    BIG disappointment

My MacBook was the first Apple product I bought - and I've stuck with them ever since. I love my iMac and other Apple products. BUT I was really disturbed how the battery just died out of nowhere. I've been using PC laptops for years and basically the battery would hold less and less until after a couple years it would give you maybe 10 minutes of time... but not die overnight! BTW, I followed all the syncing directions, everything. I'm kind of debating switching back to PC, at least for laptops. This is nuts.

    Black Macbook Battery

My Macbook has went through literally 4 batteries within 8 months, this is very unprofessional apple. I believe that you should make the old batteries just like the new ones, long life spans, energy sufficient.

Though I don't think there's any suspicious reason for this happening but I too just got back from a 5 week trip to find my battery display saying "not charging" and that i need to replace it. I had also left it fully charged, shut down and untethered (if that's the term everyone is using for "unplugged") There must be a technical explanation for this. My book is; however unhealthy for the battery, almost always on and plugged in and on. It is as with most I've seen this predicament occur with about 3 yrs old.

Macbook batteries die with no notice

How many batteries can I go through? I am buying my 3rd battery in a year. The macbook is great (I use 2), but the batteries leave a lot to be desired. The worst is that each time, the battery life seems to improve, just before it dies.

Technology is only as good as the person using it

I have used a MacBook 13" in my classroom and personally for the last three years. This laptop surpasses any PC piece of junk I have ever had the displeasure of using. This laptop is used daily and I have never had any problems with the battery until now - almost 5 years after it was originally purchased by the school. It just simply won't hold a charge - as to be expected. I know a lot of people OVER-CHARGE their batteries (leave them plugged in for hours/days at a time). This will ultimately 'fry' the battery and limit its' life-span. I look forward to receiving my replacement battery and using it responsibly for the next 5 years. I wouldn't trade this five year old mac book for any brand of PC, even as obsolete as it will become within the next few years. Thanks.

my mac book is now three years old........ how long is the average life expectancy for MAC BOOKs????? I'm hoping quite a bit longer. I am in the process of purchasing the 2nd replacement battery. First one last 13 months - 2nd 22 months. That is obviously an improvement. I have made more of an attempt to let it drain down so it looks like that did help. I guess the $130 every couple of years compensates for not having to deal with viruses, although I must confess that my husband's new PC with Vista has been better for that than his old one.

    Battery Dead After Vacation

After going on a vacation my battery died and was untethered for 1 week. After coming home I plugged the adapter to it and it said "NOT CHARGING" and that it needed to be replaced. I had a macbook for 2 years and never had a problem with the battery before it was stolen. I bought another macbook and had this one for 1 year. I love Apple products. I have a ipod, iphone, macbook. But I find it highly suspicious that this problem occurred to so many people with similar situations.

    Others are insane...

I've had my MacBook for three years and am just now replacing its battery because battery life has slowly tapered off (which is to be expected when one uses his or her computer as heavily as I do). I've left my MacBook untethered for weeks at a time while on vacations, etc. and have NEVER had the problem to which others refer. The only possible explanation I can conjure is that they're insane. Whether their problems are real or imagined I cannot say, but I haven't had a single problem with either battery.

    Poor Battery Quality

39 of 46 people found this useful

I've had a macbook for 18 months now.
The battery that came with my mac was originally dead.
Apple gave me a brand new one at the time.
Yesterday I found out my battery was dead again!!!
Now my macbook is not under warranty and I'll have to pay 129 + taxes for a new battery...
It's a shame that apple makes their great computers with such low quality batteries...
Before becomming a mac user I had never had such problems... (never thought I'd say that...)

    Dead after 6 day vacation.

Upon returning home from a six day vacation I found my MacBook completely unusable without being tethered to the power charger. After poking around the web looking for a solution to the problem I learned that this is a common issue with Apple's MacBook batteries. If a batteries' charge passes below a critical point it cannot be recharged again, but for it to happen on only six days is unacceptable. On a number of occasions I've left my old HP notebook uncharged for over two weeks with no issues.

I now need my 3rd battery and i've only had my laptop for 3 yrs. There is a serious problem with these batteries. Apple hasn't charged me for a new battery thus far, but i'm going in again for another one; I seriously doubt they'd replace it again for nothing. Apple really needs to take a look at these batteries; Recall is a good idea.

My battery just died. I haven't had my macbook for two years, but I will say that it quit charging at a 500 count, so I'd say that isn't so bad. I haven't had any other issues with my mac and I will be happy to buy another battery. For the person that said they haven't seen many PC's with this problem...I have about 5 friends of mine that are buying new batteries for their PC's every 2 or 3 months. I'd willingly buy a new battery every 2 years and have my Macbook than have a PC any day.

    What has Apple become

    • Written by from Alfredton

My wife and I have been advocates of Apple for many years, we just loved the products, their marketing and the look. However over a long discussion recently we came to the conclusion that the quality of the product is really just average.
My macbook battery had died after a little over a year and had to get it replaced only to have it go again. It is now constantly plugged in I might have been better off buying a desktop as this is no way a laptop or portable computer.
The hard drive on my wifes Macbook had died and because it was just out of warranty it will cost a fortune to have it repaired. My brother in-laws macbook has had similar problems with his only his was still in warranty, after three visits to the apple tech, one replacement battery and two hard drives later his finally has had a full year of operating "normally". Numerous other friends have had either hard drive or battery issues with their macbooks. What is going on Apple?
Interestingly is that most Apple people still feel strongly about their computers......let it go people. Buy something that will last.
In a nut shell I think the thing that keeps everyone going is the software and slick applications. It is a great OS but the hardware is just terrible
My wife, after years of owning a Mac has finally gone to the dark side, I will be looking for a new laptop within the next six months and it won't be an Apple.

I have had my black macbook since 2008 and my battery is already dead with a cycle count of 300. Im sorry to say this but I dont see very many pc batteries having this problem. I have to keep my mac plugged in or it will shut off completly. I agree that apple should have a recall on this battery and replace everyones batteries free of charge.

Have had my MacBook for 1.5 years cycle count on the original battery is 962 as of now.
The battery is great on this mac. I still have around 3 hrs of internet browsing before I need to plug in. I tried to discharge the battery to less then 10 minutes remaining anytime I used it without A/C power which is about 95% of the time.

i think this battery is useless and the battery i have is useless because i have only had my laptop for a year and the battery dies in like 1 hour and it says in the manual that it is suppose to last like 5 hours and i get really mad every time i go somewhere because i need to like have my charger plugged into the laptop for the battery not to die.

So i think that these batteries are stupid very much and i wish that the batteries were like the new macbook pro when it lasts 8 hours.

its not Apple's fault for the faulty battery.

    • Written by from Elkhorn

MAC DOES NOT MANUFACTURE THE CELLS THAT GO IN THESE BATTERIES. Therefore, it is not their fault if you have a faulty battery. There was a time when Mac had a batch of faulty batteries that were sold, but since there is apple care, they have to replace it for free. If they didn't, or you didn't check with them, you obviously did something wrong. I would go with this battery over my toshiba's battery. My Toshiba has a BRAND NEW battery, and this Mac battery last twice as long and is a year older. Just gives you a bit to think about i guess.

Poor battery, poor customer service all at a premium price!

    • Written by from Irvine

My battery reported "Not Charging" suddenly one day with no prior signs of trouble. The battery reports 165 charge cycles. The warranty is apparently for 1 year or 300 charge cycles, whichever comes first.

At that point, I remarked that I suppose I'm lucky that I didn't purchase a newer Mac with the built in, non user replaceable batteries, "oh, well those are designed to last twice as long." Fantastic. Mine didn't even last half the charge cycles it was rated for. $129 later, I have a new batter. Hopefully this one is better than the first.

After paying a steep premium for a product, I expect the company to stand behind it. First and last Mac computer.
