Eh...
Written by DC from Woonsocket
Nov 29, 2009
Sound quality is allright, but not great. It would be better if they fit in my ears better. My biggest complaint for these earbuds is that they don't fit in my ears very well. I don't know if I have big ear canals or what but if i put them in to do yardwork or even just take a walk, I find that they fall out pretty easily. I'm not looking for a set of headphones that clips behind my ears, and I'm not looking to wear a pair of monstrous DJ style headphones. I know of several online merchants that sell "earphone caps" that are basically silicone caps that fit on the iPhone earbud and are reported to help them stay better. I've found them for as little as $2 (that includes postage). I hope it makes them fit like my SkullCandy headphones. Now THOSE are good earbuds!!

They get wrecked WAY too easily..
One second the sound is fine - the next? They're rattling..
Mine actually came apart because I took them out of my ear - and it just came apart..

Only very few will give it 4+ stars
Written by GS from Tucson
Nov 24, 2009
I have several different kinds of stereo/mic headsets for my 3GS.
This Apple version is the worsed all around.
I can hardly get them to stay in my ears even when I'm completely still (sitting/driving). The slightest turn of the head or pull on the cord and they fall out. They are too big to "push" deeper in the ear and they have no silicone surroundings to make them adjust to your own canal (let alone feel comfortable for extended periods). On the plus side, they probably have the best mic quality (sound/pick-up) of the 3 headphones I own.
The others are a $30 set with silicone/adjustable ear buds (great fit!) but mediocre mic pick-up (sorry the brand name escapes me). And the 3rd is the 1st generation Motorola S9 (stereo bluetooth behind-the-neck headset) which has decent fit and decent sound (both delivery and mic pick-up) but is too bulky to tactfully wear at work.
None of these are genuinely "good" (4-stars or better) however. So I will be splurging this xmas on either the Jaybird or Plantronics stereo bluetooth (noise-canceling) headsets (both are over $100).4 of 7 people found this useful

Poor Quality
Written by BS from Meridian
Nov 24, 2009
I echo the negative comments of everyone on here. I'm on my 3rd and last set (4 if you count my Ipod mini). The biggest issue appears to be sound quality in every Apple ear bud I've owned. It's good at first and then starts to fade within a few months. On all sets it's as though the speakers somehow magically rotate within the bud. When I twist them a bit or put the outside of the bud in my ear, the sound is loud/normal but it fades to very weak when worn normally. What's up with that ? They also crumble quickly along the ear bud edges as noted earlier. Except for the very smart mic option for the iphone, I'd give it a one star. The local IMAC store acknowledges how inferior Apple ear buds are and pushes another brand that also has a buiilt in mic.

Bad sound, cheap construction
Written by KW from Gulfport

I'm on my second pair of these -- HATE the white, they're always dirty - I use my headphones at all times and they don't last. My second pair of these this year is already failing (I'm only getting sound out of one earpiece, but have to wear both because the mike is in the earpiece that's failed.)
I 've also purchased the extra special $80 corded earbuds they sell in the Apple Store, hoping for better quality and more solid construction, but after the second pair of these failed after the first month of constant use I've given up! Why can't they come up with a set of "Black" (that matches the phone) earbuds that sound good and don't fall apart with constant use??? I've only had the phone 10 months and gone thru 4 sets of headphones!4 of 4 people found this useful

Why Can't Apple make decent headphones?
Written by JW from BAINBRIDGE ISLAND
Nov 22, 2009
Every other Apple product I have purchased has been high quality, well designed, etc.
But I have had 4 pairs of these over the years. Every single one of them keep falling out of my ears. The only way to get them to stay in is to jam them in so far that they hurt, or you can't hear anything because they are crooked in your ear
The phone mic is great. No problems and high praises.
I just wish Apple would make earphones that are equal to their other products in quality and usability. These aren't up to your standards, Apple!2 of 4 people found this useful

STICKY headset cord
Written by SL from northridge
Nov 18, 2009
the STICKY headset cord is so annoying. it sticks to EVERYTHING! i've tried lubricating it with:
1. baby powder and corn starch(each lasted about 4 hours.
2. wd40
3. 3 in 1 oil
4. orange oil
5. penetrating lubricant
6. garage door lubricant
1-6 lasted about 3 hours.
next i'll try window wax or bee's wax and butchers wax.
APPLE? ARE YOU HEARING THIS. PLEASE PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM
AND WHILE WERE AT IT, INCREASE THE VIBRATION OF ALERTS ON THE IPHONE SO I CAN STOP MISSING MY APPOINTMENTS. AND IMPROVE THE SPEAKERPHONE. $40 cellphones have better speakerphones than the iphone. and let us have multiple apps open at the same time. if this uses up the power too quickly for you than give us the darn option to turn it off using multiple apps at one time in settings.3 of 8 people found this useful

2 down
Written by JM from Baltimore

DON'T spend $30 clams on these. I have 2 pair. Both pair fall out of my ears. The rubber has peelED off of both pair. In less than a year the
older of the 2 has lost sound in one of the buds. C'MON SON. How on earth does a company who can provide me a billion apps and so many other cool features
not be able to provide me with a pair of decent ear buds. C'MON SON! I went to Walmart and purchased a pair of earbuds for $7.99 and they work great and they have
additional bud covers in the pack. So what there is not mic, it don't take much to lift my hand to my ear. To Apple all I can say is C'MON SON.17 of 19 people found this useful

Microphone win, durability fail
Written by EP from Salem
Nov 2, 2009
I received these headphones with a used original iPhone and they worked great: The mic picked up voices great, the button is phenomenal. They don't fit my ears well but not many headphones do, so this isn't a big deal. The problem started about 3 months after I got them. The left earbud has a MISERABLY LOUD buzz in it that is especially prominent on classical music that uses a large bass drum. I figured that it was just because they were used and I didn't particularly mind paying 30 bucks for a new pair. They are working great, but a couple weeks after I bought the new set I noticed a faint buzz in the left earbud while listening to something at an above-normal volume. Could this foreshadow the same fate as my previous set? Only time will tell. I certainly hope not.

Good for basic replacement set
Written by AC from Jasper
Oct 29, 2009
As far as ear-bud sets go, this is the best I've tried. Most ear buds always fall out of my ears, but I guess the rubber "lip" around the speakers helps hold it in place. I prefer these over any "in-ear" design I've ever tried

Sticky rubber!!!!
Written by SG from San Francisco
Oct 28, 2009
Why do the wires have to have the STICKY RUBBER COATING???? They get stuck on everything! Even each other! I've ruined TWO pairs by just trying to pull them out from between layers of clothing, and they grip so much they disconnect completely separating from the main wire.
The original non sticky coating was much better, and slid through clothing layers just fine. Didn't stick to everything they touched.
Is this rubbery coating supposed to serve a function? Is it somehow better than the original?
I'm a big Mac fan, but these are SO ANNOYING!!!3 of 6 people found this useful

good product from apple...
Written by LV from fairborn

This a good product from apple.... .
i have been using this stereo headset for about 1 year. with that experience i'm posting you my review
what's best in this product:- Great Quality, Good output sound, white in color and high sensitive microphone.
The best i think in this product is a single touch button, which acts as both answer button and play your music from your iphone. this button have multifunction such as next song(press twice ), pause(press once), previous song(press 4 times). open your music is hold for 1 sec...
when i put this stereo headset i feel a great comfort which i never experience with any other earphones.
what's i worried about :- it is highly sensitive to dust. so it losses it white color as you use much and so and its not a big problem.
i pressed the single touch button for about 250 times one day listening music all the day. the button is no longer working. so please never press button too hard.
the cost of the iphone stereo is little bit high (because its quality is high)2 of 2 people found this useful

Awesomeness!
Written by YS from Edmonton
Oct 11, 2009
I've been using the same pair for about 3 months now and I don't have a single complaint. They work exactly how they are advertised to work. Not to mention, now I can use some of the neat apps that were previously only compatible with the iPhone, such as 'SmackTalk' (HILARIOUS!). I can make voice clips, and I even prefer these over my blackberry headphones for conference calling and basic phone use. Oh yeah... they're great for listening to music, too. ;) (And the pause, rewind/forward, and volume feature is a major plus!! I haven't had any issues with mine, even despite the fact that I've snagged them on numerous occasions. I would 100% recommend these earphones. :)
