The new shuffle itself is great but the dock is a piece of junk. It sits up in a position to be broken off. I've had it for 2 weeks and it's broken off and useless. A replacement costs $30. It needs to be redesigned to eliminate the cradle and just plug in like the headphones.

I Agree.
Mine has also been snapped because it was on my floor and someone accidently stepped on it. Apple should make a different dock that's just a simple cable.
I'm so disappointed to see such a high price (30 bucks??) for this unsecure stuff..

I think this item needs a price cut

My 6 year old lost her shuffle dock, so I decided to buy another one. Ironically, with the recent iPod Shuffle price cuts, you can get a new shuffle with a dock for $49, but if you want the dock alone it's $29. I can't believe the dock costs 60% of the price for a whole new shuffle. This dock should really be at $10-15.

Apple, please adjust the price accordingly.

I have had the same problem everyone else has had. The metal piece broke off. I was looking around to see how much it costs and $30 is ridiculous when you can buy a new one for $49. I'm going on a trip soon and wanted to have this. I might just buy a new one, but I dont really want to give apple any more money, so I might just go with a different brand.

Bad Dock

The dock is very sensitive, the docking stick connecting it bends, and then it scratches the inside of ipod. The docking stick can break. This is the only dock that is appropriate for a regular computer hard drive, the other one without a cord won't, it needs a longer extension. I've bought two of them already, too sensitive.

The tip of the metal piece of the charger broke after I've had the shuffle for a month. I really like the player itself, but to charge $30 for a cheaply made and easily broken accessory is atrocius. Shame on you, Apple.

This product makes me sick. This is the third one I have bought, and I am a self proclaimed mac addict. I love apple, yet this product...... why is it 30 bucks to replace it, it should be 2.50.

The piece of the shuffle dock didn't break off, but it came loose and then just stopped working. Now the base is 30 bucks! That's ridiculous! I was going to buy an off brand base at Best Buy for 20 bucks, but a new shuffle is only 49! Maybe I should just buy a new one. Maybe that's what Apple wants.

Not a practical charger

The way the charger is designed doesn't allow for it to have a long life. I've only had my shuffle for 2 months and I wasn't able to get more than one charge out of the charger before the tip accidentally broke off. Granted we all know we can take better care of our things, but I shouldn't have to worry more about the charger breaking than the actual shuffle. Not to mention that I bought the shuffle for $50 and the charger is $30. Might as well have bought another shuffle. Instead I found a great charger (less likely to break) at another site for $3 so look around the web if your charger breaks too!

Dock Broke off inside Suffle

My dock broke off inside the shuffle. I was able to get it out using tweezers. The price of this replacement bites. I think it will break again. The engineering is awful, which is surprising given how well designed the rest of the ipod line is.

With all the bad reviews reporting the same problem, I would think Apple would do something about it. That says a lot about Apple, I'm afraid. I'll add another broken dock to the pile. Mine lasted 2 weeks and broke for no apparent reason.

Stereo plug broke in luggage. Too expensive

Recently this dock was broken while in my luggage. I don't know what forces my luggage was subject to, but this was the only thing that suffered any damage.

The design of this dock is poor. The vertical orientation, in combination with flimsy construction, of the stereo plug increases likelihood for breakage.

The price, at a third of the price of the shuffle, is obscene. This part should be around $5. But I have to buy another or my shuffle is worthless. Another Apple gotcha.

I gave my daughter one for Christmas. I truely expected her to lose it, to my shock the dock broke January 19th not even a full month of use. These docks are too fragile and the replacemnet cost of $39.00 is too high. Has Apple come clean yet and started just giving people replacements??? The Shuffle is great!! the dock sucks.

What's All the Complaining About?

Okay, I have a broken shuffle charger stand. My 11-year old daughter stepped on it and broke it.

Yep it has the design flaw of being a cradle with a fixed post. This should be changed. I also have to point out that taking care of things means that they last. I got the shuffle for my 11-year old almost two-years ago. I have more than three-year old iPod Photo. Take care of things and they will last. Leave things laying around on the floor or jam them into a suitcase or backpack and sure you're looking at some problems.

I think it would be a better bet to get a second shuffle for a few dollars more and use the charging stand for both. This is what I plan to do. Get a new 2GB for the 11-year old, and start using her 1 GB for the gym to protect my iPod Photo for that much longer.

APPLE - please drop the cradle, I know, aesthetics, but its a bad design and APPLE is too good for bad design. Fix this product!

I love my shuffle perfect for running, but the dock is badly designed, it broke so easily...i looked this up to see the replacement is $30! might as well buy a new shuffle for that price, what a rip!

Docking station - not good

My situation is almost identical to previous reviews on this topic...My iPod shuffle is no longer being recognized on my computer and it is now dead and will not charge. Consequently, I can't listen to any music or add any new music (not recognized on iTunes either). I think it is unfortunate to not be able to enjoy a product because it's accessories stop working. I love my shuffle so I am frustrated that I can't use it. Is there any solution to this problem? Up until this point, I would have strongly recommended the shuffle (2nd gen) but because of my frustration with charging it recently, I am hesitant in completely recommending it.

30 dollars for this thing! Mine actually lasted for almost two years but for no reason the connection keeps going in and out. I litterly have to put a heavy candle on top of my shuffle while on the doc to get it to charge. It kept going in and out while trying to upload new songs so it made my ipod unrecognizable to my computer, the whole darn ipod had to be reconfigured to factory settings! Now I have to pay 30 bucks for a replacement. No thanks, I guess I'll just have to buy another shuffle and hope that doc doesn't go bad too for no apparent reason.
