Apple iPod shuffle dock = waste o' money

If you bend the dock's pin even slightly, then get ready to cough up 30 clams for a new dock. I had a hard time figuring out why my shuffle wouldn't charge; the bend in my pin was so slight I didn't notice it until after several minutes of inspection. I purchased the shuffle b/c it's both convenient and affordable. Unfortunately, the dock's cheap design makes it neither since a new dock is almost as expensive as buying a new shuffle, and, obviously, it can't be used without a charging device. I'm shopping around for a replacement product; purchasing a new dock every few weeks or months isn't the quality I expect for 30 bucks (or from this company). C'mon Apple!

Poorest quality product ever made by Apple

I have 3 teenage children and therefore have purchased well over $1000.00 worth of Apple Products and this is the first time I could say that I feel very disappointed in the quality of a purchase. The replacement dock is very overpriced in my opinion. This item broke very easily in my own hands. I know you can do better.

Horrible. The metal piece that connects to the shuffle became bent and no longer charges my ipod. Not impressed, and now I have to dole out $30 more bucks to replace it? That's more than half of what I paid for the shuffle + the charger!

Like so many others this fragile device has broken. The pin has bent and it is unuseable and very expensive to replace relative to the price of the shuffle in the first place.

Yep....all the reviewers here were right. Apple usually designs its products well. Unfortunately, that is not the case for the 2nd generation Ipod shuffle dock. The problem is pretty obvious...that metal thing breaks off way too easily. Someone needs to do something about this.

    DO NOT BUY A SHUFFLE

I love apple products and I recommend them to almost everyone I know. However, since buying 2 iPod shuffles, I have to think twice before I tell anyone to buy anything Apple. This thing (dock/charger) is absolute garbage!!! I don't know how it broke! All I did was leave it on a desk and treated it with care. Did I mention this is my 2nd one and now I have 2 broken docks and now my sister and I are stuck with 2 useless Shuffles. Thanks a LOT Apple! You're name is on this and I'm thinking twice about buying anything Apple moving forward. I mean.. come ON!!! This thing is COMPLETELY USELESS. I guess this is your way to force people to spend more on the Nano, etc. sigh...

How can I have zero stars out of 5?

I had it in my computer case and the prong that sticks up got bent sideways and now does not work. $30 for a replacement. Ridiculous, might as well buy a new ipod. It is a terrible design that is easily broken. I only had the shuffle for 2 weeks!

    Broken iPod shuffle dock

I have to agree with the majority of the reviews on here that this iPod dock was not designed like other Apple products that I've used. Meaning, it was designed terribly, mine broke as well when traveling only after a couple of trips. FYI the 3rd gen shuffle cable was designed the way this one should have been designed, but guess what it does not work with the older generation, of course!! I'm off to spend $30 on the old dock that will surely break on me again!!! Come on Apple I really do expect more.

My charger fell of of the table and broke...
One week after I got it!
These chargers are how apple makes it's money -
    expensive to buy, break easily.
    What a waste!

Tip broke off making dock trash. Worse than a cheap toy but an expensive piece of Garbage at $30. Apple planned on making more off replacing this item then selling new ipods. Smart for business but not fair to consumers.

I agree, my dock fill off my desk and was lightly jammed between with the cabinet door and the cabinet meet, barely even enough for be to realize it hand been there. I went to charge my shuffle, found the prong slightly bent and when I tried to bend it back, I heard cracking.
Not to mention $30 is quite a bit to get it replaced.

To TH 11/6/2007 - no need to be nasty. This is definitely a defective dock. Even with careful handling the prong broke off. Apple should offer replacements at a cheaper price considering the great number of incidents! The shuffle itself is a wonderful product.

    Dock Station Faulty design

My dock station pin got bent and now it doesn't work. I too believe that this faulty design should be replaced for free not $30 close to half the cost of the shuffle.
Shouldn't it be under warranty? It was puchased Dec 2006

Poorly designed for an otherwise great product

    • Written by from Framingham

Let's get this straight- I'm not at all careful with my electronics. That's why I love the dock's counterpart, the sturdy 2nd gen Shuffle. You'd think that the charger would match... However, the dock itself is not designed for mobility in the same way. To those of you keeping it in one place- no kids, no pets, no travel- good for you! It probably still works very well.

Mine has broken twice (always the pin!), and it's depressing to think that just a little more height in the plastic around that flimsy pin would probably protect it better. Anyway, $30 isn't worth it for a replacement. It's poorly designed. There are other ways to connect it to the computer, and other chargers available. There are used, off-brand, or hand-repaired ones, but of course try it at your own risk!

As worthless as the standard headphones

I've had the shuffle for about 3 weeks and already have to buy a new dock because the metal piece of the one it came with broke off in my laptop bag. I didn't put it at an odd angle either. It's not even sturdy enough for normal wear and tear.

    My dock broke...

I haven't had the new shuffle for very long and I went to use my dock to charge my ipod and noticed the metal thing was all bent out of shape, tried to use pliers to make it straight but there is no connection and the ipod doesn't light up when plugged in. I can't believe this has already broken, I am careful with my stuff so I'm not sure how this got totally bent but not cool. I'm really disappointed
