    Cheap, never worked

    • Written by from Newark

I am extremely disappointed. This is the second keyboard I've purchased in one year. The second one never worked unless I wiggled the USB port. Quality does not seem to be synonymous with Apple any longer.

Excellent keyboard - but I wish the keys were black.

    • Written by from Montreal

This is a preliminary review because I've only had the keyboard for a few days, but in that time i've typed - i'm guessing - about 5000 words, so I've had enough time with it to at least offer my first impressions.

Being a professional writer, I think this is what a keyboard should feel like. The solid construction, positive key action, and near flat/horizontal positioning of the keyboard make it an ergonomic dream, and the aluminum construction really makes it feel like a worthy extension of my 2010 MBP, to which the keyboard is attached. I also love that it comes with two USB ports - very useful.

Now for the niggles and complaints: 1) I wish the keys were black instead of white, as they are on my Macbook, primarily because black would hide the inevitable grime that will be collecting on the white keys. (but yeah, i realize i can just wipe the keys down once in a while.) 2) I'll echo what's been mentioned ad nauseum, here and elsewhere: why on Earth has Apple not made a wireless Bluetooth version of this full-size keyboard? It's truly bizarre. I know Logitech makes a WiFi wireless keyboard, but after trying it in the store, I found the key action and overall feel of that unit to be not as sturdy. Moreover, the fact that it isn't bluetooth but WiFi-based means the Logitech requires a WiFi receiver, which would take up a computer's USB port, which I did not want.

But that's really it for gripes/complaints. This really is the best chiclet-style keyboard I've ever used, and overall just a fantastic piece. It may be comparatively low-tech compared to other Apple products, but the price is right, and it's my new favourite. I'm glad apple still knows how - and cares - to nail the simple things, like this keyboard, alongside iPhones and new Mac Pro's.

nice keyboard but keys break off

    • Written by from Dublin

I have had two of these and like them. HOWEVER, not all of the keys stay attached, conveniently just out of warranty. I have had a caps lock and up arrow key both pop off and they cannot be re-attached (at at least I could not figure out how). A better build would be in order it seems to me, or a longer warranty. Can't decide whether to buy another one...

    Excellent Product

    • Written by from Boston

I use Bootcamp, and need my machine to operate as windows like as possible, and the addition of this keyboard makes it complete.

The function keys initially operate within Windows exactly like they do in OS (volume controls, screen brightness, etc.). To modify, you need to change the settings within bootcamp to remove the OS style functionality and instead make a windows keyboard...

Seriously, why would anyone buy a PC? I love Windows (cringe), yet abhor the instability most hardware provides...This macbook is the most reliable PC I've ever owned.

    Nice design but not recognized

    • Written by from Durham

I really like this keyboard a lot. It is quiet, the keys feel very nice, etc.
I use this as an external keyboard for my MacBook Air, running through the USB port on my Thunderbolt Display. Unfortunately, every time I put the MBA to sleep, when it wakes it does not recognize the keyboard. So I need to unplug everything and reboot from scratch (sort of ruins the best part of sleep mode).
I can't say if this is a problem with the keyboard, the MBA software/OS, a driver in the Thunderbolt, or what. But I do know that I wasn't having this problem when I was using my old Logitech keyboard the same way.

    Great but not Wireless

    • Written by from Zwaag

I have got the new 27" imac everything expect the power is wireless, trakpad, mouse keyboard: Great! Only I'm missing the numeric part of the keyboard, I'm ready to order but wait this is wired. Why, prop[ably because of the USB hub but I would like to trade that for wireless any day. Only alternative that I have found until now is the logitech wireless k750 solar powered, but it is just not the real thing. I hope that a new keyboard will be announced soon otherwise it will need to be the alternative version.

Nice but wish it was backlit like my MBP

    • Written by from Victorville

I like it, and works great, but it's a bit dated. I want an update with black chiclet backlit keys like my MacBook Pro. Would love another USB port or two and maybe an SD card reader, as well.

Good with MAc OS but not Win 7 in VMWare

    • Written by from Carrum Downs

I bought this keyboard as I do a lot of data entry for accounting work.
Unfortunately, I cannot seem to use the numeric keypad while in a Windows based accounting program used in the Win7 VM using VMWare. The number keyboard seems to only accept up/down/left/right commands and does not want to recognise the number keys. I cannot find a Num Lock key anywhere to change this.
I would be happy to rewrite this review and change the rating if it can be shown I am wrong.

I would give this keyboard a 1/2 star but that is not one of the options

    • Written by from Augusta

My keyboard stopped working and I wondered if it was me or a software patch. I came online to troubleshoot (on my Dell Laptop) and saw how many people had similar problems. Quite honestly, I had no idea this keyboard had so many problems when I got my fully loaded desktop Mac-Pro. It now died with no apparent reason. It started with the delete key, then the M and now nothing. I rebooted but I can't log in because none of the keys work to log in. I can't use a Bluetooth keyboard because it can't pair. I will have to get at least a used one just to reboot. The keyboard has not been damaged in any way. Hmm. Maybe my keyboard from my Radio Shack Model I, TRS-80 will work?

    Great Keyboard

    • Written by from Priddis

This keyboard is great. It is a great enhancement to my iMac. It really increased my productivity especially since the layout is allot like a windows keyboard and is great when you switch from a windows but it is still designed for mac. The usb ports are very convenient. Good job apple.

    Just buy it :)

    • Written by from Danbury

I like that it is almost silent and not bulky at all. The spacing of the keys are perfect for me. It works with linux as well. I work in front of a computer all day and this nonbulky, silent and easy to type keyboard definitely improved my effciency. It also looks very elegant...

Solid keyboard that meets all of my needs

    • Written by from San Francisco

I've used a lot of keyboards, and this is the one that works for me. I wish it was offered as wireless, but it's not a deal-breaker. In fact, I much prefer this to the newer, smaller standard-issue wireless iMac keyboard. It's too small. This one also has convenient page up and down keys which I use constantly while browsing the web. IMHO, this is the best keyboard Apple has ever made.

    Love it

I replaced our wireless keyboard with this one and have had no issues. I love that it has the 10 key set up on the side unlike the wireless one. I love that it does not use batteries and I love the feel and the ease of use and set up. I was also really impressed to see that it came with a extra piece to make the cord longer if need be. Will be ordering with my next Mac

    Horrible DO NOT PURCHASE

    • Written by from fall river

I have purchased hundreds of apple products for my home and my office, and I have over a dozen current apple products in my home currently. It pains me to say that this particular keyboard is deeply flawed. I have purchased two of them in as many years, and both have crapped out. The more unsettling thing is that apple in both cases refused to honor their customary 1 year warranty. I will continue to buy apple products, but my keyboards will be third party until apple pulls their head out on this front.

    Works great

    • Written by from Macungie

I was having problems with the bluetooth keyboard and mouse, so I bought the usb keyboard. It turned out to be the best thing I could have done. I like having the numeric keypad and the feel of the keyboard is just great. I would recommend getting one of these if you aren't a fan of wireless input devices. The two usb ports come in handy since I no longer have to get behing the IMac to plug a device in.

    Great but expensive

    • Written by from Cambridge

The keys feel really nice on your fingers, and I find I can type so much faster on it! It also makes my old BENQ monitor (I have a MacMini) look a lot nicer, as it is the same shade of aluminium. It looks really smart and professional! The function keys are really useful, as are the USB ports, which I use for my portable DVD player, purely out of convenience.

The one thing I can't commend Apple on for this is the pricing. Granted, it is a very good quality keyboard, and you pay a premium for Apple's designs. However £40 for a keyboard is a bit steep. Next time, make it cheaper, like £30 max. This way families can buy an official Apple keyboard cheaply, while professionals can opt for the expensive, good quality wireless one.
