Tip broke off making dock trash. Worse than a cheap toy but an expensive piece of Garbage at $30. Apple planned on making more off replacing this item then selling new ipods. Smart for business but not fair to consumers.

I recently owned the original shuffle for about 2yrs but the tip broke off. I purchased the newer shuffle. The original dock the metal piece broke off. I purchased another dock and that worked all of 20min. I am still awaiting a replacement. In the meantime my shuffle cuts off after about 20min of playing although I charge the shuffle with a wall charger. Hate this product.

I just got this shuffle as a birthday present 6 days ago. I go to use the dock to charge the ipod, only for the second time since I've had it, and the tip comes off. I figure, meh, the ipod was only $49 so the charger must be around $10. Then I come here and I was shocked! This is absurd and a slap in the face to loyal Apple customers. Quite frankly, I don't see myself purchasing anything from this company in the near future. Not until their products' quality is reflected in the prices being charged.

The vertical metal thing broke off my first dock.
Painful!
I bought a replacement.
This worked for a few months, however now, it doesn't.
Nothing is visibly broken, however there is no USB connection.
Looking at it positively the actual iPod shuffle will have survived three docks - 3 cheers!
Or - realistically - the dock blows.
I'm a realist, me.

The piece of the shuffle dock didn't break off, but it came loose and then just stopped working. Now the base is 30 bucks! That's ridiculous! I was going to buy an off brand base at Best Buy for 20 bucks, but a new shuffle is only 49! Maybe I should just buy a new one. Maybe that's what Apple wants.

I have had the same problem everyone else has had. The metal piece broke off. I was looking around to see how much it costs and $30 is ridiculous when you can buy a new one for $49. I'm going on a trip soon and wanted to have this. I might just buy a new one, but I dont really want to give apple any more money, so I might just go with a different brand.

I cut the dock in half. It has an electronic board inside. So there is more than meets the eye. Maybe, the dock design had to fit the small design of the shuffle. To keep everything small, durability was sacrificed

Bad Shuffle Dock

I got one for you all. The tip of my dock broke off inside of my shuffle when I removed it. It was not hit, bent, etc.. It simply came apart. I had to completely disassemble and use a small drill bit to extract the tip. It worked until the battery died and now is useless without the doc. $29 is too high when you can add $10 and get a second shuffle!!! Apple needs to read these reviews and do something!

Yep....all the reviewers here were right. Apple usually designs its products well. Unfortunately, that is not the case for the 2nd generation Ipod shuffle dock. The problem is pretty obvious...that metal thing breaks off way too easily. Someone needs to do something about this.

Dock more than shuffle itself?

I got my dock and it broke within 2 days. I tried to take it back and the store wouldn't take it back. I found that a shuffle is worth less than the dock. I am astounded at how that is possible, I think I'll wait and buy a 80gb Classic. Apple's products may be expensive but this is by far the most overpriced piece of _____(fill in blank with adjective of choice)I've bought in a while. Stuff at the local dollar store is higher quality as it lasts at least a week.

Same problem, just two weeks after i bought iPod shuffle i found the Dock connector broke off, (well actually it was bent, i broke it off!)I don't know how it happen exactly but i was very disappointed:( Till they make a more durable and sensible Dock I'm going to buy a replacement and fix it to my desk permanently.

Dock Breaks Easily and Warranty Does NOT cover Accidents!

I purchased an iPod Shuffle in April 2008. Less than a month later, the dock is broken. It doesn't take much of an "accident" to break off the plug that inserts into the Shuffle for syncing and charging. I pulled the Shuffle off the dock and it snapped off easily. Not good for unorganized teenagers either. Of course, the warranty doesn't cover "accidents" and to purchase this dock at the Apple Store costs $30. I can almost purchase a new Shuffle, but it's not worth the money if you are prone to "accidents".

i have had a few problems with this thing. first when i would sync with my computer every now and then it would freeze my computer screen, also got shocked a few times while putting the usb into my computer and then it just stopped working.......now i am having a heck of a time finding this thing in the stores. very not happy, not happy at all. since i must give it a star i will but i would rather just leave it blank.

What a waste of money. I thought that the shuffle was such a great deal, until the cheap and poorly constructed dock broke less than a month after I purchased it, rendering the shuffle completely useless! Seriously, make a decent product, not a total piece. Extremely frusterating and not worth the price. Thanks for nothing, apple!

The tip broke off of the dock. Ok, that would have been my fault, however, it is obviously poorly made just by looking at all of the reviews for this product. I won the Shuffle, so I don't see spending money on it just to spend it again shortly after, ecspecially since I could buy a whole new one for $20 more. I will go back to my previous MP3 player and take the loss for the songs that I can't play on it.

I purchased an ipod shuffle and I think its sufficient for what my needs are. Its conveniently small, its not bothersome to carry around, and its just an all around good product.

Not too long ago I did step on the dock and crushed the stem. That was my fault, and it had nothing to do with the quality of the product.

WHAT A HUGE PIECE OF GARBAGE!!!!!! I bought a shuffle for my 13 year old son as a gift, what a great gift. 3 months after I bought this for $50, I have to spend an additional $30 keep it working because of the poor construction of the shuffle. Like has been said by others this must be the APPLE way of selling more NANOS... once you have spent all of this money on ITUNES you NEED a WORKING IPOD to listen to all of the music that has been purchased.... WHAT A HUGE SCAM..
