing words. Many letters get skipped and some of the keys need some extra pressure to register while typing. This looks great but poor performance.

    Too small for me

I recently bought a new imac which I love, but the keyboard is so small that I am constantly hitting the wrong keys and having to go back and correct what I write. I don't know if I am going to try to get used to it or get a new, bigger keyboard. The features are very nice otherwise and for that reason hate to give it up. I've been looking at the Mcally full sized one on Amazon.

its hard to say bad things about a keyboard... it either works or doesnt. in this case the keyboard WORKS.
aside from the great looks; which is what attracted me to it in the first place (i am vain i guess) it really misses one of its biggest selling points. the USB ports.

it is great that it comes with two ports right there at your finger tips but the problem is that they do not provide enough power for use with a FLASH DRIVE. well... that is not totaly true. you can use a flash drive if it has external power or if you have an in expensive flash drive that uses a bit less power. i use a macbook and need a second USB slot. the Kingston Data Traveler II+ is just too much and will not work. Crucial Gizmo also will NOT work. both of these sticks are high end fast memory. a cheap sandisk will work, but i cant use it because it is just too slow for the applications i use.
if the keyboard provided more power it would be everything a keyboard of $50 should be. but not this time!

    Let down by caps keys

    • Written by from COWES

Both the Caps and Caps Lock keys are very slow to respond, you think you've depressed them but find out later that you haven't, resulting in a lot of wasted time going back and correcting caps that aren't as intended. OK otherwise, but I wouldn't buy one again, sadly let down by this basic flaw.

I've had it for ages but still haven't gotten used to it. Less accurate than iPhone touchpad. It regularly skips keystrokes making it necessary to go back and clean up everything I type. Good looks don't make up for poor functionality.

    Cool but bad USB

    • Written by

11 of 20 people found this useful

The keyboard is very good to use, even better than the one included in my MacBook. But the USB is bad... it will support an pendrive or an camera, but those USB powered HD will fail. And unfortunately, that's my case.

I have Mighty Mouse to save in order to one USB port. But this keyboard is wasting that port giving me two low power USB ports. Bad trade (in my opinion).

    Form over function?

This keyboard is beautiful, has a slick slow profile, and consistent feedback. That said, if you're a touch typist that has to switch back and forth from a more traditional keyboard, you're probably going to hate it. I suspect if I had the option to have one at work, I would learn to use it more effectively. But I don't and after months of use, my fingers still stumble over the keys and my error rate is unacceptable. Also, my wrists and hands tire under the strain of using such a low profile design.

If you're a "hunt and peck" typist or plan on using this as your primary keyboard where you rarely find yourself using another of a more traditional design, please disregard my feedback.

    Eject button placement...stupid

    • Written by from Calgary

I love the keyboard... except for the location of the EJECT button in the F keys??? I've hit Eject a couple of times now while burning when I only ment to hit the backspace button under it. Why didn't the freaken EJECT button go at the END of the F keys and not in the middle of them?? VERY frustrating if your in the middle of a burn. The other thing... you can't turn the monitor brightness buttons off on the keyboard!! Our 23" Apple monitors are calibrated with the brightness buttons on the monitor turned off! One mistake on the keybard and BAM... recalibration time.

    Nice, when it works.

    • Written by from Greenwood

The keyboard looks great, feels great, but doesn't work great. Occasionally the keyboard will stop responding, and will have to be unplugged and plugged back in, or will miss keystrokes, or will start sending the same keystroke over and over. For a programmer, this is enough to make you want to throw the device full force into a concrete floor.

Perhaps I just got a bad one, but I can't justify buying another one to find out, and I can't return this one now. Luck of the draw.

    So so

    • Written by from Albuquerque

13 of 24 people found this useful

While the keyboard is attractive, the key spacing is a bit odd, the extreme low-profile means that my wrist-rests don't work very well, and the general layout is only OK.

I had a more positive opinion of the keyboard until this morning when my "P" key came off the keyboard under normal use conditions. In my 20+ years of keyboard use I have only ever had one other key fall off a keyboard - my last Apple G4 Laptop. Luckily, unlike the G4, the key snapped back in after some jiggling.

This keyboard is better than the last design, but an after market solution might suit you better.

    USB 2.0 Disappointment

    • Written by from Springfield

5 of 8 people found this useful

Apple should correct their marketing. The USB 2.0 ONLY works with the new iMac, occasionally with other computers, but not as reliably as we're led to believe. On my second one due to the space bar not working properly.

Otherwise it feels and looks great. I do miss the eject and volume keys being off to the right not in the middle of it all, easier to access quickly over there. And I use my function keys for editing with Final Cut Studio so I had to remap the keys anyway. Disappointed but still using it.
