Apple iPod shuffle Dock (2nd generation)
cheap
Written by DT
Nov 2, 2008
I wish I had read the reviews before I purchased my shuffle. I love the shuffle, works great while riding my motorcycle, but the tip bent on the dock, rendering it worthless. I had it in a safe place I thought, but apparantly something got set on it. Very poor design in my opinion.

This product makes me sick. This is the third one I have bought, and I am a self proclaimed mac addict. I love apple, yet this product...... why is it 30 bucks to replace it, it should be 2.50.

For such a cheap product, it broke by the way, it is better to just buy a new shuffle than another dock.

Expensive!

At this price.. buy a new iPod. I only paid $55 for the shuffle. I am not paying $39 for the Dock. To be honest the iPod shuffle is great, the dock sucked, poor design, I expect more from Mac.

Do Not Buy
Written by CG

All of a sudden my dock stopped working. I opened it up to see if I could fix the wiring myself, only to find the wire had snapped in the middle. I'm very disappointed and would not buy another dock/shuffle, nor would I recommend them.

Don't buy an ipod shuffle
Written by SS from Fayetteville

Don't buy an iPod shuffle. The docking station is an inferior design. I've used mine once, it broke, and now, if I want to use it more, I have to fork out another $30 bucks to get a new docking station (that will break).

Stereo plug broke in luggage. Too expensive
Written by RF from Napa
Sep 30, 2008
Recently this dock was broken while in my luggage. I don't know what forces my luggage was subject to, but this was the only thing that suffered any damage.
The design of this dock is poor. The vertical orientation, in combination with flimsy construction, of the stereo plug increases likelihood for breakage.
The price, at a third of the price of the shuffle, is obscene. This part should be around $5. But I have to buy another or my shuffle is worthless. Another Apple gotcha.54 of 60 people found this useful

What's All the Complaining About?
Written by DB from Centennial

Okay, I have a broken shuffle charger stand. My 11-year old daughter stepped on it and broke it.
Yep it has the design flaw of being a cradle with a fixed post. This should be changed. I also have to point out that taking care of things means that they last. I got the shuffle for my 11-year old almost two-years ago. I have more than three-year old iPod Photo. Take care of things and they will last. Leave things laying around on the floor or jam them into a suitcase or backpack and sure you're looking at some problems.
I think it would be a better bet to get a second shuffle for a few dollars more and use the charging stand for both. This is what I plan to do. Get a new 2GB for the 11-year old, and start using her 1 GB for the gym to protect my iPod Photo for that much longer.
APPLE - please drop the cradle, I know, aesthetics, but its a bad design and APPLE is too good for bad design. Fix this product!57 of 69 people found this useful

30 dollars for this thing! Mine actually lasted for almost two years but for no reason the connection keeps going in and out. I litterly have to put a heavy candle on top of my shuffle while on the doc to get it to charge. It kept going in and out while trying to upload new songs so it made my ipod unrecognizable to my computer, the whole darn ipod had to be reconfigured to factory settings! Now I have to pay 30 bucks for a replacement. No thanks, I guess I'll just have to buy another shuffle and hope that doc doesn't go bad too for no apparent reason.

Purchased my shuffle less than 2 months ago for travel purposes and used it maybe a half a dozen times. Went to charge it for my 8 hour flight, and no juice.... I find $29 for a replacement, a bit excessive when the whole unit was only $49.

The stupidest design ever. apple should be fined for this. they never should have gotten the patent. lamest piece of junk the world has seen to this day. if you are going to make your product so that it will break then at least have the decency to not charge $30 for a replacement.
AND TO APPLE-BECAUSE I KNOW YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BEFORE IT GOES THROUGH, MAKE ONE WHERE THE COMPUTER CHIP IS AT THE BOTTOM BY THE USB PORT AND THERE IS A LONG WIRE GOING FROM THE USB PORT WITH A JACK JUST LIKE THE ONE ON THE AVERAGE SET OF HEADPHONES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's been about a month and the stupid vertical jack snapped. $29 for a new one? really? when the shuffle only costs $49? methinks this is where apple is making the $ on these things.

guess what - broke after third use
Written by FM from Grafrath
Aug 25, 2008
i charged my new shuffle 3 times and the dock already gave up.
i've got 5 or 6 ipod-cables lying around here which all are pretty interchangeable between each other, but no help for the shuffle.
since it was actually most probably someone who stepped on the dock, i cant send it in to apple.
the pricing for this replacement is just off the top... i openend mine up to find a tiny pcb - i think the production costs are below 8$.
i'm going to visit my local electronics store to buy a 4 pin plug i can solder to the board - if thats not working out i guess i'll buy another shuffle16 of 20 people found this useful

Not good for travel.
Written by JB from Auburn
Aug 24, 2008
I took it with me to California. I kept thinking about the pin breaking while in my bag. Sure enough it was broken when I got there. I had no way to charge it while away from home cause i wasnt going to buy another one away from home so it could happen again. Its perfect if you dont move the dock and only use the shuffle when your close to home. Dont travel with the wire cause it will break.

If you only have the new shuffle i suggest you buy this, but if you are planning to buy another ipod after this one i suggest you don't because it wont work for it .

Total Piece of Junk
Written by RM from AFFTON

Wow. Most people have USB ports at the bottom/back of their computer. Now, the iPod shuffle dock plugs into the USB port. This requires it to be on the ground. If something has a ridiculously fragile stem that bends whenever slight pressure is applied, it will bend when on the ground. And if the metal stem is broken or bent, you can't put the iPod on correctly, and the computer can't read it.
Apple, get with it and make a durable dock. Now I have to shell out $30 for my SECOND replacement dock! And I'll probably just break it again. Thanks, Apple!11 of 13 people found this useful
