It's true- it's fragile
Written by SM from columbus
Aug 16, 2008
Every connection device for the Shuffle is going to connect your ipod and do it with virtually the same speed, this model notwithstanding, so my rating doesn't have anything to do with performance. Electronic, that is, at least, because the physical design of this model is extremely poor. The ipod shuffle is designed and marketed as an even more so "take-your-music-anywhere" device than other, already portable ipod models. so wouldn't it make sense that people would like to travel and carry their shuffle with them anywhere? yes it would. and wouldn't it make sense that apple make a dock with travel durability, and not with perpendicularly protruding parts? yes it would. but they did not. and this docks 3.5 mm jack snaps off like a wet paper bag. i took this connector with me on a 3 day trip, cautiously placing it in a small compartment at the very top of my backpack and yet it still managed to break. in addition, apple is charging $30 for a new one, which is absurd given it likely took less than five to manufacture. if you are smart you will stay far away from this product.

Apple iPod shuffle Dock
susceptible to damage

I got my shuffle yesterday. I brought the dock to work with me in my bag, and when i got there the plug had snapped off. And now they want to charge me another $30 for a new dock? Wow, you would think they'd make them more durable than that. judging from all the comments on there this is not an isolated issue.

Not a practical charger
Written by SS from Ann Arbor
Aug 5, 2008
The way the charger is designed doesn't allow for it to have a long life. I've only had my shuffle for 2 months and I wasn't able to get more than one charge out of the charger before the tip accidentally broke off. Granted we all know we can take better care of our things, but I shouldn't have to worry more about the charger breaking than the actual shuffle. Not to mention that I bought the shuffle for $50 and the charger is $30. Might as well have bought another shuffle. Instead I found a great charger (less likely to break) at another site for $3 so look around the web if your charger breaks too!

Apple iPod shuffle Dock
Fragile and too expensive
Written by SW from Needham
Aug 3, 2008
I received this dock with my iPod shuffle, and after 6 months of use it appears to be in perfect working order, but is almost impossible to use. The iPod shows up as an "Unknown USB device" in Windows and does not work until much fiddling by reseating the shuffle.
My solution: order a generic cable without a prong sticking up for <$2.43 of 46 people found this useful

Cheap Product
Written by MS from Salt Lake City

I agree with what everybody else has said on here, my dock was on the floor, and the tip that inserts into the headphone jack got broken. I don't want to pay 30 dollars for a new one when a new shuffle only costs 50 bucks

Worthless
Written by ML from Nelsonville
Jul 25, 2008
Cheaply designed and cheaply made. The prong that inserts into the iPod itself breaks far too easily and then they want you to pay $30 to get a new one??? I only paid $40 for the whole package...worthless, as I've said, and I see that you all agree. iPod shuffle dock 2nd generation I award you one star only b/c I can't give you negative stars...I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul

CHEAP!!!!!!
Written by JP
Jul 17, 2008
I did not want to rate this product by their stars as I do not believe it deserves even one star. I bought my iPOD shuffle after trying a family members and liked the quality of sound; I went and bought the shuffle. Within the first month (June 2008) of purchase the tip of the dock came apart. Needless to say I was very disappointed. I will be contacting Apple about a replacement, but after reading all of the reviews I believe I now what their answer will be. You would think that all of the complaints something would be done. So .. after Apple reads the reviews for the sake of keeping satisfied customers I hope that someday they will change their policy and do the right thing for their customers and replace what they already know THEIR DOCK IS CHEAP AND WORTHLESS. At least give 50% off replacement costs. After all most sales are by word of mouth. I will speak my voice.

Mehhh...
Written by DR from Astoria

I bought the shuffle for my boyfriend for Christmas. As soon as I saw the charger/docking prong sticking up, I knew it was only a matter of time. It didn't quite seem to fit whenever we would connect it to the dock. He actually made it til June of the following year before breaking it while running errands all over the city with it in his pocket, with his phone, keys, wallet, gum, pens, you get the picture.. That being said, I notice several people who have written reviews left their chargers on the floor, near babies and dogs, etc. Like someone said earlier, if you just leave it on a flat surface, it would probably fare better. BUT it is designed to be a device with a certain degree of mobility, hence the wall charger part so... Considering it was my boyfriend's fault it broke, my gripe is: $29, SERIOUSLY!?!?!?! Fine when I bought the whole thing for $75 but the shuffle is now less than twice the dock. C'mon Apple, throw is a bone.

My Two year old 25lb hit it with his foot and it broke off the connector. You can buy a replacement for over half the price of a new one, not worth it till prices come down

Appalling
Written by SZ from Encino
Jul 14, 2008
I have had scores of Apple products over the past twenty years and this is clearly the worst piece of hardware design possible. When I got my shuffle (which I love) I wanted to buy an additional dock for another location. I went to the store and then read the reviews. I thought that the other consumers were over reacting. Wrong! The docking stem broke off in less than a week. What do you need a dock for anyway? A simple plug would be fine.

piece of garbage
Written by AA from Durham
Jul 10, 2008
I had had my Ipod for about 1 month when my mom(not wearing shoes) sat down and stepped on it. Even with barely any weight, the metal part bent. I tried to move it back, but instead it broke. Apple should either make a straight connector or make this cheaper. As for now, I will try to search for an aleternative. $30 plus shipping when you can get a whole package(shuffle, dock, etc.) for $50!?!?

Apple iPod shuffle Dock
disappointed, for the first time
Written by EC from boalsburg
Jul 7, 2008
I've been using Apple products for over 10 years. I have their stickers on my car. I am loyal to the brand, and for the first time they've disappointed me. This dock has got to be the most poorly designed thing they've every released. I stepped on my first one, and the metal piece snapped off. That was my fault, no lie. The second one I had just stopped working. I am overseas ATM, so I had nowhere to get real help. I started using my fathers, which he has used only a few times since purchase, and it appears as though this one is giving up the ghost, too. When I put my shuffle into place, the light only turns on when I apply pressure to the top. When I let up, the device ejects itself. This is unacceptable. I hate that this is reducing my usage of my shuffle, as I LOVE it to death, but I could have just bought an entirely new one for less than the cost of new chargers.
I'd like to echo everyone else and ask Apple to make a dockless charger, with a piece at the end of a cable.26 of 30 people found this useful

My dock broke...
Written by CS from Bozeman
Jul 6, 2008
I haven't had the new shuffle for very long and I went to use my dock to charge my ipod and noticed the metal thing was all bent out of shape, tried to use pliers to make it straight but there is no connection and the ipod doesn't light up when plugged in. I can't believe this has already broken, I am careful with my stuff so I'm not sure how this got totally bent but not cool. I'm really disappointed

Faulty Charger Jack
Written by TC
Jul 5, 2008
I like many others have experienced the loose headphone charger jack for the 2nd Gen iPod Shuffle, only mine had a loose jack right out of the package. The plastic package was not cracked nor was it abused in any way at all. I have not even gotten to use this charger yet and had to resort to using a friends when I have the chance.
I have not tried to contact Customer Service yet, and am not sure if it's really going to be worth my while as they will most likely come up with some way to blame the mishap on me. I am very disappointed to say the least. You should at least improve the way that the chargers are made by either making a charger cover or collapsible jack to better protect the jack.

I like it
Written by JP from Groningen

I don't know why everyone is complaining about the dock. As long as you keep it in one place, connected to the USB-port, there's nothing wrong with it. I have mine now for over a year and I never had any problems with the dock.
Only thing is that the price is very high for just one for extra.5 of 17 people found this useful
