    Great new keyboard

    Written by AR from Carlsbad

    Aug 7, 2007

Apple has another hit on their hands and is definitely on a roll. I replaced my original apple keyboard with the new one for my Mac Pro since the original did not have a crisp enough key stroke...it seemed "mushy" sometimes...but now....amazing!

Awesome keyboard for Mac or PC

    Written by PJ from Columbus

    Aug 30, 2007

I bought this keyboard for use with my main computer, which happens to be a PC and it is fantastic. I was using the $150 Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 7000 prior to this, and while the wireless was nice, this keyboard is better in every way. I really forgot how nice it is to have a number pad since I had only used wireless keyboards without one. The cord is also very short, which is nice for those of us with USB ports on our computer monitor so there isn't a long cable dangling around (Apple includes an extender cable if you need your cable to be longer). And keep in mind this is only a $49 keyboard, I had used $150-200 keyboards prior to it - this one is the best!

My one wish is that Apple takes a small amount of time to write a keyboard driver for XP/Vista so that the media controls would work on PCs also - I can't imagine this would be too difficult or take much time. Otherwise , a perfect and affordable keyboard whether you use a Mac or PC.

    Great Keyboard

When I took this keyboard out of the box I was not so sure about it, but after using it for about 15 to 20 minutes, I found that this was a fantastic device. I would highly recommend you to get this if you are shopping for a new keyboard.

Somone at Apple must be a darn good typist.

    Written by JE from Rialto

    Jan 16, 2008

And that person must have had a lot to say about the design of the latest Apple keyboard.

At first glance, it looks like a touch typist's nightmare. It's too flat! The keys barely move! Where's the tactile feedback I need to get up to speed?

I scoffed when I first laid eyes upon it, but after a few minutes with one at an Apple retail store, I was hooked. While the profile of the keyboard is low and lean, the keys and their spacing are generous enough for big shovel hands like mine. The touch is reminiscent of a good electric typewriter, not mushy and uncertain like so many "quiet" keyboards. The keys can't bind against each other and the space between them prevents cruddy build-up.

Since it's also the stock keyboard for the new aluminum iMac, the keyboard provides USB 2.0 support for low power and externally powered devices when connected to other computers, including the white plastic iMac, any MacBook, the Mac mini and the Mac Pro. That won't be a big issue for most users who plug a mouse or trackball into the keyboard. You'll still need to plug your iPod diretly into a USB port on the computer.

    One more thing. . .

Apple has finally labeled the Command key with its name in addition to that mysterious cloverleaf symbol. For Boot Camp users, the Option key is also labeled "Alt".

Well, OK, that was TWO more things.

The best keyboard I've ever owned

    Written by CM from Draper

    Dec 21, 2007

I have to admit, when Apple first introduced this keyboard I thought it would be terrible. However, after using it for about 30 minutes I didn't want to use a regular keyboard ever again. I'm a software engineer so I'm typing all day long and I love this keyboard. The keys are very responsive and require much less pressure than traditional keyboards. The low profile keys make it much easier to type really fast, nothing is getting in your way. I bought one a couple of weeks ago and now I need to replace the keyboard on all of my computers with one of these. One you use this you'll not want to use anything else.

    I can't believe I'm buying another keyboard!

Written by CC from Port Angeles

    Jun 11, 2008

After being disappointed by my wireless replacement, (it *ate* batteries like the Cookie Monster eats cookies -- even the rechargeable ones), I thought I'd just live with the old, dirty, wired keyboard with the sticking key. But then I began working with a company that had the new Apple keyboards and I can't go back. I'm having to buy one of these keyboards for home -- and possibly another to use when I travel!

I'm a heavy typist, pounding my keys, especially the space bar, but this keyboard takes it. I also have smaller hands and hated those "ergonomic" ones that made me stretch to reach the sides. The low, light profile of the keys and more subtle click seem to make the typing easier and less of a strain for long shifts.

I honestly can't think of how they can improve on this keyboard.

Bought this keyboard the other day when I couldn't find any Logitech/other keyboards that met my fancy. I wasn't sure if it worked with windows but it certainly does! For you Closet Mac lovers who still need to use Windows OS, you can have can still have a little part of mac! Amazing keyboard. Feels like each of my fingers is sitting on little clouds.

Made my PC more MAC :-)

    Written by JR from Kelowna

I had to switch to PC at work to "conform" to the norm. My keyboard felt like I was working on a 1960's typewriter. I had all the wrist comforts and still wrists sore. So I grabbed one of these and it was like magic! No soreness - faster typing. Just plain better. Like typing on the desk and not a keyboard. Company might be getting these for everyone in the office now.

    Using it with my PC

Written by DC from San Francisco

    Oct 28, 2007

It's plug and play. XP recognised as a generic USB HID keyboard and installed the necessary drivers. I then installed the Apple keyboard driver from Leopard's Boot Camp, now all the keys have the correct mapping for Windows.

The notebook keys needs a little bit getting used to, but now I can type on it faster than my old MS keyboard. So it's well worth the learning curve.

And there is no where for the dust to get into, and it's ultra easy to clean.

    LOVE IT!

    Written by AD from Spencer

This is a great product. I've been wanting one of these for quite a while, and I finally had a good excuse to buy it. I love this keyboard. It feels so nice under your fingers, and I think its more comfortable than the older ones. I have always preferred laptop keys to desktop keyboards, and it is also very quiet. Another good thing about this that not many people mention is that, with the old keyboard, you would always get dust and stuff between and beneath the keys, and you could see it because of the clear edges. The keyboards could get very disgusting at times. I'm glad that I won't be needing to get the canned air out for this one.

    Learn to READ!!! ...then rate

    Written by AB from Sacramento

First of all this keyboard is awesome... especially for anyone that is used to using a notebook keyboard. Feels like a brand new macbook keyboard... but bigger.

Don't listen to anyone that is complaining about insufficient power on the USB ports for iPods and external HDs that draw power from only the USB port. This is the case with ANY keyboard with USB ports on it; there is even a disclaimer for this in the product description!!!

Bottom line: get this keyboard. If you need to plug in power-hungry devices; those belong on the back of the computer or on a powered USB hub anyways!!!

Awesome keyboard, and some responses to the criticisms.

Written by RB from Salt Lake City

    Feb 11, 2009

This is really a perfect keyboard for most people. The slim design is incredible, it looks beautiful and responds great. After using this keyboard for a while, when I go try to use a dell keyboard or most other keyboards that come with PC's the keys feel really fat and clunky and it's actually kind of hard to type on because I'm so used to the thin keys that you don't need to depress very much to register. It's much easier to type on, even though it takes a little bit to get used to at first for some people. Trust me, it's worth it.

The review that I read that stuck out the most to me is complaining about "significant design flaws" like the fact that the key's aren't curved so you can't feel where the center of the key is and also that the spacebar is slightly unresponsive. I don't know where he/she is getting that information. I literally have never had it not register the space bar, even if I just push it lightly or in one corner or the other. To be honest, it's the most sensitive keyboard I've ever had. Every key, including the spacebar is just as responsive as it can be. As for the curved keys, I can't think of any reason that those are necessary. First of all, I don't understand why the center of the key is so important... you can hit it anywhere on the key and it works, second of all, it's all the same spacing between keys as any other keyboard so anyone who types on a semi-regular or regular basis will be able to type no problem at all, it will just be second nature... you don't need curved keys.

The other complaint that doesn't make sense to me is people complaining about the fact that the 2 USB ports on the side aren't full function. First of all, it works for most things, I've had it work for my iPod no problem at all, and it works with flash drives and everything. That being said, I know there are certain times where iPods and stuff won't work, such as when you plug this keyboard into an apple monitor instead of directly into the computer. You have to realize when you plug it in to a monitor, that's already acting as a hub... so you're plugging this keyboard (another hub) into a hub, and it's basically splitting the signal multiple times, making the signal weaker every time. A lot of USB hubs won't work for things like that unless you plug them in to the wall as well as the computer, so I don't know why it's a surprise to have the keyboard be that way. The USB ports are nice to have for simple things, but if you buy this don't expect it just to be complete new USB ports.

    Apple Keyboard A Must Have

    Written by MH from Sammamish

    May 8, 2008

One of the most valuable "features" of this amazing new design is the quietness factor - these keys barely make a sound when you press them. This really pays off if you are in a work environment where several computers are near by. That doesn't mean Apple sacrificed responsiveness - they managed to improve on that as well. The key stroke distance traveled is much less than earlier designs, so you can really type fast with this thing. Another amazing piece of design work by Apple!

Indestructible, Superior Key Feel, Immune to Liquid Spills

    Written by JL from Hughesville

    Aug 29, 2009

The touch and feel of the keys and keyboard are the best of any keyboard that I've ever used. Everyone in the family remarks about how good the touch and feel of the keyboard are.

I spilled a full glass of orange juice directly on the keyboard, Held it under the kitchen sink faucet until the water ran clear. Set it on end on paper tiles for 30 minutes then propped each end with books over an air conditioning register, keyboard side down for an hour. Plugged it in and it worked great. No effect on the keys, no stickiness.

    Great for klutzes like me.

I know that it is just a keyboard, but I love it!

It makes typing very easy! It gives you an extra USB port, which is brilliant, and it looks so good.

I use it with my MB Pro, and it works very well on my Boot Camp Windows XP too! Way to go Apple!

    Help...I've fallen and I can't get up!

    Written by LD from Newcastle

I have fallen in love with this keyboard!
60 year old typist with arthritic fingers, finds spatial movement is lessened and accuracy is resplendently restored. Along with many other older, foolish folks out there, I spend many mealtimes sitting over the keyboard. My frustration level has also lessened as my tea and toast crumbs are no longer interacting with my keyboard. Bonus! This keyboard is a pleasure to drive. Now, if I can just find the brakes...maybe I can get up myself.

Perfect for injured Soldiers who type

    Written by AM from KANEOHE

Apple, keep on designing wonderful products!
I after injuring my wrist in Iraq, I had a real hard typing. I bought everything in the market to support or help me with typing on my PC. None worked. My brother, nowing my disability informed me that Apple had a new keyboard and mighty mouse. I didnt think much of it until i got both of them in the mail from him. I reluctanly tired both. After an hour of typing and clicking i felt no pain as i would normally had felt using Ergonomic keyboards and mouse. Now i own 3 with mighty mouse(1 for work,1 for my PC and 1 for my laptop). I also gave 3 away to other fellow Soldiers who have wrist-hand problems. People at work have also changed theirs. Thanks for the great design for us disabled folks.

This is the best keyboard I have used!

    Written by RO from Weston

I thought Apple had gone crazy when they introduced this keyboard. "A chiclet keyboard in this day and age!" I exclaimed. I fully expected to hate it.

However, I can type faster on this keyboard than on any other, and it has an excellent feel. It is also small and looks great. If only this one came in wireless...

I have been working with computers for over 27 years and this is, without a doubt, the best keyboard I've ever used.

    Much Better Than Previous One

    Written by JB from Barrington

    Feb 27, 2008

I had the old Apple wireless keyboard on my Mac Mini, but I just got an iMac. At first glance, it looked much too thin, but then once I started to use it, I loved it. Now whenever I use my other keyboard on the Mac Mini, it feels much too bulky and I remind myself I must buy myself another one of these. The keys are nice and thin, and I love how the function keys have the Mac functions (such as play, fast forward, rewind, ect.) on them. I also love the USB ports, which help greatly since the cord on the wired mighty mouse is lacking a little in length. Overall, fantastic keyboard.
