Do I really have to rate this thing ANY stars?

    Written by KM from Louisville

This past week I had the same problem so many here are having. This power cord is DEFINITELY a fire hazard. But what other choice do we have than to shell out $80 for another piece of trash?

The molding around the edge of the keyboard peeled back and snapped off. My control key falls off.

I'm seeing that what I bought was a MAC, not an APPLE.

    overheats easily

    Written by KF from Houston

Not really fond of this adapter. If you don't plug it in with the prongs on top it falls
out of the plug too easily. It also overheats very quickly, almost to the point of burning your hand as you remove it from the wall. Also, the cord is a bit short.

without a doubt, the worst accessory ever manufactured by apple. I've gone through 8 of them in three years.

    Bad technical design!

    Written by AT

    Jul 1, 2009

It looks beautiful but works ugly. I use it less than 1.5 yrs and it is out of order. The reason is the strain relief between the brick and the cable. It is totally insane to use strains to complete the circuit! They are weak and unreliable. And the worse, Apple doesn't reinforce the ends which makes it easy to break.

You can use the MagSafe safely without worrying breaking it if your MacBook sits on the table all the time, but what's the point for a laptop then?

MagSafe Power Adapters Work Fine for Me

    Written by BP from Georgetown

    Jun 30, 2009

My household has 3 MagSafe power adapters and we have not had any problems with them. I am careful with the cords having experienced cord/connector problems with the pre-MagSafe generations of adapters. Rather than winding the thin cord around the provided "ears" I loop both cords without kinks and secure them with a velcro strip that I attach to the AC end of the adapter.

Never had a problem with heat.

    One drawback is the cost.

    More power cord issues

    Written by JM from Banff

    Jun 29, 2009

Looks like I have had the same issue. The cable fried itself where it joins to the adapter box. I do like the fact that you can switch the length of cable, that is quite handy. And I have had my MacBook Pro for three years... but this is a fairly well known, consistent issue. Too bad. Other than this i've been happy with Apple products. Strange that they haven't fixed or recalled this product, seems to me to be a safety concern.

    upset

    Written by BQ from Columbia

    Jun 25, 2009

Absolutely Love my Mac ... but to buy a new power adapter at $80 is totally disturbing ... I too had the melt down ... tried electrical tape ... got extremely hot and scary ... I definitly feel like it is a defective design ... Apple needs to listen to and support their customers ... you've got too much going for you ... please don't let greed take you over too.

    Melted power cord

    Written by SP from Davis

    Jun 23, 2009

My power cord did the same thing as all the reviews- it melted and the frayed wires are exposed. I don't have the $80 for a new one, and it does seem to be a safety risk.

    FIX YOUR POWER CORDS APPLE!

    Written by KF

    Jun 22, 2009

I've only had my power cord for a year and a half... not a long time when dealing with expensive technology... and I have to replace it. The same exact thing happened to my roommate's power cord... they both melted at the junction of the cable with the magnetic head. I believe the cable is just too thin. I am not happy with this! And it was EXTREMELY hot when I went to pull the broken cord out of my computer... safety hazard? Recall these and/or fix them.

Power Adaptor is troublesome and a safety hazard.

    Written by AS

    Jun 18, 2009

Well, this is the second adaptor I have had to buy and this last one was so hot it melted the surge protector I had it plugged in. Its a neat design, unfortunately it has two major flaws, they are a safety hazard and do not last long. Its starting to get a little spendy trying to keep my MacBook working. $80.00 is alot of money to me right now, as I was let go from my job a couple of weeks ago. I agree with the other reviews, something needs to be fixed or changed with these adaptors or Apple should replace them at no cost due to the design flaw.

No longer works after getting damp

    Written by CE from Brunswick

    Jun 17, 2009

Charger was in my backpack and got a little damp (not wet!). Now it doesn't work. This is ridiculous, especially since i bought my computer 6 months ago. Apple MUST make these more durable--I already shelled out enough money for my computer!

The new adapter, with minor design enhancements (smaller brick, thicker jacketing) is fine improvement. I think this one is going to be ok. Don't abuse your cable and it should last for years.

    replacing power adapter- again

    Written by RB from Robertson

    Jun 10, 2009

Guess I will have to shell out the $80.00 for a new power cord or I will have an expensive paper weight. I sure hope this one lasts longer than the last 2! It seems as if this is a safety issue, and should be recalled - but guess not.I really loved Apple products until this issue came up, guess I will be apologizing to all those I convinced to switch to the Mac Book Pros . :( Hopefully this new adapter will be an improvement.

    meltdown again

    Written by MS from Doral

    Jun 10, 2009

I have now gone through two of these, and they aren't cheap. They both melted at the junction of the cable with the magnetic head. I also went through two on a Powerbook G4. I believe the cable is just too thin.

    onto number 3+

    Written by TA from Montgomery

    Jun 9, 2009

it charges the computer just fine; and its a lot easier to replace than most computer PSA's.

however; ive caught 3 on fire already.

Apple replaced 1 under warranty, and ive bought 1 replacement. Its part of business, I guess. (the last 2 burned at opposite ends... so i spliced them into one massive long power supply, hence the 3+ title)

yes something needs to be reworked or recalled; but until then, im going to continue buying new ones with ease nationwide.

    Another meltdown

Written by DD from Iowa City

The cord melted where it goes into the adapter. It looks to me like this is happening to a lot of them. Mac users should be warned and the adapters replaced. You cannot find them at the resellers. Response?

    Starting to go ....

    Written by MH from WATERLOO

Mine was fine for 2.5 years, but its now starting to get hot where the cord meets the brick, and battery flickers from charging to discharging.

(So to all you smug people who say "no problem with mine" ... your time will come!)
