Apple iPod shuffle Dock
Dasign flaw
Written by OB
Dec 18, 2006
I recently travelled with my new Shuffle, and when I got to my destination I discovered that the vertical plug of the dock that connects to the shuffle had snapped off in my backpack, rendering the dock useless. This highlights a design flaw in the design of the dock that comes with the 2nd generation iPod Shuffle, in that the vertical plug is susceptible damage.
Perhaps Apple should consider making available a cheaper alternative USB adapter for the 2nd generation iPod Shuffle that does not feature the upright base of the dock, but rather a simple cable with a USB plug at one end and headphone-like plug at the other.1910 of 2278 people found this useful

I have had no problem with this unit. I really enjoyed this model, while it lasted. My fault, (I am clumsy at times), none the less... the docking jack snapped in half because I sat on it. It is quite strong, it takes a lot of pressure, which is a given, to break it. I give it 5 stars for: dexterity, design, simplicity, coming with the iPod Shuffle (2nd Generation), and last but not least, a very tiny, yet versatile little gadget of a portable music player that it comes with. :)

Apple iPod shuffle Dock
Piece of junk
Written by JJ from Martinsburg
Dec 26, 2006
The new shuffle itself is great but the dock is a piece of junk. It sits up in a position to be broken off. I've had it for 2 weeks and it's broken off and useless. A replacement costs $30. It needs to be redesigned to eliminate the cradle and just plug in like the headphones.

Sucks

I Agree.
Mine has also been snapped because it was on my floor and someone accidently stepped on it. Apple should make a different dock that's just a simple cable.
I'm so disappointed to see such a high price (30 bucks??) for this unsecure stuff..1404 of 1795 people found this useful

Dock Flaw
Written by MW

I agree with OB's comments about the new shuffle dock. I had a similar experience, where the dock snapped off in my bag. Buying a new dock seems too expensive for something which is, after all, a replacement for an essential piece of equipment- not an optional extra. I urge Apple to design a new shuffle with a hardier dock.

Faulty design

I'm very dissatisfied with the doc plug on my shuffle as it broke off when loose in my bag. Sure it was loose, but there really isn't any need for a doc; if the 3.5 mm plug was in-line with the cable, this product would be much more rugged.

My Dock Broke Too!
Written by FC
Dec 31, 2006
The same thing that OB talked about happened to me too! I had my dock in my bag and the headphone plug thingy got snapped off! And 30 bucks is a bit steep for something that's probably going to break in exactly the same way. Why don't you make a (cheaper!) USB lead just like the normal iPod ones, with out the dock bit??

Great shuffle, dock not so much

I agree with the previous reviews. I put my dock in a pouch in my (soft-sided) suitcase for a trip, and by the time I opened it up it was broken. The actual cost of my shuffle is therefore more like $110 than $80. Pffft.

The good: small footprint. it works.
The bad: wow...way too expensive. it means my ipod actually costs $50 ($89-$39 for the dock.)
The ugly: apparently it breaks easily. very easily.10 of 15 people found this useful

My dock plug thingy(the place to plug the shuffel onto the dock) broke too! It was on top of the cumputer and when I took it down, it was bent in half! A simple plug, like the headphones, would be much eaisier, all you'd have to worry about would be one simple cord! Shipping on the new dock was preety quick thuogh, even if the price was a little hard.

shuffle docking station
Written by GH

I am one of the increasing number of dissatisfied customers who have had a problem with the docking ststion. My mishap occured at home when one of my sons moved the computer where the docking station sat, a simple fall caused the lead to bend on my unit ever so slightly. When I tried to jar it back into place it snapped and hasnt worked since. I enjoyed the unit to this point but will think twice before investing money in a company who offers no other alternate source of power or music transfer than a flimsy product such as this station.

Bad design, plug snapped off.

I'm very disappointed with the dock design on my shuffle. Plug broke off when it was loose in my bag. I am sure it doesn’t take much force to break it off. DESIGNER! Please make the 3.5 mm plug in-line with the straight cable. That would be a nice accessory cable in addition to a dock. Also, $30 for a dock is a bit too much.

Breaks Very Easily
Written by WH from Hanover
Jan 8, 2007
Like some of the other reviewers, my shuffle dock was broken simply by putting it in my backpack. I am not rough on my gadgets and this is not normally the type of complaint I would make about ANY apple products-- BUT this this is way too fragile for my liking.
30 dollars to replace it? huh?29 of 29 people found this useful

another broken dock

i like to keep up with the latest trends, so when i realized i had left my dock behind after a weekend trip, i decided to have it sent to me in the mail, ensuring that it would end up broken, just like everyone elses.
actually, my friend sent it in full bubblewrap, and it still managed to snap off. didn't even get to put a single song on it before shelling out the ridiculous $30 for a replacement dock. i'd keep my fingers crossed for a recall, but one of them is already busy conveying my thoughts on the awesome design.23 of 26 people found this useful

Stepped on the dock.
Written by GI from CLEVELAND

This was my wife's shuffel, and I broke the dock. It had fallen off the desk and I stepped on it. I have the old shuffel, and it is more durable. Now I have to buy her a new dock. If it didn't have that silly base and was, as mentioned before, a simple straight plug, I'd not be in hot water with the wife. This should be corrected. Had I been barefoot, it would have punctured my foot, possibly leading to an infection. So, not only is this a poor design for durability, it is also a potential safety hazard since the base is not heavy enough to stay on a desk but heavy enough to keep the point upright.

Well, I got my Shuffle for Christmas, and already my dock is broken.. i do not carry it around, but leave it on my desk, TOTALLY out of harms way.. it just stopped working the other day.. i have NO idea what happened, but I am angered by it... may i make a suggestion, if you are going to make a dock which consists of such poor quality, maybe the replacement shouldn't be so pricey..

Broken dock
Written by KQ from Toronto

I too feel the pain. I received an iPod shuffle for Christmas and the dock has only ever been on my desk or in my lap top bag. This morning when I retrieved it from the bag the pin was bent. Very steep replacement price considering the cost of the entire unit. Disappointing really.
