    loss of music

I've had my ipod shuffle for years. I use it for all my music for dance team and now my college company. I've always liked using it because it's so small. On my trip home from school my charger broke and now I'm unable to get to any of my music because as figures my ipod is dead. it's annoying to see how easy this dock keeps breaking and it seems a waste to replace it for $30 just to have that one break also. Why is it that they don't just have the charger for the 3rd and 4th generation ipod work with this one also? They all plug into the headphone socket anyways....

Well I love my 2nd gen Ipod Shuffle but the dock is designed to break. Luckily for me it happened after 2 years of my purchase. The vertical jack just snapped and got stuck in the Ipod. I don't know what to do now!!!:(

unnecessary bulk and way to expensive.

The base of dock portion is too small and light for it to stay where you place it on a desk even with the rubber on the bottom. The cord is stiffer than the dock is heavy and thus dictates where it ends up sitting on my desk. Recently, the end snapped off my dock but I will not be replacing it due to the cost. I find it extremely hard to believe that 65% of the cost of my Ipod when I purchased it was due to the charging cord. Especially since it is clearly just a modified usb cord. My Ipod no longer holds a charge long enough to justify spending $40 on a new dock for it. In my opinion the new shuffle has been out long enough to justify lowering the price of the older docks.

Its good, but stupid! Step on it, leave it out.. it'll break.
AND I don't wanna pay 30 bucks for a new one. Thats about as much as an ipod shuffle WITH a new cable is..

    Docking station - not good

My situation is almost identical to previous reviews on this topic...My iPod shuffle is no longer being recognized on my computer and it is now dead and will not charge. Consequently, I can't listen to any music or add any new music (not recognized on iTunes either). I think it is unfortunate to not be able to enjoy a product because it's accessories stop working. I love my shuffle so I am frustrated that I can't use it. Is there any solution to this problem? Up until this point, I would have strongly recommended the shuffle (2nd gen) but because of my frustration with charging it recently, I am hesitant in completely recommending it.

I'm a huge advocate for apple's products, but this charger left me disappointed. I didn't drop it or break it, but one day mine just stopped working. Apple products don't just stop working, so shame on Apple for not making a product that's up to par. And, judging by most of the other reviews here, most of the other reviewers seem to be have the same general consensus.

p.s. for the "take care of your stuff" person. Get over yourself. Apple's products are not divine and they do break sometimes. Go nag people who care.

the ipod suffle is really great but the charger is not. i mean its been working out for me for about 5 months now and the charger is not working anymore. after about three moths or so, i had to press down on it for it to work.then it just broke. it wasn't my fault i guess it's not supposed to last that long. i do agree that apple should make a better charger but other than that the ipod shuffle is pretty good.

I just broke my second one. I travel very often and am addicted to my ipod so the dock had to travel with me everywhere and with the vertical pin i broke it again. So if you are going to leave it safely on a neat shelf or desk you'll be fine but otherwise it makes the shuffle so not worth it.

    Broken :(

Mine wasn't stepped on because I didn't clean my room, I didn't leave it in my backback, etc. (someone snidly replied somewhere else about I guess the fact that we are careless people...).

Mine fell off the desk. The prong broke. Guess I should have used duct tape so it wouldn't fall off (I'm assuming the response from the other guy...)

Loved it while it worked. No fixing it after it's broken. I found a cheap "generic" one piece. Love it.

I bought my son the schuffle for x-mas and it worked fine until it needed to be charged the second time. I can not get it to charge or sync any songs.other than that it was a good ipod just very poor on the dock part.

    Argh. Functional but fragile.

It's highly functional, adorable, and incredibly fragile. This is my second broken dock for this Shuffle, meaning that soon I will have spent more money on replacement docks than on the original Shuffle. Grr.

This would work beautifully if it lived in a consistent home, such as permanently attached to a desktop computer or only ever staying on a desk where my laptop lives at home. In the future, I will be doing exactly that. I love the Shuffle because I'm on the go, so I'd gotten in the habit of wrapping the cord and throwing the dock in my backpack's outer pocket so that I could charge it at work if I forgot to charge it at home.

The metal stem on the first one got loose and eventually stopped transmitting power. I figured I must have stepped on it at some point or something, so I got a new one and resolved to be more careful. Less than six months later, the stem (plug?) of the new one snapped in two at the halfway point between the base and the point. Lame.

I'm going to be purchasing the Griffin dock next, as it's cheaper, and it's going to be living on my desk at all times. Less convenient, but less expensive in the long run.

Count me lucky that my dock hasn't broken (yet), but the ipod doesn't dock securely, so twice on my first time charging, then cord was bumped, ipod came undocked, and it shut down my macbook pro.

For such a cheap product, it broke by the way, it is better to just buy a new shuffle than another dock.

Stereo plug broke in luggage. Too expensive

    • Written by from Napa

Recently this dock was broken while in my luggage. I don't know what forces my luggage was subject to, but this was the only thing that suffered any damage.

The design of this dock is poor. The vertical orientation, in combination with flimsy construction, of the stereo plug increases likelihood for breakage.

The price, at a third of the price of the shuffle, is obscene. This part should be around $5. But I have to buy another or my shuffle is worthless. Another Apple gotcha.

I took it with me to California. I kept thinking about the pin breaking while in my bag. Sure enough it was broken when I got there. I had no way to charge it while away from home cause i wasnt going to buy another one away from home so it could happen again. Its perfect if you dont move the dock and only use the shuffle when your close to home. Dont travel with the wire cause it will break.

    disappointed, for the first time

I've been using Apple products for over 10 years. I have their stickers on my car. I am loyal to the brand, and for the first time they've disappointed me. This dock has got to be the most poorly designed thing they've every released. I stepped on my first one, and the metal piece snapped off. That was my fault, no lie. The second one I had just stopped working. I am overseas ATM, so I had nowhere to get real help. I started using my fathers, which he has used only a few times since purchase, and it appears as though this one is giving up the ghost, too. When I put my shuffle into place, the light only turns on when I apply pressure to the top. When I let up, the device ejects itself. This is unacceptable. I hate that this is reducing my usage of my shuffle, as I LOVE it to death, but I could have just bought an entirely new one for less than the cost of new chargers.

I'd like to echo everyone else and ask Apple to make a dockless charger, with a piece at the end of a cable.
