Great keyboard!

I'm a programmer and I've been searching for a while for a good and easy to use keyboard. At first the Apple keyboard seemed too flat and uncomfortable but when I tried it - it's nothing like it! The large crispy keys speed up typing, the distance between the keys prevents typos and the bigger and easily reachable modifier keys make using key shortcuts easier than ever! Except that the elegant grid-like rectangular design makes the keyboard intuitive and easy to use without even looking at it. Another great product by Apple! Thank you!

Best I've used
Written by SS from Sacramento

I bought the imac a while back with the keyboard and i have to say it is super thin and really really quiet unlike those fat keyboards that make those loud clicks when you type with them. Im really impressed. the only problem is that if you have really dirty fingers and then start typing on it the keys will get really dirty and its almost impossible to clean. other than that i love it!

Best keyboard Apple has ever made
Written by LW from Clearwater
Oct 4, 2009
I've been using Macs since 1989 and the aluminum keyboard with numeric keypad is simply the best I've ever used. The feel is fast and sure. Typing is nearly effortless and key travel is short making speed typing a breeze. I have aluminum keyboards on both my business and home Macs and anything else now feels very clunky--like going back to a horse and buggy after driving a Ferrari.
I seem to make far fewer mistakes on this keyboard, and there is no annoying key repeat problem like I saw frequently on the previous plastic keyboards. Some people pine for the good old days of "the barge", Apple's ultra-large keyboard common in the 90's before OS X came on the scene. It was a great keyboard, but the new aluminum blows it away, in my opinion. I also opt for the numeric keypad and frequently use it to enter numeric data while designing.
The F7, 8 and 9 function keys allow instant control of iTunes without any additional software. Other function keys exist for brightness, widgets and sound volume. I work on my Macs at least 6-8 hours a day, and the new aluminum keyboards with numeric keypad make it easier and more fun than any other keyboard I've ever used. Way to go Apple!1 of 1 people found this useful

Great. But USB lacks.
Written by MB from Gilbert
Oct 1, 2009
The overall product is nice. The keys are perfect and presentation matches the Mac lines nicely. My only two complaints are the little rubber feet on the bottom offer absolutely no traction. My comp is at an angle (its on an artists table) and in the morning I find my keyboard to have slid considerably. Lastly, if your looking to use the USB ports for flashdrives and such, you won't find a solution here. The only way you can connect something through the USB is if it has its own power source. Otherwise the keyboard doesn't power it. Even tiny flashdrives with light indicators won't work simply because of the light.

Great Design
Written by PD from Dahlonega

I bought this keyboard about three months ago at the Apple Store in Minnesota after much consideration. I'm pleased to say that I made a great decision buying this keyboard.
Not only does this keyboard look great with it's ingenious design, but also flows and works fantastic with the thin key design that go down and pop-up with. My one complaint - although the available USB ports do work with the Apple Wired Mighty Mouse and other third-party mice it does not connect others devices such as Printers, iPods, and Cellphones.
All in all, Great design and functional keyboard worth every penny. Apple, keep up the great work.5 of 6 people found this useful

Great!

hours and hours of school work gets to me, so i put my MBP on a stand and use this and the wired mighty mouse. i love this keyboard! i love the sensitivity of the keys (they're lighter than my MBP)and how easy it is to type fast and move around. the one bad thing is (as mentioned in other reviews) the caps lock seems to be harder to push than the rest of the keys, as well as the directional keys. but other than that i think it's great! i would definitely recommend it.

Full Keyboard should have just come with the iMac
Written by RL from Burnaby

I bought my iMac two weeks ago and really gave the mini keyboard a try but, as a PC convert, there are some things that I just need, like my home and end keys, a backspace and a full size keypad. It should have just come with the system I bought but there was no swaying the sales person to swap it out for me. Oh well I ended up having to spend another $60 to get the full keyboard. I also ended up using the KeyFixer utility to remap the Home and End keys so that they operated like I expected them to. Overall I am very happy with my system and full keyboard.

GREAT...but...
Written by BF from Kissimmee

Ok...Ok.. This is a truly beautiful thing, well done. I have used my MacBook Pro 17" as my main computer (95% of the time) for the past 3 years. Recently (last week) I updated my Pro to the new unibody 15" pro and added a 24" led screen (waw again)... So with the new 24" led well I needed a keyboard and hence this one. It works great with well placed keys and handy controls for a variety of functions. Full numeric keys and arrows. My only real surprise is that there is no backlight... hmmmm.... I just cannot understand why Apple did not put backlit keys... I use my system for a variety of things and often operate in a no light room.

Awesome Keyboard!!

I had to replace my old Apple Keyboard after some of the keys stopped working. I was reluctant to buying this keyboard because it is so thin, and thought that I would have trouble typing on it...I was wrong. This keyboard is awesome, it's very easy to type on and looks easier to maintain if it gets dirty. Nice job Apple!!!

The perfect typing tool!

If you don't own this keyboard, then you should. Its sleek contemporary design is very attractive, but I think it's the best feeling keyboard I've ever laid hands on. My finger tips seriously brush against the keys like a comb in angel's hair.
Go buy it.8 of 10 people found this useful

Inconsistent key sound
Written by MH from London
Sep 11, 2009
An interesting keyboard marred by the lack of tonal harmony across all the key sounds when typing - the space bar sets a new low in Apple engineering. It sounds clumsy and weak similar to an old Imperial or Olivetti typewriter. Put the sound of the space bar with the other keys and you have the end to your perfect day at 8am! It seems unbelievable that Apple of all people should let this through unchecked. Not good value at around $50 - how much more for a consistent space bar sound? $2? $5? $10?

Awesome keyboard with one minor problem
Written by FM from LONDON
Sep 7, 2009
As the other reviews state, and I endorse, the keyboard is great, the keys feel great and all, but there is one minor issue, and it has to do with apple USB connectors.
The connectors in the keyboard are very strong and tight, but given the type of USB plugs from, say, an iPod touch, or a mighty mouse, it is VERY hard to pluck them out of the keyboard since they are square and smooth. If you never have to remove apple stuff from the keyboard, there is no problem, but if you do, you'd better have very strong fingers.27 of 34 people found this useful

Great, except for the DVORAK conversion
Written by AB from Goderich
Aug 30, 2009
This keyboard is great, especially if you like the QWERTY layout.
I use the DVORAK layout though, and figured switching would be trivial as it was with all other Apple keyboards I've had, including macbooks and the old style desktop keyboard. This keyboard, however, has all the tabs but two (J and F) in vertical positions. The J and F keys' tabs are horizontal. This means that if you switch the keys, you have to put four back in sideways (J, F, U and H). It's not a big deal, but I'd prefer if all my keys were in the same orientation. I also can't see any reason to put two key tabs in sideways.21 of 36 people found this useful

Indestructible, Superior Key Feel, Immune to Liquid Spills
Written by JL from Hughesville
Aug 29, 2009
The touch and feel of the keys and keyboard are the best of any keyboard that I've ever used. Everyone in the family remarks about how good the touch and feel of the keyboard are.
I spilled a full glass of orange juice directly on the keyboard, Held it under the kitchen sink faucet until the water ran clear. Set it on end on paper tiles for 30 minutes then propped each end with books over an air conditioning register, keyboard side down for an hour. Plugged it in and it worked great. No effect on the keys, no stickiness.
Great for klutzes like me.37 of 39 people found this useful

This is hands down the best keyboard I ever used! I love the keys on it and it looks great on my desk. I can type so much better and the key throws are perfect. The only thing that would make this better would be to make it backlit... Ahhh... I can dream.
Apple hit a home run with this beauty! Now if only the Mighty Mouse was as good...18 of 21 people found this useful

Want to Like it
Written by RH from Seattle
Aug 22, 2009
I want to like this keyboard. It's a gorgeous object and looks great on my desk.
Unfortunately, the low profile flat keys make maintaining a consistent typing position more difficult than it should be, and their extremely short travel provides little positive feedback. I find the half-size function keys impossible to hit without looking.
The fn key is badly located for a modifier key, and requires weird contortions to use it. And Apple's habit if using standard icons to represent the other modifier keys but not printing them on the relevant keys continues.
Worse, the handsome matte white keys don't stay handsome long. They're dirt magnets, and quickly stain to a uniform level of dinge that defies cleaning.
Finally, I've been through three of them in 18 months. Admittedly, I pound on them 8-12 hours a day and no doubt need to get a life, but still... a keyboard, like a shoe sole, should be designed to take some pounding.
Guess I'm just a sucker for a pretty face...45 of 60 people found this useful
