AWESOME!

I purchased Koss in-ear headphones to replace my stock iphone headphones and thought they were a HUGE improvement over the original ones. However, I gave those to my brother and bought these Apple ones and wow... these are even better. For the price, I don't know many other earbuds that are better than these.
DEFIANTLY WORTH IT!!!3 of 3 people found this useful

Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic
Very good sound for the price
Written by DG from Halifax

After a week, I feel like I finally found the right way to orient the buds in my ears. I have to use a large tip for the left ear, a medium tip for the right ear, and I have to push up on a diagonal when inserting them (while also pulling on my ear to open the ear opening). To be sure It took a week of fiddling to figure out the ideal placement in my canal, and during that time I admit that I had begun to regret my purchase. You have to use quite a bit of volume to get a full sound with rich bass. Though, the volume level I'm using (50%) is still considered safe for isolating earbuds discussed by Audiologists Brian Fligor (Children's Hospital/Harvard Medical School, Boston) and Terri Ives (PCO School of Audiology, Elkins Park, PA) at the "Noise-Induced Hearing Loss in Children at Work and Play," conference—plus all my tracks are normalized to a slightly lower decibel output, so my 50% is probably higher than what normal users would need to get the same sound output I do. Still now that I've sorted out the fit and volume issues, the sound I'm getting from these headphones is very very good, especially considering the price. They are very comfortable as well—once you've found the right size tips for each ear and the right orientation.
I also use a pair of open-back Sennheiser's, and the sound I get from the Apple in-ears compares favorably with those cans. The sound isn't nearly as warm, but it's still rich. The bass is much more precise, as is the rest of the sound. Some people have described the Apple in-ears' sound as clinical, and I can understand why they would have used that description, though I think the negative connotation of the term "clinical" are innapropriate. These earphones can sound as lively and as warm as your music. What I've noticed is that these in-ears reveal the difference in the production/encoding quality of some of the tracks in my collection—differences that other headsets might be more forgiving of.
I've also owned a pair of V-moda and Sennheiser in-ears; both models were in the same price range and I can say unequivocally that, to my ears, the Apple in-ear headphones sound better. In fact both the v-moda and sennheiser sounded muffled compared to Apple's offering. The v-moda had more bass, but now that I've listened to the Apple in-ears, I'm fairly certain that I prefer their more restrained low-end, which sounds natural. (As an aside, the apple in-ears are capable of producing quite a bit more bass if you use the relevant eq settings in your source—on the ipod this would be bass booster. You might want to normalize your tracks first though if you are going to use the EQ on your iPod, since most tracks will clip as soon as you turn this on. I listen to my music without Bass Booster, and find the bass to be more than adequate).
I hope this helps anyone whose sitting on the fence about whether to give the Apple in-ears a try. Remember, sound is a personal thing (like television displays). If you don't like the sound from the in-ears, then take 'em back and try something else.
Good luck.17 of 19 people found this useful

Happy at first, but not now
Written by RL from Plano
Oct 13, 2009
I was initially impressed by the headphones. The sound quality and fit seemed fine when I was sitting in my living room listening to music. But I quickly found out that the ear pieces were a poor fit when exercising.....even just walking in the neighborhood. I tried all the ear piece sizes and none would stay seated in my ear during exercise; I was constantly having to adjust them. Then after a couple of months the microphone stopped working. When I used the play/answer button to answer a call all the person on the other end heard was static. This caused several missed calls before I figured out the problem. So now I can't use the headphones for answering calls and they are marginal at best for listening to music while exercising.

don't waste your money
Written by DS from Jericho

I purchased the apple in ear headphones based on the description that the headphones contain separare speakers and a subwoofer. I was expecting a much fuller sound than the 29.00 headsets that came with the ipod touch. To my surprise
the expensive ones were horrible. They had a tinny, flat sound with virtually no base. The 29.00 oneswere far superior. The ipod touch is an amazing device and for apple to sell these headsets with this promotion is a disgrace. Don't waste your time and money.
I have already done it for you..5 of 10 people found this useful

Very nice headphones, compact, but accessories could use improvement
Written by CH from Santa Cruz

These headphones are a very nice. They help to isolate outside noise. I have a pair of Sony MDR-EX55 which are also in-ear headphones and these ones are much nicer and more compact.
My only complaint is that the carry case is rather poorly designed. First of all, it's made of a hard plastic that easily breaks when pressure is exerted on it. A carrying case should be expected to take on some pressure because it's supposed to be carried in a bag with other things (things that could put pressure on the case). Second, the case required you to wind the headphone wires in very tight angles which essentially crimps the wires. That's bad for the longevity of the wires. My Sony headphones came with a much better design. It came with a case that holds only the earbuds and then the entire headphone and earphone case goes into a soft pouch. This is a much better design.
When you buy these Apple in ear headphones don't even consider the carrying case a benefit. Consider it even not there because it's not well designed and most people won't use it.2 of 2 people found this useful

Disappointing
Written by AC from Duluth

Lost my earphones that came along with iPhone. Bought these earphones with good expectations. Returned it after two days.
Pros:
Nothing.
Cons:
Bad sound quality.
Bad Bass.
Bad everything.
I really did not feel like I am using a $80 earphones. I am more happy with the one that I got along with the iPhone. I bought Klipsh earphones, they are pretty good and priced at 100. But its worth every penny spent. I would say Klipsh are 100 times better than these earphones. To add to that I can get the remote that apple is providing which I use a lot.
Recommendations:
DON'T BUY.
I can't give a 0 rating to my favorite brand hence I gave 1.4 of 8 people found this useful

$80 earphones are a waste!!!!!!!
Written by JM from Sparta

I needed the earphones with the remote. Thought I would splurge!! This was a big waste of money. When I am exercising, of course, I am getting hot and sweaty. Apparently, it does something to the headphones and the volumne won't turn up and down. So, save your money and DON'T buy these!!!!

Very comfortable but no iPhone 3G support?
Written by SS from Berkeley
Oct 10, 2009
I really like the feel of these headphones but why can't Apple put out a firmware update for the 3G iPhone so I can use the mic and volume control??? Makes no sense to me and leaves me stuck with the original ones that came with the phone or - when they break -- to upgrade to the Bose in-ear set. Apple, please make it compatible with the 3G !!! Thanks for listening.

sound quality is incredible! can't hear a thing! i can't even hear myself type right now.
the only downside is that if you have waxy ears like mine, you might need to wipe it once after putting the headphones in. also, you will need to buy quality music. you will hear a crackle in bad quality music.16 of 21 people found this useful

Too Delicate
Written by DI from SOMERVILLE
Oct 7, 2009
Had these for 9 months before giving up on them. Sound quality is not great, and I could not get a good fit in my ears with any of the rubber caps. These are terrible to use for working out - they can't stand up to any sweat, and they seemed to be very sensitive to heat. Incompatibility of volume controls with iPhone 3G was the last annoyance (I knew this ahead of time, but could have overlooked if the headphones worked well).

Excellent product!
Written by VC from Tampa
Oct 7, 2009
As with everything Apple, I wanted these as soon as they came out. I waited for a few reviews though, since I had in the past purchased "high end" in-ear headphones (Shure) and had been disappointed. These do not disappoint, they are excellent. Sound quality is as promised. Not too boomy, clear highs, and the details that can be heard, makes it a joy to re-discover your music library. Totally recommended.

Good sound with things to consideer
Written by MR from HOFFMAN ESTATES
Oct 6, 2009
The value of the product is really good, nice sound for an affordable price.
Just realize that these headphones achieve sound isolation by sealing the rubber tip to your ear (is like you insert your fingertip in your ear: You hear you voice from iniside your head). So chewing, eating or anything rubbing with the cords is listened in, a maybe, unconfortable way.
Jogging or making any outdoor activities with these headphones could be unconfortable. Could be good choice for listining while doing nothing, long air travel or train commuting.
Try them before buying.10 of 13 people found this useful

I received these earphones as a gift and was quite excited until I tried them out. Sound quality was poor (not as good as the standard apple ear phones I got with my Nano and the remote did not work. I cannot believe that this is an Apple product. I plan to return them and try another pair of the same ones just b/c I am in disbelief...must be a defective pair??

Rather good, and then again...
Written by EJ from København S
Oct 5, 2009
I have had them for ½ year now and they broke yesterday, now only playing in the right ear. This is anyhow an acceptable lifetime. The problem is that the rubber that you put on (Small/Medium/Large) gets loose rather quickly, which will eventually end up with you losing one or two of them - after that you'll have to mix n' match the remaining ones until they are gone too.
But still, i am buying the exact same headset again because it's just so much better to the iPhone with the remote to take calls and adjust the volume without taking out the phone itself.
Hope the review of a frequent user helps in your descition.13 of 18 people found this useful
