    Great Quality, Work with PCs!

    • Written by from Limestone

I bought this to match my Dell 1501 laptop (silver and white). I've always liked Apple keyboards for years. On a whim, I thought I would try it with my PC. Works find, but no "print screen" function. There are programs out there that will allow mapping of the keys, etc.

Quality is excellent--keyboard is hefty and sits still on the table. The USB ports will not support a jump drive as everyone ha smentioned. The keys are huge and easy to type on--with positive feedback. It does feel like a notebook keyboard, but with better tactile feel. My only reason for the 4 stars is that there is no vertical adjustment on the keyboard. I may add some rubber bumpers under the back to lift the back a bit.

I suppose you can use a mouse with the keyboard USB, but who would want to? Afterall, the cord will ball up and get in the way.

I was suprised to see a USB extention cable came with the keyboard--a $20 accessory. The attached cord is limited to like 3 feet - perfect for use with a laptop (in my case. I was also suprised that the control key works with Win XP...and the fn key works as the INS key for PCs.

Overall, very pleased--looking to take one to work and cause a stir with the sleek look. :) Way to go Apple...nice product!

    Awesome

    • Written by from Brooklyn

The keyboard has an awesome feel and is so thin and light that its perfect. the only problem that I do have with the keyboard is that Apple says we can plug in ipods and cameras to the keyboard's usb port but when you do a warning message pops up that says not enough power. which means we can only plug in things that are externally powered. that's my only complaint. all of the function keys work really well for me and the siz and weight of the keyboard is perfect for use. great product!

    Good Keyboard

    • Written by from Davison

The keyboard itself is a great piece of work. I bought it to get more accurate typing than I did on my MBP, and that's what I got. However, the complaints about the low-powered USB ports are sad, but true. They should be fully functional for what you pay.

I'm glad I got it... but...

    • Written by from Los Angeles

First, it lays almost flat on my desk... the picture gives the impression that it is fairly elevated in the back, giving a fairly steep angle between the top and the bottom of the keyboard - which would have been great. I don't type "flat", so I had to find a rig a small box to prop up the back, to give me a greater angle.

Second - the shipping department needs to be fired and/or educated about "shipping". My one-inch thick keyboard came in a 12-inch high box! My precious keyboard was placed on the bottom of the box, and 11 inches of packaging material was placed on top of it!

How stupid and careless! Put 5 inches of packing on the bottom of the box, then the keyboard, then 5 more inches of packing...

Show the guys in shipping how to treat packing a box like they used to make Big Macs... bun, meat, bun!

This makes Bill Gates look smart!

Nice, could be improved, but nice.

When I ordered my imac back in March, it came with the clunky old keyboard we all know and hate (atleast I did). As soon as I saw those leaked pictures on the web of this keyboard, I had been obsessing over getting it. I saved up my 50 bucks and went to the apple store on august 8th to pick it up. They hadn't received any yet at the one near me, so they had me order one. Two weeks later, here I am typing on it.

My first observations were everyone's, thin. I took comparative photos of my old and new keyboard, and everyone I showed it to dropped their jaws. I've also had much fewer typos or missed keys, and one of my most favorite parts, to clean it, just wipe a damp cloth across it. No more popping off keys, trying to get between the keystands with a disinfecting wipe, its overall amazing. The dedicated keys work well for me, and I can now type faster with fewer errors for longer.

My gripes for this product are few. As other's have said, The USB 2.0 ports are grossly mislabeled. One of the few reasons I decided to go for a wired version, which is a downgrade of my old wireless apple keyboard, was that I was running out of USB 2.0 ports. The only usb cable that seemed needed to be moved was my iPhone's sync/charge cable. I plugged this baby in and connected the iPhoen and powered up. I am met by a pop up with a bright red stop sign telling me I need to switch ports. In fact, none of my USb items worked, and all of them require USB 2.0. I'm hoping Apple either upgrades the keyboard ports or downgrades the advertisement.

Overall this is an amazing improvement over the old one. Good job Apple, you've done it again.

    It's actually great, buy it.

    • Written by from Saint Louis

The old clear keyboard I bought a year ago was a constant frustration and I sincerely hated to type on my Mac ever since I bought it despite how cool it looked. The new keyboard is a complete success. Even the mounting layout of the USB ports to the side makes everthing easier. It's super quiet and easy to type on. The keys are very thin and low-profile, but that's fine. I've had no trouble adjusting and am typing faster because they're so flat. It could stand to be adjustable for tilt, but I'll get by . Now why they can't sell it for $25 I don't know.... Anyway, you need one over that old disaster of a keyboard.

    Very Nice

    • Written by from Hampstead

I really wish i could give this keyboard five stars. The key strokes are quiet and responsive, the keys are easy to find, and the overall keyboard is gorgeous. The F3 and F4 keys work fine for me, the only reason the board doesn't get five stars is because of the iPod low power warning. I tried everything, plugging it into both sides, having it alone, with a mouse, having my MacBook Pro plugged in and not. Nothing worked. It's not a big deal because i have a monitor with an integrated USB hub, but based on the advertisement for the product, the iPod should work on the keyboard. Hopefully the issue will be resolved with a software update. If the iPod is not an issue for you, definitely buy this keyboard. It makes the transition between a notebook keyboard and an external keyboard very easy.

Great.. Watch out for Cord Length

    • Written by from Conesus

I love the keyboard.. although I still find it difficult to type on it after using a powerbook for 3 years. I like the functions keys and the sleek design with the hidden USB ports. But the USB Cord it TOO SHORT! I can't reach my keyboard tray from the back of the iMac.. I got cords all over! I can't run it under my desk to my pull out tray (which isn't very far). Maybe a 2 foot cord. If you need any distance, go wireless.

    excellent feel – F3 and F4 don't fully work

    • Written by

I'm extremely picky about keyboards; I disliked the previous Apple Keyboard because the keys tended to be "sticky" and resist keystrokes. I tried the Macally Icekey, but that one felt "hollow" and plastic – keystrokes would resonate through the body of the keyboard and gave a cheap feel. In addition, the keys were loud.

The new Apple Keyboard is just wonderful. The action is very solid; keystrokes resonate in the desk rather than the keyboard, making it feel reliable. The keys are about as quiet as they could be. You won't wake anyone up pounding away on this thing.

It doesn't get 5 stars because the F3 and F4 keys don't work for Expose and Dashboard. You can program different F keys for those functions or hold down the "fn" key while pressing F3 and F4 to use Expose and Dashboard. I hope this will be fixed in a software update soon.

    I'm impressed.

    Amazing

    • Written by from Washington

This keyboard goes far beyond my expectations. By far the most comfortable keyboard I've ever used. It actually makes typing faster and fun. Only drawback is the fn key to use some of the more elaborate F functions. For $49.00 I'll probably get another to keep at work. Good luck selling the wireless though, no numbers section. BIG mistake.

    Freak out.

    • Written by from Athens

Apple's new keyboard is, hands down, (heh) the best-feeling keyboard I've ever typed on, and I've typed on quite a few.

The separation between they keys improves my typing accuracy and the small travel distance means the time between initiating a keypress and the psychological registration of successfully doing so is shortened. The end result is a crispness to the typing experience which should have been there from the get go.

The keyboard that preceded this one is an atrocity which makes the beauty, functionality, and design of this keyboard stand out all the more starkly.

If you have been looking for a keyboard for just that perfect feel, this is the keyboard for you.

    Using with a MacBook

    • Written by from San Antonio

I have found that I used my MB more often as a desktop unit than a portable so this keyboard is great to use along with my iCurve. For those worried about keeping the wrist/palm area of their MB in pristine condition - this is the solution.

The keyboard is light, the typing experience is very comfortable and the design is simply elegant. I have yet to program this keyboard and whatever deficiencies I find, I'm confident Apple will issue an update.

This was a solid $49 purchase.

    Best Apple Keyboard Yet

    • Written by from Loveland

This keyboard is really a pleasure to type on. The keys have very short action, so that you don't depress them nearly as far as on other keyboards. The long action of the keys on other apple keyboards results in miss-keying and sticky keys that don't always depress fully if they are not attacked just right. These keys require light pressure and they are big enough and spaced nicely.

    Great but, one bug!

    • Written by from El Paso

I love this keyboard it is the perfect companion for my MacBook, even better since it sits lower and allows my wrists to rest.

One gripe though, even after installing the software update for the keyboard (from Apple) my Exposé and Widgets dedicated key DO NOT work. :-( All the other keys work, what gives!?

    Superb

    • Written by from Baden

This is a great new keyboard, it looks great and types wonderfully. The reviewer with gripe (one star) must have got a dud, mine has no clicky sounds and the keys have a high quality feel and finish.
My only complaint is the letters printed on the keys (ABCDEF...)are not centered or even equally off-centre, the one shown on the site is ok, so probably I was unlucky. This wont probably bother most of you but for me (graphic designer) it irritates & takes the shine off a little - for after all the design is its most striking feature and thats more or less why I bought it... so thats why I have given a four out of five..
I really wanted a wireless one but need the extra number keys. I think this is a bit of an oversight by Apple seeing laptops don't have this built in and its often the reason to buy a keyboard for your laptop (which already has bluetooth & wireless functionality built in).
The new function keys are bit annoying but work ok, I prefer the older setup...

great keyboard, but unsure of dedicated buttons work correctly

    • Written by from Laguna Niguel

i just bought this keyboard today, i was very excited to use it. i brought it home, plugged it in and downloaded the update. i then started to try out its new functions and found that the dashboard and expose buttons did not work. so i went into my preferences and had to make some tweaks. after making those tweaks the dedicated dashboard and expose buttons worked only if i used the fn button. i am still unsure if this is what i had to do to get those keys to work or do i have a faulty keyboard. i will call apple tomorrow and post a new update afterwards.
