    Microphone win, durability fail

    Written by EP from Salem

    Nov 2, 2009

I received these headphones with a used original iPhone and they worked great: The mic picked up voices great, the button is phenomenal. They don't fit my ears well but not many headphones do, so this isn't a big deal. The problem started about 3 months after I got them. The left earbud has a MISERABLY LOUD buzz in it that is especially prominent on classical music that uses a large bass drum. I figured that it was just because they were used and I didn't particularly mind paying 30 bucks for a new pair. They are working great, but a couple weeks after I bought the new set I noticed a faint buzz in the left earbud while listening to something at an above-normal volume. Could this foreshadow the same fate as my previous set? Only time will tell. I certainly hope not.

    Fallen Apart

    Written by MW from Kelowna

    Oct 4, 2009

Mine suffered the inevitable washing-machine treatment. This did not damage them at all. The microphone, button, and sound output still worked fine after a short time in the filling of the machine. I took them out before agitation began. So +2 stars for that.

However, the covers on the earphones developed small cracks along the edge. Soon these developed into large cracks, and eventually small bits fell away, and the covers could no longer stay attached to the back piece. The small speakers have come out and I cannot put them into my ear any longer. They are effectively broken. 12 months is all these have in them.

    Fine but short-lived

    Written by DL from Philadelphia

I'm no audiophile, but I find that the standard iPhone earplugs work fine and are adequately comfortable & stable.

BUT, they only last about 2-3 months and then something about them breaks. Either one side starts to buzz or the controller breaks in some way.

LUCKILY, Apple honors its warranty. I stop by the ATT store and pick up a new pair. I've now done this numerous times.

I don't think I'm doing anything especially harmful to the earplugs, although I use them when I work out.

really comfortable, good sound quality and i love to control button, but they're just not durable enough. i started using them for my iPhone less than a year ago and I'm already on my third pair.

    Fair sound quality, but uncomfortable

    Written by JB from Albuquerque

A good bang for the buck. However, only the toughest individual will be able to withstand wearing this headset for more than an hour or two. Pretty good base, treble, and iPhone control for $30. It's especially a good backup set for those who invest in a high-end headset.

    fall out too easy!!

Written by SL from Los Angeles

    Aug 3, 2009

My i phone is black but it comes with white earphone.
I don't know why apple has only white earphone.
Anyway, I don't have any complain of it's sound quality. but...
this earphone doesn't stay at my ear. It fall out too easily, especially right one.
I mean every time I move my head right or left, they just fall out.
that's the only one I have complain out this earphone.

i really liked the idea of these but i always turned the apple earphones a different direction to get better sound out of them but with the little controller on these earphone it always makes it fall down so i was really bummed about that since my regular apple earphones that i used broke. so i like them but only if i want to use them for background music.

Great little microphone, but totally impractical headset.

Written by HM from Nyjobing Sj

The mic is great - makes excellent voice recordings on a Nano 4th generation - but it causes the right ear bud to fall out far too easily.
Nice to have a remote volume / pause button, but you have to grope for it - and pull out the ear bud.
The mic should have been separate and closer to the mouth, the remote switch further down and on the lead before it splits into two.

    New Design Plez

Written by MM from Bell Gardens

    Jul 22, 2009

I got my IPhone in March and my earphones are already useless. First my right one began to fall apart then the left and then the left one just didn't want to work anymore and soon after the right. Now I'm earphone-less and being a student I can't afford to spend $30 on a pair of earphones. I'm disappointed with the products Apple is coming out with, they are not lasting. =o( I did love the sound quality and the ipod features while they lasted.

The sound quailty is good, but it falls down off your ears and it doesn't fit in. Good sound but not useful as it keeps falling down off your ears constantly. I Whish it would have a different and more ergonomic design.

breaks too easily, sound is good but silent

    Written by BL from Anchorage

    Jun 25, 2009

I like the quality of the sound from these earphones. However, I don't like how I have to turn them a certain way and turn the volume almost all the way up just to hear out of them. Mine lasted for around 6 months, and then one day sound stopped coming out from the right side. I'm looking at the other comments, and this seems to be a common problem for everyone else. If you're willing to get new ones every 6 months, then these are right for you. If not, get the higher quality ones that last longer.

pretty nice package for the price

Written by GR from New York

    Jun 24, 2009

    First the good:
    * inexpensive relative to many other earbuds
    * sound quality is very good for calls, decent for music. but more important, the sound for callers is also decent--they can actually understand you!
    * durable. I've had another brand i swap off with (much higher cost) and I've replaced the other brand twice while this one is still going strong.
    * you can actually be on calls with both earbuds in. They don't seal completely, so you have some sense of hearing your own voice and can judge volume. With the in-ear buds i have, i wind up shouting at some point and callers tell me to "settle down."
    * i can wear these at the gym and i don't get those little ear-shocks when i start to sweat.

    Now the bad:
    * hurts your ears after about 30 minutes
    * no volume control for iphone
    * sound quality for music is OK, but not great

    Broken again

    Written by BF from Chicago

    Jun 12, 2009

Like everyone else. They sounds fine for a while. Then, they break easily. I just broke my second pair in 6 months. Time to buy another set. I don't see a good alternative you can speak into for under $100.

I love these headphones when they are new. I wear them around at work and don't put them on my ears so i can hear everything else and they work awesome. But after a month or so the button stops working. Then a few weeks later it just completely stops working. They should really be stronger and no break as easily as they do.

    ear bud/mic

    Written by NN

    May 20, 2009

they kill my ears but I use them because of the microphone aspect..I really wish apple would come up with an alternative. I need a pair that hooks behind the ear and has the microphone on it..these hurt and don't stay in..the microphone is excellent. I like that if a call comes in while you are listening to music it automatically goes to the call.

    It's OK

I have the earbuds that came with the iPhone 3G. While the fit and build quality are commendable, the sound quality is a little bit lacking specially when itcomes to low frequencies. I can only compare them to a Bose full headset and my current Shure noise-cancelling earbuds. Both can produce lower frequencies and better overall sound quality.

One very convenient feature with the Apple earbuds is the built-in mic/switch. It also fits well in my ears, which allows me to were them longer than my Shure earbuds. It makes for a good backup earbuds.
