it's been about a month and the stupid vertical jack snapped. $29 for a new one? really? when the shuffle only costs $49? methinks this is where apple is making the $ on these things.

    Total rip off!

What a waste of money. I thought that the shuffle was such a great deal, until the cheap and poorly constructed dock broke less than a month after I purchased it, rendering the shuffle completely useless! Seriously, make a decent product, not a total piece. Extremely frusterating and not worth the price. Thanks for nothing, apple!

    It just broke..

I didn't drop it, I didn't step on it, I just went to plug it in and it didn't work. I've had it for about 6 months, but the post seemed loose from the beginning. What kind of product breaks from regular use? I came here to buy a new one, but for $30? No way, never. I will look elsewhere or buy a different mp3 player altogether - that's outrageous.

    Easy to break

Mine broke, and I don't think I did anything bad to it. It was in a small pouch in my bag, now it doesn't work. I guess it got knocked? Nothing else in there is damaged, and I keep other electronics/CD/etc in there. It's a special pouch that's pretty much out of harm's way, that's why I put it there. Closer inspection shows it's bent, and refuses to connect to the computer. Why is a new one $30? It's so simplistic. Overall: boo.

    apples fault but I pay??

thank you apple for making a bad dock that breaks even if you give it a dirty look. so basically i have to pay 30 buck for more trash?? the prong bent in the dock and now i can't charge my shuffle or download my music. i popped open the back and the delicate wires that connect to the prong we're so very nicely broken in half. i think you need to go back to the drawing board on this one.

    shuffle dock

I agree with the many entries revealing the cheap quality of the Ipod shuffle docking station. It was easy to use, but even easier to break. I recieved a shuffle for mothers's day from my two kids. They saved up and bought if for me. Loved the shuffle but my 11 year old daughter broke the charger within a couple weeks and felt horrible. $30.00 to replace it is ridiculous. Apple should be embarassed.

    Better off getting generic cable

I lost my deck, so I bought a cable for $9 on another website. When I finally found my dock, it was bent in a matter of a week. Even when I bend it back, it didn't work. Seeing how the suffle is only $79, why does the dock cost so much. If you want this dock, might be cheaper to go to Fred Meyers and get it. No shipping costs.

    Piece of junk

This thing is designed to break. I would not recommend an Ipod shuffle in this form because it's so easy to break the cord, and your only option at that point is to buy a replacement directly from apple for $30 (almost half the price of the device itself).

    Apple Clearly Has A Problem

I preordered the new shuffle to replace my old one and liked it for a while. I have an 80GB iPod that I use for everything except for workouts and so I wouldn't consider my use of the shuffle to be too hard. Like everyone else it seems, once I head off with the dock anywhere but on my desk it breaks. Personally, I dont think this dock is even really important and that apple coult have very easily provided a more durable cable that didn't bend and break.

Great shuffle, dock not so much

I agree with the previous reviews. I put my dock in a pouch in my (soft-sided) suitcase for a trip, and by the time I opened it up it was broken. The actual cost of my shuffle is therefore more like $110 than $80. Pffft.

    Bad design

Just like all the other reviews, I had mine for about a week and the thing that sticks up broke off. It was actually cheaper to buy a refurbished ipod shuffle than a new dock. Guess what? That one broke off also. I now have two shuffles and no dock. What a piece of junk! I would give it less than one star but that's now an option.

    Absolutely Terrible

It is impossible to use mine now. I've used it maybe 3 times, probably less, and I am unable to continue to use it. The only way to use it is to press down with immense pressure on top of the shuffle (which cannot be good for it) and eventually the charging light comes on. Basically, this product is terrible. If I could give this product 0 stars, I would.

    It's true- it's fragile

Every connection device for the Shuffle is going to connect your ipod and do it with virtually the same speed, this model notwithstanding, so my rating doesn't have anything to do with performance. Electronic, that is, at least, because the physical design of this model is extremely poor. The ipod shuffle is designed and marketed as an even more so "take-your-music-anywhere" device than other, already portable ipod models. so wouldn't it make sense that people would like to travel and carry their shuffle with them anywhere? yes it would. and wouldn't it make sense that apple make a dock with travel durability, and not with perpendicularly protruding parts? yes it would. but they did not. and this docks 3.5 mm jack snaps off like a wet paper bag. i took this connector with me on a 3 day trip, cautiously placing it in a small compartment at the very top of my backpack and yet it still managed to break. in addition, apple is charging $30 for a new one, which is absurd given it likely took less than five to manufacture. if you are smart you will stay far away from this product.

I got my shuffle yesterday. I brought the dock to work with me in my bag, and when i got there the plug had snapped off. And now they want to charge me another $30 for a new dock? Wow, you would think they'd make them more durable than that. judging from all the comments on there this is not an isolated issue.

I have to force my shuffle down onto the dock to get i-tunes to see it. but when i let go it disconnects. Ive been dealing with this for a year and i am finally going to get a new dock because now it wont hook up at all. Apple please make a better hook up because this one is very poor quality!!!!

    Shuffle Dock

The shuffle itself is wonderful, however the dock along with the USB device has given me
numerous problems. My daughter stepped on the cord and now it's damaged and need to be replaced. I tried to download music and now my computer doesn't recognize the USB cable. I am very busy and it frustrating to have these problems. I use my shuffle to get me thru my day and not being able to download music or recharge my shuffle is a headache. I want to get it replaced but I am skeptical because I don't want to have this problem again. Apple is a great company but there seems to be a design flaw with the dock and USB device.
