    Are you kidding me?

My BMW is a piece of junk too because every time I slam it into a tree it breaks. Gimme a break! Stop stepping on the dock. The dock does exactly what it's supposed to do. All these people are same ones who complain when they drop their iPod in the toilet and then blame the ipod for not magically fixing itself.

    Mine broke too, but...

    Written by JH from Platteville

My ipod dock worked great for a year. I knew it had a fine electronic connection and I was always very careful when fitting it to the ipod-always. Then I stepped on the corner of my computer bag. Fortunately the dock was the only casualty. Yes it could be stronger and less costly, but mine didn't break by itself. After reading the reviews, I'll be twice as careful with the new one. I'll still give it 5 stars because the dock really does work well. My advice to apple engineers is to make the short white guide/peg about an inch tall to help protect the pin!?

    Dock

I love the shuffle. I bought a transmitter that it plugs into and it plays to any fm radio. I don't listen to the radio stations anymore and I don't have to fool with or carry cd's except to load them to Itunes library. I use several jacks and only the dock pin broke. Now it is worthless. First my son broke his and I thought he wasn't careful enough and then I broke mine, now both are useless. $30.00 for another dock when so many other people are having the same trouble doesn't sound fair. The ear phone plug is fine and my transmitter plug is fine and no one else's are breaking just the dock pin. What a shame!

    Works for me...

Obviously the ratings for a replacement product will be low. A strong majority of the people buying this product broke their old one. I personally have multiple computers/workstations and simply purchased this product to have another docking station on a different computer. Works great for me. If you're careful with this product like you should be with everything else it works great. Just make sure you're careful when taking it on and off the dock and you'll be fine, that simple.

    Stop Complaining

Written by TB from Grand Island

    Mar 3, 2007

This is not so much of a review, but a statement as to people complaing about the way the headphone jack breaks, and that apple should just make a cable that has a usb plug on one end, and a headphone jack on the other: the fact of the matter is that it will never happen, there is too much risk involved. If they were to release a product like that, ignorant people would try to plug it into the jack on their full-size ipod, which would blow out the ipod's battery, and possibly cause an electrical fire, including your ipod and your computer shorting out.

The fact of the matter is that you can buy such cables from different stores, but at what risk are you doing so? A child or family member of yours accidentally do this, and ruin a $300 piece of electrical equipment, and possibly your computer. just stick with this or the marware travel dock.

I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about! I've had my shuffle for almost a year and I've never had a problem with my dock...until today. I bent the pin and it serves me right for leaving it in my backpack for weeks. Yes, $30 for a new dock seems a little expensive but so what? I love my shuffle and it's worth it if it'll let me listen to it again!

I have had the dock for 3 months and have not had any problems. It seems the persons having difficulty are the ones who are packing it for travel or dropping it. Just keep it in a safe place and use care as with all electronic equipment.

Don't know why everyone's having trouble?

Written by HH from Fort Collins

    May 13, 2007

I've had my shuffle for several months now and I'm charging it right now. I've put the dock in my backpack to go to my mom's house 80 miles away and it was fine... it's also fallen to the ground several times and has sat on the floor for some time and it still works. I've been in a hurry before some mornings after charging it all night so I would say I've probably yanked on it and put the shuffle on somewhat aggressively, but it still works. If it breaks, I'll get a new one, but so far so good.

I've had mine for about a month (and this is my first dock). I don't know how the tip could just break off unlees you box with it. Mine sits on a granite countertop all day long so I don't get those problems. But I might be traveling with it soon but I know how to take care of it. Oh yeah, Apple I LOVE my orange shuffle.

You gotta be careful with this product.

    Written by JM from Nashville

You gotta be careful with this product. I've been reading about the people who have had them break. You can't stuff it in a bag and expect it to not break. Also, you have to read the instructions on how to use it. You gotta think, you got an iPod. You got a responsibility. You don't just try it for an hour and give up. You get out there and you read how to use it. Apple makes great products.

personally i like the dang thing

    Written by JE from Denver

i find nothing wrong with my shuffle, i love mine and it goes everywhere with me except the shower. it would be real nice if there was an external battery for the second generation shuffle, but i'll give the good folks at apple some more time on it.

i'v been reading the complaints about the dock peg thing breaking off real easy. do yourself a tremendous favor by either saving the clear case you shuffle can in, or better yet, ask the closest chick if she has any of those small hinged boxes nice jewelery comes in... pad with gauze or some such and voila! you got yourself a hardcase.

also, if possible use a bit of tape to secure your dock down.

    JUST FINE...

    Written by CW from Humble

I've had my iPod Shuffle for over 3 yrs now, no problem with charging, download or the dock breaking. The only issue is with me:(...I've seemed to misplaced mine. I agree, if you take care of the dock, it will work just fine! My 9 yr old has had the shuffle the same amount of time as I have and hers also works fine!! TAKE CARE OF YOUR THINGS AND THEY WILL LAST LONGER!!!!

Does what it's suppose to do..

Written by BW from Grand Rapids

How can some say there is a design flaw? That is the way it needs to be, as any other design would need to increase the size of the iPod shuffle itself. I have a shuffle, as does my wife and daughter. Out of three docks, none have "broke" in two years.

I purchased another one to keep at work and both have always worked fine for me. I think it is awesome engineering...Simple.

C'mon people! If you leave it on the floor, abuse it, step on it, etc...it's going to break. Guess what...your iPod will break if you step on it too!

It would be easy enough for Apple to make a straight non-dock cable however. Apple should make one and offer it to all of you who keep your iPods on the floor. :)

Ok, I've heard all these horrible reviews about everyones ipod braking and such but really its your fault. I have lost my ipod charger and paying a $30 fee for a new one is not ridiculous at all. It's a far exchange. I love my ipod and use it every day, but people who complain $30 to buy a replacement isnt bad at all.

    Good dock, silly reviews

    Written by KC from Chester

    Sep 12, 2007

Many of the reviews on here talk about breaking the pin on the dock which made me pause before buying the shuffle. If the people writing these reviews are for real, then they are true klutzes. The pin on the dock is the same as a typical headphones pin. In fact, it goes in the same hole on the shuffle as the headphones pin. If you've managed to plug in your headphones without breaking the pin then you won't break the pin on the dock.

There's also some nonsense on here about corrosion. If your headphones pin isn't corroding now, your dock pin won't corrode either.
