    Last resort product

This battery should be a last resort solution to your laptop. It has an average usage time of 3 hours and drains quickly, regardless of what programs you are running. Not worth the price.

I bought my Macbook 3 years ago and the battery has only just now started to lose it's charge rather quickly. I would recommend this to friends, in fact I have!

The original 3 year old battery on my black macbook still holds a great charge. Last flight I watched two full length movies and then looked at iPhoto pic's before the battery was drained. Once you go black, you never go back.

My first battery went out the first month that I had the laptop.
My second battery went out within the next year. I was told at the genius bar that I had a lot of "full charges" on the battery life. I was very confused since my iBook - which is several years older than this macbook - still holds a charge! I tried telling them that it just didn't sound accurate, and I must have some electrical issue as my charger gets really hot. No help.

I went back with a friend who was buying an iPod. It came up in conversation with the sales person who swapped out a new battery for me for free. :D (Thumbs up to that one!)

With the third battery, I decided to be careful and only use battery power when absolutely necessary. I actually even went weeks without using my laptop at all on occasions as I spent a lot of time on my work computer. Third battery down after a year and a half. BOOO! What a waste! NOT HAPPY!

Apple Macbook Black 2008 and Battery

I am displeased with my purchase of a Apple computer and could not recommend it to a single soul. Within 6 month of purchase the original hard drive had a SMART status failure. Since then i have had at least 4 other hard drives. I called apple support many times, yet there is no record of that. The original battery has around 550 cycles on it, but it has been bulged out since around the time of the first hard drive failure. SO much so that the PC rocks when you type on it, and that the plastic is peeling off the battery. Many others have cited numerous hard drive failures and battery issues, yet apple says it must be my fault? I got this for the supposed quality and support which prove to be either elusive or non existent. It sets on a Desk all day, its shut off when moved and handled with care. I have a Hitachi Laptop that is a all original 386 from 95 or so that still runs after being dropped numerous times, yet a two year old 1499$ laptop cant even work on a desk. I am not pleased

    Battery dead in 4 months

I have MacBook 3 years old, first battery hold for 2 years, then it died. I replaced it with new battery and it died in 4 months. I will not purchase battery every 4 month for $130. Now, my keyboard does not work properly. As much as Apple is popular, I will look for other brands of computer next time I am purchasing one.

Apple products are best, but apple batteries are poor. Apple should do something to rectify this problem.

Battery dead after 62 cycles / 15 months - Apple won't replace it

Bought my black MacBook in late 2006. Original battery was swollen and got replaced for free - under a recall, apparently - in June 2009. Had it shutdown and left for 16 days. Upon my return, the battery was dead. If it's an isolated situation, I would understand, but reading the reviews it's clear that these batteries are poor quality. My CAD 450 HP laptop was down for the same 2+ weeks, and its battery is still running strong. New battery costed me CAD 179.67. Ironically, 3 poor quality MacBook batteries can buy a new PC laptop with better battery life, with change left to spare.

My original battery that came with the macbook (late 2006) just now died on me. It went for 1,089 cycles, and the manufacturer's warranty is 300. Not too shabby!! Even up to the point where it no longer held a charge, it still would last a few hours which is excellent after 4 years of tough use.

Don't leave your Macbook unplugged in sleep mode for too long

...or you'll be buying a new battery. Seriously, it will kill your battery if you're gone for more than a few days and it runs dead. Mine was fine until I went away for ten days with my unplugged computer on sleep mode, and now it's shot. Forums out there have others complaining about the same issue. This is the Achilles heel of the Macbook!

Applecare doesn't know anytning about battery-life

My battery died overnight and because it exceeded the 300-cycle count. They claim that it is "consumed" and not defective. The applecare guy said that if it died with 299 cycles, it is a manufacture's defect but if it dies at 300 cycles, it is consumed. Now if I properly power cycle my battery, say every other day. That means I'm supposed to buy a new battery almost every year... Really? Then he had to balls to say, "I know people that buy battery's every year." What an a-hole. Never buying one of these again. Of course, by the way, none of this info is public according to him, and to top it off, they (spoke to 2 different techs) can't even agree on what constitutes a power cycle.

4 years and still going strong!

I've had my MacBook for almost 4 years now. My battery is at 871 cycles, and is still in good condition! I've noticed just in the past couple of months that it's not lasting as long as usual, but it's nothing significant. I might get another one just to have on hand if that increases, but otherwise, I'm happy as can be!

    Normal but Expanding

    • Written by from Los Angeles

37 of 46 people found this useful

I have a MacBook (Black) that's just over 2 years old. I hava no problem with my battery life. 498 cycles so far and still holding a good charge. The battery however is expanding. The genius bar told me I need a new battery, but why throw away an otherwise good battery. It's not good for the environment or the wallet.
The expanding battery presses up against the logic board, the keyboard and trackpad; rendering them unusable. the curser jumps around, highlights text and erases everything you have input.
Instead of taking Apple's advice and replacing the battery, I just use a piece of clear shipping tape to hold the battery in instead of locking it in. It's lame, but it's good for the environment and The battery works perfectly. I still get 2-4 hours on a charge.
This is a defect in manufacturing. BTW Sys Profiler gives the battery a Condition: "Normal". The genius bar says it's dead.

I've had my computer since 2006 and am just needing a new battery. I've gotten over 850 cycles out of it, so I'm please with that, as they are only meant to survive 300 cycles. If you always leave your Macbook plugged in when the battery is at 100%, you're going to run into problems a lot sooner. If you've got your laptop on a desk, its easy to pop the battery out, and leave it running on power from the cord. This will save the life of the battery for when you actually need it. Mine did just die out of nowhere, but it's better than a PC battery which has less than 2 hours of battery life straight out of the box.
